In KL most of us fancy certain brand of Taiwanese Dessert as for Penang people, there are certain brand that capture their attention too. Blackball in Penang seems to be doing pretty well that have won many hearts of dessert people. I realiase it works for them in Penang too as this brand have quite a no.of branches.

Blackball (1)

First time testing out this brand, which it seems is another famous brand from Taiwan that certainly have no doubt in the taste.

Blackball (2)

While waiting for movies, then chill here for a while. Interior are pretty similiar to the others.

Blackball (3)

Try one of their new signature with corn base ice, with taro balls, grass jelly, corn, jelly and ice cream. First few bites of corn ice taste alright as the more we take, we could not finish it as if not mistaken pineapple was added in as there are sourish end. Taro balls wasnt done that well, as the texture is soft and non chewy. Not bad overall.

Blackball (4)

Another Blackball signature is serve with Taro Ball, Taro Q, Pearl, grass jelly and red beans served with some fresh milk (if serve cold). This is not bad as pretty strong taste of grass jelly is there, red bean added the bite texture, and I find it too much pearl for me. Next time should request less pearls. 😀

Blackball (5)

Try out their classic Pearl Milk Tea and 25% is too pale for us as other brand 25% is just perfect. For Blackball 50% sugar in their drinks is just perfect. I love their Winter Melon Tea. Strong in taste and not that sweet. Next time I know where to ta pau my drinks before movie.

I am very sure that many of you or 90% of you out there have dine before in Old Town White Coffee, which I have one in my office area in Jaya One. We often have headache during lunch time and when I suggested Old Town White Coffee Signature for breakfast or lunch most of them reluctant to go along because of the food quality.

When I received an invitation to review on Old Town White coffee food I am very surprise and why do they need to do a review since its pretty well know. Then decided to give it a try to check what is going on.

Old town (1)

Heading to Old Town White Coffee Signature outlet in 1-Utama which, there are only limited outlet and food choices in here are more.

Old town (2)

They event do sell your favorite coffee pack and instant.

Old town (3)

Old town (4)

Menu in here is definately different compare to those normal Old Town White Coffee Outlet and pricing also different which is slightly more expensive.

Old town (5)

Range in here are 20% more . . .

This is one of their latest edition to their new range of food product.

Old town (6)

Ice blended range is very impressive which is totally out of my expectation. Flavors are blended well and not too sweet, surely for a price like that its worth recommending at RM7.90. I love their mint series.

Old town (7)

Garlic Butter Toast @ RM4.60. Sometimes I do take this for breakfast and its pretty much different compare to their normal outlet. Its much stronger in taste and the small of garlic while its serving already tempt us.

Old town (8)

Fried Dumpling @ RM5.90

Old town (14)

One of my favourite when I was introduce by my colleague during tea time is their  Curry Puff @ RM4.90 as she bought as many as 20 pieces to treat all of us. Its slightly pricey of course but when you have the nearest outlet then this is one of the obtion. Ingredient in there is pretty generous.

Old town (10)

This is the first time I see they do have Tomyam Rice in the menu and decided to try it out. Smells good and taste nice, not to strong of tomyum spices which is just nice and rice is fried with wok hei. @ RM 11.90

Old town (11)

Their signature item which is Supreme Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak @ RM13.50

Old town (12)

Supreme Javanese Mee is pretty good too. Gravy is thick enough and well presented, surely I wont mind to order again.@ RM9.50

Old town (13)

oh, this is the star dish of the night that caught many of our atttention, even with some say you serious wanna order this. I say why not give it a try. Came out every one finish this dish within seconds. For a Halal Fried Kuey Teow in Egg Gravy/”Wat Tan Hor” @ RM10.90 it taste marvelous. Fill with ‘wok hei’ with gravy just thick enough to pair along with the koey teow. Surely one of the best this in the whole menu and I did came back dine again on this dish after our review. It still taste good in this 1-U outlet. (others I have no idea) – highly recommended~

