To most of us, Jaya One is no longer a place which is a stranger to us, which is currently now hosting a lot of restaurant, café’s and Bar in that building itself. If you do not know what to eat or having headache on variety, take a stroll around the area that you can find variety of food range available.

One of the latest editions into the family is The Bee which just started their operation about 3 weeks and the crowds already start to love this place.

[close down on Jan 2014]

Bee

Most of us do watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S as they usually hang out in a café, but what I feel The Bee has is that similar kind of concept which is a perfect place gathering place for friends and colleague.

Bee (2)

I love their interior that really portray classic style café that I have went when I was at Melbourne, build up with red brick design and coffee counter with cake display fridge and a mini menu of food to choose from.

Bee (3)

A mini bar table type area with wifi and plug available for your online convenience.

Bee (4)

One thing that I love about their concept is that this cake display fridge is that they are going to feature most of our local bakers to sell in this fridge as part to promote local baker talent.

Bee (5)

They have not really launch the place yet and this is their only temporary menu.

Bee (6)

With currently limited choices to choose from but will be more starting from June.

Bee (7)

‘Dukkah Prawn Salad’ RM16

If you love salad for lunch or dinner, then I would say you will surely fall in love with their salad range. Fresh salad that dress with their very own, homemade salad dressing, top with fresh grilled prawns is something I enjoy.

Bee (8)

If you want more healthy or diet meal, then ‘Roasted Pumpkin Couscous Salad’ would be the preffered choice also caught my attention more, RM18 comes with fresh softly baked pumpkin with their own seasoning to enhance the flavor up and sprinkle with the white crumbs(which I forgot the word), and I just can finish this alone. –Recommended~

Bee (9)

One of their in house specialties ‘The Bee Burger’

Bee (13)

With their very own handmade beef patties which is certainly well mince, grill till its soft and juicy then baked with a layer melted cheese on top of it and its nice! – Recommended~

Bee (10)

‘Huevos Rancheros’ wrap with egg, bacon, melted cheeze, sauces, then perfectly toast till the skin is crispy and solid yet not burn with bacon is very aromatic, and so far it is the best I had. – Recommended~

Bee (11)

‘Ebi Fry Burger’ is something unique that I came across.

Bee (12)

Deep fried Ebi which the prawn is solid and fried perfectly add in with their own salad dressing to make it juicy, worth a try.

Bee (16)

‘Chicken Avocado Burger’ with chicken grilled to perfection coated with cheeze.

Opening Promo – ALL burger and drink for RM15 (which is certainly a great bargain)

Bee (14)

‘Deep Fried Ebi’ is something have not include in the current menu that would be added in their new menu very soon. The unique is the sauce that by dipping in it, our tongue get to taste sour yet sweet and spicy and its good till we dip it the whole sauce dry.

Bee (17)

‘Churros’ is something that I tried at Victoria market and not many people enjoy this desert which is very new in Malaysia, as I love to have mine, cripy on the outer layer and very soft in the middle then sprinkle with with cinnamon sugar is good~

I love this place and certainly, to all those who love burgers, go after their burger range which I felt very delectable as the catch is they have hired one of a very famous young lady chef from Australia to prepare the café’s menu and train their chef, thanks for hosting us that night.

Awww, sometimes I do wonder how long will it takes me to get there to earn that kind of money to let me spend on what I want, as in not to be super rich, but just nice. Sometimes I sure do wish that if I do not get to travel overseas or locally I do have that kind of feeling I want myself to be pampered in a 5 star hotel. A night or 2 would be great. Till then, is one of my wish and also working my ass towards there.

We were here for a food review session and of course like one of our foodie VIP is down to this event too, CK which is famous in the up north and she bring me and Coco up to this Exclusive Residence Longue for refreshment and show us around with Keegen being a very nice guy to tour us around. This longue is located on the 26th floor of the hotel to host guest that stay in an exclusive room.

H

H (2)

I sure do not mind to spend my whole day here, lazy’ing around, enjoying the view, blog and online to utilise their free online services, bringing my whole group of friends to chill together

H (3)

This would be my most preferred area that makes me think of that Heineken advertisement having the whole fridge by myself, which is all foc.

