I used to come to QE2 to hang out with my friends for many occasion and pass by this restaurant many times . .  Never did I know that, my last visit back to Penang, my dad brought me to Hai Nan Town for lunch, that I just got to know is one of his favourite restaurant, partly because they served Hainanese cuisine.

Hai Nan Town Restaurant is situated next to Penang Jetty which can be easily located as it can be consider a building by itself and also a famous spot for alot photographer to do photoshoot here.

If you come at night, you will enjoy a the wonderfull scenery facing the jetty with sea breeze.

Usually I definately prefer my Lohbak to be in Pork Version especially when I am in Penang, then Chicken Lorbak in here is pretty good too, by using strips of chicken that cook along with ‘ngor hiang’ with skin fried till crips.   RM 10.50

Otak – Otak was normal as I have eaten better ones @ RM 3

Kacang Botol fried with samble and pranws is a dish to consider to order, fried evenly and its crips each of it. .  RM 12

Hainanese Lamb is my dad’s favourite, because it was cook quite soupy and the lamb lamb taste is very mild that suits my sister also, lamb was cook till very soft n the soup was aromatic with the lamb taste, to me it would taste a bit more nice if the lamb taste is abit stronger @ RM 22

Yam Duck base is a bit milky which filled with yam taste which is another good dish to consider @ RM 24

Curry Fish , quite sour in the curry n spicy which is just nice, fish was fresh as the meat is soft @ RM 66

My family enjoy the meal here. . . and ambiance is nice especially for family meal  and this restaurant is a Halal Restaurant. . .

It have been long time since I heard about Food Foundry in section 17 on how good their mille crepes are. I have always wanted to try it out but always last minute there are cancellation or last minute thing that I gotta do. Even 2 weeks before coming here, there was actually a plan to come here for the deserts but got cancel again, I guess timing is on my side this round that I at last manage to step my foot into this place.

Food foundry

Food foundry (2)

As I reach the place, I find that Food Foundry actually hidden in the middle of Section 17 that is not really that visible if you drive pass along the road as it is operating on the ground floor. Even though it is quite hidden but it had not stopped many food or desert lover to hunt for this place.

Food foundry (3)

In Food Foundry, alot of thing you can miss but their Mille Crepe remain as one of the best desert to hunt for.

Food foundry (4)

The restaurant is divided into two sections, if you are looking for a sweet chat and comfortable place to have a good time, then you would want to be in this section that filled with rattan chair and pillows on it with orange dim light.

Food foundry (5)

What I know that this wall is handpainted byone of the artist. .   Pretty impressive as I thought they use spray to spray on it.

Food foundry (6)

Another section is what I felt more for dining purposes.

Food foundry (7)

A simple menu that they have. . .

Food foundry (14)

Iced Mocha

Food foundry (15)

‘Soup of the day – Onion Soup’ @ RM8

Food foundry (16)

‘Basket of Bread’ which is homemade by themselves that its best eaten when it is served. @ RM 2

Food foundry (17)

‘Soup of the day – Tomato cream soup’ turns out to be very aromatic, creamy that tomato taste is strong but dipping it with their homemade bread is something that goes along very well. RM 8

Food foundry (18)

I am a fan of greenery when it comes to food as ‘Foundry Caesar Salad’ @ RM 12 as I love mine with lettuce and those hard-boiled eggs with crouton, sprinkle with lots of cheese powder.

Food foundry (19)

If you prefer something light to start of with, another option would be ‘Green Salad’ @RM 8 fresh lettuce, carrot, cucumber and pepper with drizzles of olive oil.

Let me present you my partners in crime for Melaka trip that got kidnap along miss out on another 2 person Kebbie and Ping which they last minute they cant go:

Our mission is to explore the food and chin chai walk round and look around. Restaurant that were in wanted list are:

1) Toast n Toast
2) Kedai Kopi Chung Wah (Chicken Rice Ball)
3) Lau Qian Ice Cafe (Durian Cendol)
4) Afternoon Snack
5) Satay Celup
6) Portuguese Village Seafood
7) Jonker’s Walk Night Market (Street Food)
8) Nyonya Kuih
9) The Seafarer (Nyonya Food)
10) Satay

and the places that we walk around:

While walking around suddenly found this creepy area that the people around that area pull a prank on it. Loooks like some 1 got burried.

The very historic place of Malaka or the jewel of it. The A’Famosa, the only pieces left of the whole fortress.

Just realise that now Melaka had turn into so historical place to explore. I wish that Penang also had this kind of development.
The most famous street in Melaka. Jonker Street.
Please…I need fare to go back KL…my partners left me behind.

Watch out on crossing the road.

A street performance by this uncle. Blowing old classic chinese music.
Pity him that, he was trying to so hard and not many people walk pass that gave him money. He was nearly out of breath.
I thought this is the biggest toothpaste cover that I ever seen, mana tau is for putting toilet rolls. Y not tissue box. If it was for tissue box I would buy loh~

The very main entrance of China Town a.k.a Jonker Street. On the right is the famous night market and full of food to be hunt. On the left road is more on clasic area with temple and some old stores.
I felt that, this is a shop that should not be miss. A classic historical shop that mention about the small feet back in the days of China.
The shop owner were very friendly. Explaning how all this happen and this shop been operate by the family for a long long time already.
All these can be bought for souvenir. Cute yet classic.