Old town (16)

Strawberry Snow Ice @ RM6.90

Old town (18)

Peanut Snow Ice @ RM6.90

Old town (17)

Mango Snow Ice @ RM6.90

With their new desert on the menu not long ago, its a great addtion and among 3 flavours I like Peanut and Mango. Soft shave ice, just nice for our hot weather (opps not, rainy season)

Just barely a few weeks old and this place already got a massive publicity. One of the reason is they are the first Ramen restaurant that serve Authentic Kyushu Ramen in Malaysia, as actually means Tonkatsu that boil their soup with pork bone. There are already quite a number of Ramen shop popping up and as a Ramen lover and have tasted very nice ramen overseas, hope this Yamagoya Ramen will fare pretty good too . .

Yamagoya (1)

Not only that, what makes them special as they are also the first outlet of the famous Japanese Chain Ramen Restaurant as they have more than 140 outlets in Japan and this shop had landed in Malaysia as currently operating in Publika, Solaris Dutamas would be their very first outlet.

Yamagoya (2)

As I saw on the wall and people coming into this shop and dine with Chinese Newspaper cutting as I believe some chinese food writter had came by to feature on it and we came in as early as 7.30pm and its full till we left 10.00pm and there are still people coming in.

Yamagoya (3)

Yamagoya (4)

Their ramen is made fresh daily and they weigh the ramen accordingly on the machine to ensure that all are even.

Yamagoya (5)

Yamagoya (6)

Here you go, with some choices of the ramen available as this shop purely serve ramen .. .

Yamagoya (7)

This is one of my favourite drink that I often used to drink it as my lunch drink when I was studying overseas that time. Its Calpis WaterRM5.80.

It is a uncarbonated soft drink as the beverage has a light, somewhat milky, and slightly acidic flavor, similar to plain or vanilla-flavored yogurt or Yakult. Its ingredients include water, nonfat dry milk and lactic acid, and is produced by lactic acid fermentation.

The drink is sold as a concentrate which is mixed with water or sometimes milk just before consumption. A pre-diluted version known as Calpis Water “Karupisu Wōtā” (カルピスウォーター?), or its carbonated variety, known as Calpis Soda “Karupisu Sōda” (カルピスソーダ?), are also available. It is also used to flavor kakigori (shaved ice) and as a mixer for cocktails and chuhai. (Source from Wikipedia)

Yamagoya (8)

AS a ramen shop, these few sauces its  a must have to make it complete, as I usually like to add in alot of chili oil . .:D

Yamagoya (9)

As a starter, I rarely miss this order Gyoza @ RM 11. If the gyoza is pan fried a bit longer at the bottom till the skin is crips, it can be one of the best so far I have come accross. . .

Yamagoya (10)

This might look like one of ordinary Fried Chicken as the taste is just amazing. Squeeze it with lemon to get a hint of sour taste and dip with Japanese Mayo and the soy sauce at the bottom makes it perfect in taste as the skin is crispy and the chicken meat being fried just perfect as the meat is not too dry. Guess what, our table ended up ordering 3 plates of this. RM11 – highly Recommended!

Yamagoya (12)

One of my favorite is to get eggs in my ramen as this is Yamagoya Braised Soya Sauce Egg. If the yolk is not so cook it would be a perfect pair, still good in taste, no complain . .@ RM4

Yamagoya (13)

When comes to pork, we will never complain more which less is just only the factor. So we ordered additional 2 plates of Pork Char Siu as this side dish is serve cold compare to the one added into the Ramen. Different in taste though as I prefer mine to be dip into the ramen.@ RM11

Yamagoya (11)

If you love garlic taste then this shall be one of the ramen you should hunt for – Black Garlic Ramen @ RM22. Garlic taste is pretty strong in the sweet soup base as just how I like it. – recommended~

Yamagoya (14)

Menma Ramen @  RM22

Yamagoya (15)

Mukashi Special Ramen is a bit mild in taste, with the broth soup that they add in just suits many people taste bud. How I make it more interesting is by adding alot of chili oil then it adds in the kick for me. 😀  RM24

Yamagoya (16)

Fuhhh, one of the super star on our table is this Char Siu Ramen. The strong sweet taste of soup base makes us fight for this bowl of Ramen filled with thin slice of Char Siu. I just love this bowl of soup base.  @ RM24, highly Recommended!

