It had been quite a long time since I last step into Pasar Malam (night market) which it had been quite a often outing with my friends during college time. Since then, had rarely been to it not until last week that got a called from my friend asking wanted to go night market which is located at OUG. This is my first time visiting night market in this area and I am quite excited to see what food range they have to offer and operating here on every Thursday starts at 6pm.

Night market in Malaysia do not have a fixed location that operate like Taiwan, if you are looking forward to go night market in Malaysia, it is advice for you to check it out which day and location. The location can spread out over Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Oug

Usually my friends and me will take out some money, one person will hold it as the banker who is in charge of paying all the food and will share by all of us. On that day the place is not that packed as I expected and not that big compare to other night market.

Oug (2)

Besides food, of course they are stalls like selling clothes, some basic utilities, and others.

Oug (3)

When I saw this stall selling this Taiwan Mask a box for RM8 I nearly vomit blood with the pricing here, as I bought 3 box for RM50 at Taiwan and here is RM8 per box that makes me wonder is it fake?

Oug (4)

My hunting begins with this first stall ‘Papa Lai Fried Chicken’ that many people are waiting for it and thought it would be nice.

Oug (5)

Pricing as above. . . . .

Oug (6)

It sure do look like normal fried chicken and the taste is normal, nothing much to brag about, one of the reason being so long queuing is that they need to fried the chicken and a person buying one piece of it, whole group lining up.

Oug (7)

‘Otak-Otak Muar’ is next with promotion of buy 10 free 1 at RM 7.

Oug (8)

Oug (10)

I ate it while its hot and I have just eaten better ones.

Oug (9)

Ice cream that sell in front of the Otak-Otak.

Oug (25)

Among so many food stall that I have came across, this stall is the busiest among all with 3 old lady constantly doing take away for big crowds and this guy is busy frying mini prawn crackers.

Oug (11)

This is one of his signature of the stall, mini prawn cracker.

Oug (12)

Oug (13)

‘Prawn Crackers’

Oug (26)

all the fried dish.

Oug (27)

pricing as above.

Oug (15)

This stall with the word ‘Thai Roast Pork’ surely caught our attention.

Oug (16)

and its ‘Satay Style’ turns out to be not bad if you add on the chili by the side.

Oug (17)

It is purely pork and available with pig spare part.

Oug (18)

Next is this stall caught my attention the most. I pan cake had been one of my favourite but then I have never come across with CEREAL version.

Oug (19)

It is operate by a young lad and with his creativeness and health conscious, he created this version.

Oug (20)

First add on a pack of cereal. . .

Oug (21)

Then add on with the pre mix ingredient and let it harden a bit to add on the peanut and sugar.

Oug (22)

After it is cook nicely, with the skin is thick on the outside and had to cool down before cutting it.

Oug (23)

If you are sick or looking for some healthy option, then you can give this a try as the taste is quite bland but surely its healthy. RM1.30

Oug (28)

‘Fried Kuih Kak’

Oug (29)

Love to  have mine with more bean sprout and add on spicy but on that day according to my friend, the uncle fried it till quite  wet that turns out not so good which usually is quite dry, with wok hei.

Oug (30)

When I was a kid, I love to eat those uncle that ride motorcycle that sells home made ice cream and it has been quite a while I am looking for this ice-cream. Poo’s Ice Cream which is operate by one old uncle that do those home made ice-cream that I had missed.

Oug (31)

The flavour of that day was Cendul and it is good, smooth, not that sweet and thick in flavour. RM1

Oug (32)

When I first walk through this ‘Nasi Lemak’ the amount of ingredient that left there was still a lot and after 40 minutes walk back, it is nearly sold out. Then we decided to try a pack. The rice is fragrant with coconut milk and pandan flavor and the best part is add in their own dry sambal udang to add the extra kick in it.

I feel that this night market is quite small and not many food or stalls available, so far I still prefer the one at Cheras-Leisure Mall or SS2 but after this food outing, I have decided to hunt for other night market too, especially on Wednesday at Cheras which is one of the biggest.

On our first night, arriving at Taiwan, it was all about eating and walking around as we head to business district to meet up with Pak’s friend that had arrange way before and booked a lovely Malat Buffet Steamboat restaurant (Man Tang Hong, 滿堂紅) for us, and surely they had made the right decision for us as we starve ourselves all the way from Malaysia to Taiwan just to eat their local food.