H (4)

If you are a fan of mocktail or cocktail, they do have a mini bar upon per your request the person in charge of that day will hand made one for you, besides that you also can enjoy the finger food that prepared upon.

H (5)

Then Keegan is one of the managers there that introduce us his specialty in making cocktails. He introduce us ‘Lime Margarita’ for CK which she enjoys it a lot, not very strong in alcohol flavor that did not overpower the taste of the lime, what we would say is just perfect taste for her. The salt that sprinkle around the glass edge is good, that the after taste that left in our tongue is still salt taste.

H (6)

Then I got myself ‘Long Island Tea’ which he did it mild for us as I had empty stomach and my stomach was growling. It’s a mixture of 5 alcohol that he mention to us and I find it very good as the way I like it, doest taste strong alcohol in it but take 2 or 3 glass is enough to kill us off, taste mild that did not over power the tea taste but the amount of alcohol added in, I would say is strong. Don play play~

H (7)

Then Coco had ‘Cappucino’ as she is not feeling well, with honey as the spoon to stir in it. She just love her cup of coffee.

H (8)

Then we get a peek into CK’s room, if I were given a chance, I wouldn’t mind to camp there for 1 week. Every day wake up got breakfast, with big and specious bath room and a great study table area for me to do my stuff.

H (9)

Then we head down to Serena Brasserie for the Mexican food buffett with CK and me.

H (10)

A modern and spacious interior setting with light with dim lights to set on the environment is a great way we can enjoy our food.

H (11)

Most of the time when I drive around, my eyes seems to be like very kaypo, will scout around what is around the area. One is for me to remember it so in the future if I need to go to that area I know what I can tell people or I can go there easily. Second would be hunting for food to eat and this restaurant had always caught my attention when I always travel back from 1-U area back to KL as its well lit up at night and with its dim classic look, and told myself it’s a place must hunt and try.

Not until recently, I got a called from my friend Ee Lune, invite me to help her photo shoot for that restaurant, hopefully the owner accept it. At first I do not know what restaurant is that not until I got the information about, Google it and get all excited when know its that restaurant.

Castell

Castell (2)

Castell (3)

I love their restaurant setting with a bit old English style setting lit with orangey dim light that is very relaxing. A cup of beer in this restaurant is a must that I did not miss. Besides this area, on the upstairs they have a pool table and a mini bar perfect for those who love to watch soccer.

Castell (9)

The first serving of the day is ‘Mixed Grill’ which was serve in a huge plate and its full of ingredients, comes with sausage, lamb, beef, grill chicken and prawns. Its hard to shoot at first by takes me a while to find the right angle and this is the shot.

With its generous serving and comes with the price sure is no complain about it. Well prepared and it the best is the lamb, grill perfectly soft and tender and dip with the thick mint sauce is good.

Castell (10)

RM39

Castell (4)

Next is my choice of the day, ‘Stilton Special’ which is marinated in special sauce and grill it to perfection on medium as I prefer it topped with beef bacon and blue stilton cheese. The meat is so tender and juicy yet once cut it the juice flow out and wet the whole plate. Cut it into small slices spread the cheese on top and with another small cut of bacon eat together is top notch. If I have a glass of red wine, it would make me fly!

Highly recommended!

Castell (11)

Castell (6)

Castell (7)

One of the signature dish in the restaurant is this huge big bone and meat ‘US Prime Rib’ served with steam potato with mince meat, corn and fresh salad. It is a huge bone with a huge slab of meat. Deeply marinated and grill on well control griller makes the meat juicy and tender, dip with their home made special sauce, I just would not mind to have this whole plate by myself.

Castell (12)

To end the great meal must come with a desert, ‘Coffee Hot Fudge’ RM12.90

Castell (13)

Castell (14)

‘Hazelnut Friands’ RM8.90
After the whole shooting, I get to taste on the dish that they have prepared. Certainly the dish here is top-quality and I do not mind to come here again for second round becauseeeeeeee they have:

Happy Hour 3pm-8pm

Tiger BeerRM9 (per glass), RM30 (per Jug)
Guinness draftRM20 (1 pint), RM50 (3 pint)

The restaurant is overshadowing by the overhead bridge in front of it. Therefore not many people do drop by and currently its they have a new owner.