Yamagoya (17)

Another one of my favourite is Spicy Tobanjan Ramen @ RM 22

Yamagoya (18)

Well, do not expect the spicyness level is the Malaysian version as remember its authentic from Japan and Japanese taste bud on spicy level is very much different compare to our local palate. After put it in, it taste pretty good and by one scoop of spicy paste you might find it not too kick, why not add in another paste that would have been perfect. (beware that you might spoil the authentic taste of it if you add in 2 paste).

By having one paste it just make the soup a bit spicy and aromatic.  – Recommended~

Yamagoya (20)

A bit of infuse ramen which is Kimchi Ramen, a more korean taste. @ RM22

Yamagoya (21)

There are only 4 of us in the table and look at the amount of Ramen we whack! Its just something I could not resist as this shop have currently top in my list if I am craving for Ramen because of its ramen texture and soup base. Well, if I have to compare to the one I have overseas still cannot be compared and talking bout local, this would be one of the best so far. Would be a highly recommended shop by me. or currently one of the best ramen shop in KL.

REMARKS: please eat the noodle what its serve hot, as the noodle is springy and smooth.. If you leave it a while or more than 5 minutes soak in the soup, the noodle texture had change and become soggy.

When always comes to Penang food, most people would crave for it but with this famous hawker stall in Penang that now been operating in this area for quite some time where I used to eat here quite often when I was staying around here.

It has been quite some time I did not come to eat already and to my surprise they have change their image to more exlcusive to create another competitve market to Papa Rich and Old-Town.

This is their indoor area, which is now had turn to such a nice place more cozy.

They revamp on their menu look too.

Of course with such a renovation it does come down to one thing. A little price increase.

Order this ‘3 Colour Tea’ RM4.50 each. Looks good but it taste something like teh tarik. To me its a bit sweet though.
I have always crave for ‘Otak-Otak’ and this shop of course do offer it here, it would not be the best I have had with its taste of a bit spicy and soft slice of fish in the middle, its not bad to kill my crave’ness but on that day I prefer it to be warmer.. RM5
This is slice of fish in the middle.
Of course here comes the signature of the shop ‘Penang Curry Mee’ with its very clear white base soup that taste sweet and pale in colour that filled with some shrimps, lala, cuttlefish and tau pok but I always like it to be………
add on their homemade chili special for curry mee.
I have added 2 spoonfull till the soup base become fiery red. It is just the look not spicy as what it meant to be. To me, curry mee will not be perfect if without the ‘huek’. The reason that they do not have it now is because this shop is HALAL now. RM6.50
They of course do increase the standard of the shop look but on the other side their quality drop which not as good as it used to be. Still not bad for local KL but if compare to Penang..its alot.

I have always been wondering when I pass this shop no matter day or night, its always quite pack. It is that nice were the question I have been asking myself…cuz I have a very bad experience with their Sunway Branch. Till we went to lunch for the Shabu Shabu next door and they said, har..not that kind they prefer then we shifted to this shop and I start to say, weiii..don wan this shop can ah, then most of them agree here then what can I say some more. So just tag along la..

Papa Rich interior design is always kinda exclusive kopitiam concept as when I stayed at my aunts place at Seapark there are 1 Papa Rich also which is quite pack with people and the same with Old Town. Currently I would rate that Old Town main competitor is Papa Rich which had been mushrooming like crazee. Popping up in most of the makan makan area.

