I get to know KL Live as a place to hang out for events with their huge club space on second floor. As the place now had went over major renovation and currently host a few F&B outlets that is quite promising. One of the outlet is Dirty Nelly that serve nice Non-Halal Meal, that is quite well known over their Damansara branch. I guess, by opening at this place is good news for KL people or those who work nearby.

Dirty nelly (1)

I got curious about their name and ask how did they actually come out with the name itself and here is how the story goes:

Over a hundred years ago, a middle aged farmer and his faithful pig, Dirty Nelly lived in a small village in Northern England which was engirdled and secluded, for the most part untrodden as yet by tourist or landscape painter. It was a fact known to all that Miss Nelly was the oldest in the land, even the border Reiver clans of Southern Scotland had no doubt on the subject.

One unfortunate day, the village was cursed with famine. The crops were dying and the villagers were starving. Having nothing to eat himself, the farmer stood before Dirty Nelly, and contemplated. Finally, he made up his mind to sacrifice Dirty Nelly for the sake of the people. It was a relief to the others for Dirty Nelly was so large that she fed the village for an entire week which regained the villager’s morale and uplifted their spirits.

Yet, at this new age, few understood and still fewer knew this but with that, that little village went on to prosper… [Sourse from: Dirty Nelly website]

I have read alot bloggers or my friend mention that we should go to Balik Pulau for laksa. I cannot even remember when was the last time I head there for meals. All I know that Balik Pulau Best Laksa do have cheap meals which is like 30-40% cheaper than normal hawker food available in Penang, there is certainly one of the destination to head for.

It was until few weeks ago, decided to head there again to visit the small little town located at another side of Penang.

laksa (1)

When we reach,I just got to know that the market is under upgrading work and the laksa stall have move to the corner kopitiam which purely sell only laksa that located right at the T-junction if you are coming from Paya Terubong direction.

laksa (2)

Looking at their stalls, with some advertisement, they had been feature food guide and newspaper.

laksa (3)

Like any other laksa, the stalls is fill with lots of noodle, and other ingredient to be added in.

laksa (4)

Its hard for you to find table in the shop, as there are many people that purposely came by for this Laksa only.

laksa (5)

One of the signature drink you must try in this coffee shop is that ‘Fresh Nutmeg Juice with Asam’. I used to hate anything related to nutmeg as I dislike the smell and taste of it. Slowly I learn to drink and overcome hate of this drink.

Well, this drink is very refreshing, fresh and its pure whereby I think they used at least 3-4 nutmeg to blend in it. It was a hot day and this drink was a thirst quencher, that this drink is also good for health. I had 2 cups anyway. . 🙂 Recommended!

You can do take away for the fresh nutmeg juice, which is very pure blended and need to be add on with some water. cost RM4 & RM 8 if not mistaken.

laksa (6)

In this stall we order 2 version of its laksa, One is ‘Siam Laksa’ which is a bit more creamy or lemak as they added in coconut milk into it and I one of the catch in this the noodle, which is soooo smooth and a bit chewy.

laksa (7)

Next is the normal ‘Asam Laksa’ that I like about it is, the fish are smash into very tiny pieces then every mouth you drink on the soup, you sip along with the fish. I prefer this version rather than clear soup with big piece of fish added on top.

Among those 2… I prefer Siam  Laksa as not many places can cook very nice siam laksa, as the normal laksa, I had better ones. For me, I would recommend their Siam Laksa if you do come so far. . .

More details of the shop and history you can read in this blog: mywisewife.com

Next heading to d’Italiane Kitchen (click here)

Being a guy from Penang, truly I have not really discover much about Penang food until CK bring the rest of us to a few places and indeed only understand that actually Penang has a lot of good food to offer. The first stop of my last holiday was to Beach Street whereby I used to pass here most of the time and did not even realize that, this small coffee shop has great food to offer that just located directly infront of the fire station.

Kam Ah

The shop start their business quite early and while we were there was already around 11something an it was full house but our luck was there on that day, manage to spot a very last table in that shop.

Kam Ah (2)

What was highly recommended by CK was this particular ‘Nutmeg Drink’ which is the signature drink of the shop. The drink was blended nutmeg purely added with asam boi and water added up the whole cup. I cant really take the flavor of nutmeg because of the taste but in this coffee shop, I just drank 2 glass. Very refreshing and thirst quencher that suits the hot weather in this area. RM 2.50

Kam Ah (3)

While I was seated down, and I notice this beef noodle seriously enjoying brisk business, non stop the customer pouring in, dining in and ta pauz.

Kam Ah (4)

You will never see a hawker owner which cooks till so happy yet passionate on what they do every day yet very friendly to their customer.

Kam Ah (5)

Here am I enjoying my well prepared beef noodle for my breakfast.

Kam Ah (6)

The taste of the soup base is quite mild yet suiting to most people who dislike strong flavor but I just love my bowl that filled with soft koey teow noodle and mee yet with most of the beef spare parts (tender beef slice, softly braised cow stomach and beef balls) RM 7 for a small bowl which is enough for me.

What CK told me was, if you want a strong aromatic flavour which I like it alot should go after 12.30pm which most of the beef was already soak into the soup that makes the soup base stronger taste. Best time to go around 1.00-1.30pm.

Kam Ah (7)

Another stall that must not miss which is the ‘Fried Oyster’.

Kam Ah (8)
Frying the base of the egg in the hot plate.

Kam Ah (9)

We had to plate, we started on with the ‘Crispy Fried Oyster’. Crispy on all the edge of the egg yet we just enjoying the crunch inside our mouth yet enjoying every piece of the oyster, dipping in with the chili sauce given just add on the extra taste. We enjoy bite of it.

Kam Ah (10)

Next plate to introduce was the original ‘Fried Oyster’ soft version a bit jelly’ish. My first encounter was this plate then only later found out that I love the crispy version more. RM5

Surely it was a good experience for breakfast yet I will come again around lunch time to try on their thicker version of soup base but the parking in the area is a pain in the ass. Have to park whenever you see a spot and walk over. Thanks to CK for bringing me and BBO to this place.