Penang being a wonderful place for food hunting especially on hawker and street food but Sticks Fire Bistro is one of the latest edition into Penang food paradise. Being in town for so many days I grab the opportunity to visit this place with my best friend as we were out of idea what to eat around Queensbay.

When we reach there, my friend got totally excited over the newly build up place and I was quite impress with it too. A stand alone Bistro.

A very catchy and nice environment they have.

Filled with a bar that serves cocktail, mock tail, beers and liquor.

The restaurant remains open concept which is quite a nice choice that I have seen one in Klang area. This place surely have the kick for it.

If you feel that outdoor is hot for you, then they do have indoor too. Cozy mosaic floor with nicely lit lights in it.

I have always like to sit some where higher like a mini bar bench area. This would be a great place to be.

The restaurant also practise open concept kitchen.
For the very first time, we were quite surprise to see what they have to offer in the menu, not many choices but felt that the price is right with the environment they build up and comes the friendly waitress that start to take up our order and ask what is nice in the menu, and recommended all those in chili sign is the chef recommended which I also can see that.
Then this name caught my attention to order it ‘Tamarind with Longan-Iced’ RM3.90 and honestly I do not know how to enjoy this drink, sour with longan sweet that I felt do not go along very well yet with a few pieces of ice cubes is not chill enough, requested extra ice cubes to make it more chilled.
My best friend ordered ‘Spicy Waikiki Sardine’ and with the spiciness level is there yet there is nothing much to boost about yet this is a chef recommendation. We felt its way very plain just like spaghetti and added on can sardine with own spice.. RM13.80

Then the food start to turn’s ugly with this serving of ‘Traditional Meat & Mash Potato’ that this mash potato was serve to us cold. I was a little bit shock at first and thought it was suppose to be like that and after eat the base also cold I ask the waiter to help me ask on it. They took it away and help me reheat on it. After came back the base in it is a lil warm yet can still taste some coldness in certain part and I did not mind. As I ate half of the pie and I am getting more frustrated as I did not eat any meat pieces or chunks in the pie with its written meat in it and ask my friend to help me try out and also agree that its more like vegetable pie instead of meat pie. FINE!
When my portion was served, I really got a surprise that ‘Tender Lamb Cubes with Pine’ is totally out of my expectation, what the hell, its still cubes but on sticks more like satay Kebab with such a small portion and plain yet the best part is my LAMB CUBES IS COLD. Again another dish is served cold. Requested the waiter to help me change and they change a brand new stick for me.
Guess what, my second stick of lamb is full of veins and its hard to bite or chew. I never careless about it any more with such food quality yet with the dipping sauce added on it taste not bad but RM19.80 I would say its very expensive for the portion and quality.

While I am walking around to take pictures, this guy request me to take picture for him. They are seriously nice guys as I get to know the first guy in light blue shirt is the manager for TGI Fridays in Queensbay mall which was introduce to me moments ago.
Till while we were waiting for our bill and one of the floor lady manager came to us and ask us how is the food and services. As I told her, the service is good and the food is way below average for the price we are paying and complain bout the lamb too. Guess what is her response…. and what she said I would say she is killing the business:
” I know that our Lamb got veins and the quality is not there, when we went for the food review on the supplier, the lamb was the best even better than the Beef that is why we choose the lamb but when the supplier send us the stock, it was not as what we have tried. You know ah, if a supplier send this kind of quality to us ah..how are we going to use back them, not sincere at all and on my hand I got handful list of supplier, not this supplier I can find another better supplier.”

When I heard this, what am I suppose to say yet came to a conclusion that, you did the same thing, pushing all those bad lamb with veins for us to eat and isint that this is the way you killing your business? What a good explanation you have yet no discount was given, or replacement and just agree with my statement and added yours. Its truly disappointing for food experience that I have to go grab a ramlee burger to eat after that as the portion was small and I still felt hungry after that. I guess I was one of the unlucky customer that had a bad experience on their food serving but service was good.

I just would want to say that, if you would want to try out the food, just give them 1 more month to get organise their kitchen and food quality. Since the day I am visiting was last weekend which is their only first few days of operating but I cannot deny more that, the restaurant is sure a great place to drink in Penang. Hopefully they will improve during my next visit which I think they derserve a second chance.