The place that attracted alot of tourist for photoshot in the afternoon. That’s what I thought.
To take a shot with the Iguana or Phyton, you have to pay RM10 to the ah pek using their camera for a shot and print a pic for you. So you can take as many pic as you can. The ah pek very high tech also. Instant print out for you. Using the Canon external photo printer. Got kinda shock when he used that.
During at night, it has become a good place for alot of photographers. Filled with lights and alot of nice shots can be taken.

the Famous Night Market. Jonker Street. Food and Souvenir.
This uncle is in the would Guiness Book of record for using his Qi Gong to break coconuts in the shortest time. We were standing there quite long, turns out to be more talking than performance. By the time we left he still have finish talking. GENG!

During late nite, we went to Geographer Cafe for drinking and also to see people dance.
This guy, the most attractive and eye catcher of the night. Wear so yeng and dance cha cha, Rumba and a few other dance stance. He is also very geng in dancing Micheal Jackson moves which the owner purposely put a song for him to dance. Pretty cool and we were all giving full support for him~

Group dance that any 1 can participate. So Jon and Kenji went, as they were high on alcohol d.
Alot of things happen after this dance and I was warn not to upload in here.
and let me present you the group that sing miserably on the road. The BaiBai group.!

After dinner at Portuguese settlement, we head back to hotel to park our car and head to Jonker’s street night market. Where this is one of the famous streets everyone in town is talking about.

As it was weekend and the people conquering the streets is like Sparta, most stalls also got people buy, and the people that walking up and down is like morning market + night market + a lot of Singaporean + a lot outstation people = human traffic jam.

Yet we are still quite full from our dinner which is like 75-80% full but then still hiau, wanna try out the food. So when I came across the very first stall is this ‘Nyonya Delights’.

The auntie is enjoying brisk business and I am squeezing in to take my shot and seeing what variety she is having. Quite unique in the shape and flavor itself and ask the rest to share. Every one with one bites.

What I remember is the ‘Nyonya Sri Muka’ is my most preffered compare to the rest.

As the daughter also helping out on the stalls, the price range from RM0.50-RM2.

I see a lot of kids and young couples holding this one stick eat eating while walking. Thought its something unique mana tau its this Taiwan street snack stall. Taste so so only la..not my type of desert.
As walking down the streets and the amount of sweats accumulating on my body is going up. Then while waiting for the rest to catch up and waiting, saw this stall which is usually doesn’t attract me but the new flavor surely get my attention.

Usually I get peanut with corn and sometimes angry with egg also.

I have never tried ‘Durian Pancake’ and with my stomach already going to its full capacity yet still want to try.

The best part is they use the original durian meat and put upon. When the aroma was flying around, me and Kenji was like hmm..not bad not bad.. uncle add one more…hahah…all already full but got tempted by this piece.
Hot from the pan, crispy yet flavorful and the durian taste is what I prefer, a bit bitter yet sweet and with the crust around just taste good. All of us enjoy every bite of it. If we have room for more, surely we are going for second piece.
This stall is located at this street or this corner of the shop. The only stall serve with durian. Something you should try.

The stall opposite which looks colorful pulls me to that stall. Hot steaming good for facial yet with the amount of tim sum they are offering, cannot fill in liau. Just skip this stall. Maybe those who have tried can let me know.

Few stalls down the road, Kenji already start complaining that we all are animal. Do not know the word called ‘STOPPED’. Eating from morning till night yet still eating, Nagging all the way after the pancake.

Then came across this stall, that the uncle sell left 5-6 pieces of the otak-otak and Karen sapu everything + order additional 100 sticks to tapau back to KL. We asked her is she alright or not. Buying so many to eat. 50 is just enough, she said that can put in fridge and last 1 ma. I think she is going in to winter and need to stock up food for hibernation process.

Walk towards end of the street, Choe and Jon was saying wanna eat lala. then I said you guys go ahead. Never a fan of lala..yew..geli with the blood some more. Yucks~

Then ah Keh pull me along to eat the jap stall which she wanted only to take the picture of the stall, so jap feel but then the pic that I took was blurr didn’t post up..deng!~

I have never seen a Japanese stall outside on kopitiam or pasar malam or night market enjoying brisk business. These guys never stop wrapping up sushi.
This is one of their signature item in the stall. We find it quite nice. Should not miss if you came across this stall. Can’t remember the name but you will get to see a lot people ordering that.

Another signature was ‘Fruit Sushi’ serve in apple and a few other fruits. Something unique which you can try out, didn’t try the fruit as my stomach already put a stop sign for foods. NO MORE FOODS in my body.

Of course I am not eating that, cuz I was seating in front of them in the stalls, I am taking most of the pics I can.

This is what most of Karen’s order. Order then I have to become recycle bin.
The sushi that the prepare was fresh even for the salmon, no complain for a street food.

The sushi that was prepared is fresh even for the salmon, there is no complain la..for such a street food can get that kind of quality.

After the sushi, for my very own personal last stop which I saw a kid licking this so tempting cuz the weather was hot and surely its the thing that I need for at least its very refreshing and cooling. I took the Lime flavour which taste like you buy in Kedai runcit when I was a kid. Happily licking all the way to beer session.
Remarks: do not miss the durian pancake and the Sushi signature.
