I have heard alot about this new cafe Norm Micro Roastery in Penang. Been one of the buzz since after 2020 MCO last year. Since now I manage to go back, decided to pay a visit to this new brunch cafe in Penang. As This is also associated to their two other entity Norm Cafe and also Noct (pretty well known for their cocktails in Penang standard)

Parking here could be an ass as either you walk far or you pay your fee inside the parking of the new Prestige hotel. I park at open space carpark at Sri Weld Food Court Carpark and walk over. about 3 minutes walk. worth it as better than I get a ticket or got my car tow away.

best cafe in penang

Love the ambiance for Norm Micro Roastery as it certainly do have the Australian industrial factory vibe. High ceiling and best of all it is not hot in here. I am impress with the generator in here.

weld quey

Raw wall and natural lighting from the top shining thru the roof indeed will be a perfect instragram cafe in Penang.

Norm Micro Roastery menu

Norm Micro Roastery menu is pretty straight forward and I am here for their coffee as for Penang standard I think they are quite there. (Please we cant compare to KL ones.)

norm cafe

Had hot latte @ RM 13 and Ice Long Black @ RM 9. Long black is the acidic version not really to my liking. Their late is not too bad as the milk is just nice yet not too overpowering or milk to cover the coffee.

latte

Love their Mocha @ RM 13 .Thick enough with well balance of flavor.

pastries in penang

Pastries and desserts are base of the availability of the day. Among the 3 was told all of them was like “meh” again I did not try this but base on my sister’s friend that order them.

banana cake

Prawn and Pumpkin Risotto

This is their signature item. Prawn and Pumpkin Risotto @ RM 32. Stock use was perfect and cook to perfection. Moist enough yet it is not dry. Clams used were fresh and it had a good balace of flavour.

best spaghetti in penang

Was told that the Spaghetti Bolognese is the other guy’s favorite. He will try to order this whenever he is here.

chicken burger

Chicken Karage Burger @ RM 25. Very generous piece of Chicken karage. I mean it is really huge. For girls, I would advise you to share. Chicken karage nicely fry up. Slight crips outside and with a multi tower fresh fried wedges. brunch in penangI guess if you are looking for a best cafe in Penang? I guess this might be one of them to try out and perhaps to put into your list then. I certainly do not mind to come back here for their coffee and food again next round.

If you remember that Norm Cafe did make a huge buzz in Penang last year for their 2in1 concept. Cafe in the morning, bar at night. Then I was introduce by my friend to visit Norm that is famous for their waffle and located in different location at Lebuh Carnarvon. It did not ring a bell till I reach the location and find it weird, that it has similarities to the one I visited a year ago.

Until I walk in, the ambiance and lighting do resemblance the NORM at The Saw Emporium. Then only found out from the barista that they have relocate to this new location. Still as small as it is, with only a few table on the premises and if you come here with a big group of friends which are 4 and above, you will have a problem for seating arrangement.

Still the same, as they have their cocktail and tea corner.

this is what the cafe is famous for. Their cocktail and also their signature waffle. If were to compare to last year, the waffle had much improve. Currently it is slightly puffier, crispy and bake to perfection. Indeed a pretty good waffle and best of all, mine is rum and raisin @ RM 22. Top with nice ice cream and rum raisins on the side is a good pairing. Best of all, I pair with their cocktail.

A small little cafe tug in this dead end street. Parking is super expensive for Penang as it is RM 7 (maybe due to Chinese New Year)

A great place for waffle and cocktail. Believe coming in the afternoon will get to shoot nice pictures. Great ambiance to chill and hangout. Love my spot which is just right beside to the main wooden door. Also, could this place be offering the Best waffle in Penang?

Norm Cafe at The Saw Emporium is one of the latest addition cafe into the area. This place used to be a steel factory and the owner have converted the whole area into a new hipster join since end of last year 2017. Since then, the place had slowly gain its popularity among locals and outstation travelers.

Norm Cafe (1)

If you do see some hype for this cafe is that, a cafe in the day and a bar or cocktail bar at night. At night, this bar is hit on with blue neon and pink light which marks them a total transformation of ambiance that played with lighting.

Norm Cafe (2)

As it was during Chinese New Year and this place had recently just open its door and lack of staff, it had been quite a chaotic operational moment for them. All friends and family were out to assist in serving and preparing.

Norm Cafe (6)

Besides specialty coffee, they do have specialty too. Slow and proper preparation to ensure the right temperature to bring out the aroma of tea is essential in this process.

Norm Cafe (7)

Norm Cafe (8)

Cafe Latte which is not too bad too. Slighty acidic but not too strong and more towards arabica coffee beans.

Norm Cafe (9)

Norm Cafe (10)

One of the main signature here is also their waffle – Citrus Orange @ RM 20. Soft of like Penang version of the Owl Cafe in KL.

Norm Cafe (11)

As they are rather new in that period of operation, I think it is not too bad for such gimmick that filled with earl grey ice cream, Grapefruit, dehydrated orange (which is more for decoration purpose rather eating) and passionfruit.

Norm Cafe (12)

Norm Cafe (13)

It is not too bad for waffle and maybe after 6 months operational, worth to give it another try.

If you hungry, can always opt to head to Gurney Drive hawker center or check out the top 16 night spot in Penang.