In the menu, picture illustration is even better than Old Town but the only thing to test on was their quality of food.

Kopi Si Peng was strong in coffee flavour but disappointing the ais is to much which for a few sips its gone. Left the ice-bone.

Their Kaya and Butter Toast’ which is a bit different because they separate it out and let you spread it over yourself and the best part is the give you the whole slice of butter. The bread was bakar to crispiness on the edge and spread kaya and butter given is just very nice.
Nasi Lemak which the rice is cook with some santan which we prefer and the curry chicken is not that spicy, a bit lemak and the sambal is just nice. Not too spicy but eat along just pull up the taste of the dish.

I love their version of ‘Curry Mee which is very lemak and a bit thick in soup base. A bit spicy yet the soup is boiling hot which suits to my likings and I eat till sweating all over.
‘Prawn Mee look very disappointed but we were surprise by the taste of it. It was serve very oily base and we slowly scoop it off and left a bit which its original version should be and the soup base is very flavourful, taste like they had take the prawn shell to crush and cook with it. Its very sweet prawn shell base aroma and added in the chili making it spicy is just perfect yet its boiling hot.
‘Dry Ipoh Koey Teow which I find it nothing special to talk about as there are better ones.
I have lost the receipt but I can say that the price is slightly more expensive than Old Town but for this branch I definitely do not mind to come here again and its a good place for hang out with friends too.

Concept kopitiam industry had been a boom at the moment. You can just see every where or corner is filled with different name and concept that they have. After Old Town, I believe Pappa Rich is one of their very next competitor. By hearing saying that the food is not bad, and my parents thought of something light to eat, so decided to choose this 1.

Compare to Old Town, I liked their interior design more, gives you comfy feeling and surely a great place to hang out.
When I look into the drinks menu, the name of the drink ‘Longan Milk Honey Ice’ caught my attention on ordering it. Something unique. A warning to those who have obesity. Please do not order this. The drink is damm sweet. It feels like you are drinking sugar syrup. I only manage to drink a few sips. That’s all. If the sugar lvl decrease by 70%, I think it would surely taste nice. RM6.90

When this ‘Roti Steam Kaya’ was served to my dad, my impression was, roti Bangkali(an Indian with the motorcycle selling bread) is served. Nothing special on this yet it cost RM4.50.

‘Nissin Noodle Fried Sausage n Chicken’ was my order. It is the far most plain ever dish that I have eaten in a restaurant which you can just cook yourself at home. Tasteless yet watery and the vegie did not wash clean. Cost RM 7.90 which I think is very expensive compare to those in Kim Garry or other Hong Kong restaurant or Old Town.
My mom was a very chin chai person when comes to food, but she irk about this ‘Mee Soup Foo Chuck n Fish Cake’ which is very salty. She said that its like eating a bowl of salt which I also tried, its really like putting your mouth taste some sea water. RM8.90
My bro had this ‘Pappa Chicken Chop’ and only one word for this. No comment or simply plain! RM15.90
‘Pappa Cendul’ Talking about cendul, thought that with its classy look of the restaurant and the serving of desert wouldn’t be disappointing yet it proves me correct. The ice did not blend very smooth, yet when you put it your mouth is like ice crush. If directly swallow, chances of throat damage might happen. The gula Melaka is very sweet which put too much. The santan taste a bit weird. Did not finish also. RM5.50
‘Tau Foo Fa Tong Yuen’ always remain one of my big time favorite. For this case, I just don like the taste of its soya. The skin of the tong yuen is too thick like eating flour than the filling in it!RM5.90 till the end, I still think the 1 in pasar malam taste much better than this.
My family and I had most disappointing meal and I would rate worst ever eaten so far yet with the price tag on each of the meal and drinks, its overprice and also have to pay gov tax and service charge. Definately BANNED this branch. Would not return anymore.
Maybe would try other outlets, since there are a few of my friends saying that they taste much better than Old Town but still prefer Old Town alot.