After 10 -15 minutes walk from the station that we disembark, here we are, in front of the restaurant with many people waiting around the restaurant.

restaurant 1

restaurant 1 (3)

When I walk up the stairs and the first thing that is was some young chef slicing those juicy and fresh meat and roll it into mini rolls and told my friend this is a must have section.

restaurant 1 (4)

Their interior build up is quite simple like our locals just that it looks nicer with wooden floor and hard plastic material that build around to build up some sections and the place are quite narrow and pack.

restaurant 1 (6)

This is where Pak introduce two of his best friends to all of us from left Eva and Tina.

restaurant 1 (5)

Once we were seated down, in the little menu, there are varieties of soup base to choose from, one of it that will not miss is their ‘Ma-lat Soup’ and ‘Sour Salted Vegetable Soup’.

restaurant 1 (7)

During the food ordering, of course we leave it to the experts to order and our responsible is to EAT! Drinks is free flow, with all the soft drinks Coke, Sprite and some of their local brands available in  glass bottle that store in two big fridge.

restaurant 1 (8)

One of their local food that you would want to try is the black stick (its in chinese do not know what it is called in english) that is made of something like our local muar chi add in with alot of black sesame. Taste weird at first but after the whole stick, turns out to be not bad, soft and filled with sesame taste.

restaurant 1 (9)

Item that must order which is their very own ‘Homemade Fish Paste’ by using bamboo and you can put into the soup according the size and shape you want.

restaurant 1 (10)

Comes to the meat section that had been perfectly thin slice by machine to make it instantly cook by a few dip in the hot soup are : ‘Beef Slices’

restaurant 1 (11)

‘Pork and Lamb Slices’

restaurant 1 (12)

This is what I mean, a whole thin slice of lamb, and flat it on top of the soup base and use your chopstick stir it for a while(less than 30 secs) then bring it out.

restaurant 1 (13)

This is how it must be done to ensure it is soft and not too hard. Lamb and beef definately is my choice in this range.

restaurant 1 (14)

After start off with meat section then we add in everything into the soup, while it takes time to cook, the clear soup base turns out to be quite bland in taste only manage to taste on a bit clear sour flavor but if you love something spicy or especially during winter and you want to enjoy a bit of sweat then ‘Malak’ is certainly the choice you must not miss. Spicy at 60% level where it is still edible not a few bites then you blow out flames, sour and to me its challenging to eat with the meat and ingredient but that was my main target for the whole night. Thumbs up!

restaurant 1 (15)

This is the homemade fish paste that we order again (as I do not like fish ball or paste, this turns out to be good).

restaurant 1 (21)

Lining up for sauces and revealing to us some secrets.

restaurant 1 (2)

Eating steamboat would not be perfect if you miss out the sauces. They have at least more than 15 sauces for you to go after.

restaurant 1 (16)

Then Eva and Tina show us their secret recipe of the sauces that they discover.

restaurant 1 (17)

The secret mixture of this are, peanut powder, chopped green onions, finely chopped and season garlic, a bit of chili powder, chopped chili, ONLY egg yolk and soy sauce. Result: hint of 4 flavors to enhance our taste bud and its superbly good!

restaurant 1 (18)

The packed of monkey that Eva is holding is actually a Packed of Maggie mee very cute of the packing and surely it taste like uncooked Mamee that we used to eat.

restaurant 1 (19)

During the dinner while waiting we camwhore abit and as for Eva it was funny and cute to see her talk for the first time as she just went to see dentist before meeting us.

restaurant 1 (20)

restaurant 1 (22)

It was fun to have them around as it makes the whole dinner merrier.

restaurant 1 (23)

Then after that I wasy busy eating . . .

restaurant 1 (24)

and we have around 15 pax for that night.

restaurant 1 (26)

restaurant 1 (27)

If you guys feel that the buffet is too heavy for you and would like to take something sweet by sitting there accompany your friend, for girls and guys that love ice-cream you will definitely be in heaven with the available selection as many as 12 flavors Hagen-Das.

restaurant 1 (28)

restaurant 1 (29)

First round of food was so satisfying, with great food and value that the dinner was only at NT550 = RM55 per pax, that  valid for 2 hours session, with fresh ingredient and also with great companion for a start.

If you are looking something to start off with some damage on your stomach, then this is the place worth to try. It is advise to make a booking before you go.
