After bubble milk hit hard on our local shores then what is the next buzz? Well, there are 2 actually as now little cafe’s are popping up in many corner and there are a few good ones and burger is also the next big thing here. One of the latest outlet to open its door to public is KGB (Killer Gourmet Burgers) that located the same row as Antipodean Jalan Telawi there.

KGB (1)

Its a small shop that operating around the area that soon to be filled with many coffee joints. Started off bout less than a month if I am not mistaken and its start to gain its popularity over the neighbourhood with a few bloggeres blogged about them.

KGB (2)

On our first visit we came it was rather dissapointed cuz we did not know the opereate only at night for the 1st month and for the following week, we decided to come back for dinner. STaff here are very helpful and friendly as they are explaining to us what to eat and try for first timer.

KGB (3)

Menu are pretty straight forward with what types of meat you prefer and there is not much to choose from which makes us easier to make up our mind.

KGB (4)

KGB (5)

chicken bites are pretty good though, fried to crips and the best thing to pair with it is their special made sauce. Light sourish end that goes well with it.

KGB (6)

Kimchi with Bulgogi Beef Fries @ RM 13.90

KGB (7)

this is another item that attracted our attention. Looks good but the taste is still room for improvemement as we did gave our feedback to them.

KGB (8)

If you cant take beef then this is one of the choices to go for. Seoul Chicken @ RM 15.90, find that the taste is bit funny.

KGB (15)

on the size of the chicken breast that they are using, its quite thick, and still juicy after fried.

KGB (9)

All their burgers come in their signature and one of the best is not only their patty is also their bun. I love it as its soft and fluffy yet toast to my likings.

KGB (10)

The Bobcat burger @ RM15.90 made with luscious green chili slaw & jalapeno mayo. If you cant take spicy then skip this as the spicy dont hit you instantly. It comes after that. To me its still okay.

KGB (11)

The Shack turns out to be one of my favourite in the list @ RM13.90 nett, the patty is fragrant and juicy top with a slice of cheddar cheese with Shack sauce sandwiched in the fresh, fluffy bread. I just called it Cheeze burger. One of the best in the list that wont go wrong. – Highly Recommended

KGB (12)

The Tornado @ RM15.90 – Looks big that filled with onnion rings, fried egg and fiery mayo. I expect this to be spicy because of the word fiery mayo but didnt enlighten me with that.

KGB (13)

I must say that the chef here are pretty good that able to make nearly all my range of burgers medium, that make it soft and juicy. All of us love it.

KGB (14)

this is one of the special homemade sauce. Its good!

Remark: Do take not that some of the burgers are filled with sauces and it might get messy . . Do take tissue to prepare. ūüėÄ

Being being a food hunter is my passion and looking at the F&B industries in Penang had certainly grown to another new level, with more concept restaurant are pumping up. One of the latest restaurant that had hit the shores of Penang that started operating about 2 months back is this newly Authentic Italian Restaurant at Via Pre that I can say operate and own by expatriate Italians.

via pre (1)

The shops are easily to be located as its opposite QE2 or next to British Council building. Painted in white like heritage building and at night, its well light up. Just beware that they do not have a big signage on the building and you have to drive slowly to locate the place as its at a small corner turning.

via pre (2)

Via Pre had attracted many people to visit this place and I think this would be the first Italian restaurant that offer Authentic Italian Cuisine. For those who have not tried the actual Italian food, this definitely would be one of the place to visit!

via pre (3)

via pre (4)

Love the interior design . . as the whole design is pretty much reflect on the typical Italian design and as Italian restaurant I am amaze of their wine range that they are offering and I am very keen to try out Italian wine.

via pre (5)

via pre (6)

via pre (7)

Love their cake counter that it had been a while since I have last enter this kind of restaurant, the last one was during my study period in Melbourne and definitely enjoy it here now.

One of my friend told me that, these restaurant imported most of the ingredients as what they are trying to cook are unable to source locally.

via pre (8)

via pre (9)

via pre (10)

via pre (11)

One advice, as Penang people do not like to do reservation, it is highly advise to do your reservation as its always full during dinner and it is gaining its popularity.

via pre (13)

via pre (14)

via pre (15)

Price are very reasonable that its not too expensive.

via pre (16)

I look at the beer range and find that the waiter recommend me to try on  Birra Menabrea an Italian beer, and my my, its one of a true great beer that I enjoy and beats down many beer out there. Very easy to drink, smooth and bubbly need to drink it while its chill, and after taste its sweet and hint of barley oak can be tasted. РRecommended! @RM25

via pre (17)

Then we were serve with a portion of bread which is usual that in Italian dining they will serve you a basket of home made bread with plain and oak of course their traditional eating is dipping the bread along with olive oil and vinegar. Its not like those serve with butter. Find it weird? hehe, learn to enjoy oh~

After looking at the food menu, I do not know what to order as its pretty much in bombastic Italian words and ask the owner to introduce. Then he introduce me special of the day which is not in the menu that they often change it to get the best ingredient and create 2-3 best dishes out for you to enjoy.

As we were pretty full from snacks just now, so decided to leave our order to the hands of the owner by ordering 3 dishes to share.

via pre (18)

For a soup we start off with Zuppa Toscana which is soup of the day with mixture of various types of beans. The taste is light, lean towards a bit sourish from tomato I believe and finely chop beans that bring the taste up. Some of you might not like the taste and texture of it as I find it pretty good. Learn to eat it when I was oversea. @ RM 16

via pre (19)

Since he know we love to try out food, then he recommend us to try out Special Starter that consist of Quiche, Pie and smoked beef slice with special sauce. @ RM 78

Spinach Quiche is superbly good, soft with hint of egg taste and spinach been blended and the crust is warm and crispy. Dip along with the sauce makes it event perfect with a slight sweetness at the end.

Pie is fluffy and cutting it, the tuna base mixture flow out and just enjoy every bite of it.

via pre (20)

Star of the 3 is the smoked beef that is sweet in taste and fresh, yet they pair it with salmon sauce as what we believe it as we were confuse that looking at it is smoked beef and tasting it had a after taste of salmon. A perfect combination!

via pre (21)

To eat back something authentic that I have pretty miss is Tortellini Special for the night, as usually these cant be eaten much as it is pretty filling and the ingredient they stuff in are with some mushrooms and meat. Pretty simple and flavourful.

As a food lover, I surely enjoy my meal tonight and looking forward to go back to try out their other range like spaghetti, pizza and specialty. I believe many of you would not enjoy the taste of it as this is pretty much towards Authentic Italian taste which the taste is not localize. Therefore, for those of you love are looking for authentic Italian Cuisine, Via РPre certainly is the place I am highly recommending in Penang.

Service is very attentive even though its super busy for the night, staff are very friendly even though they are foreigners, and if you do encounter bad service experience, just give them a break as they just operating just for 2 months. Alot of things to fine tune and I believe they never expect it to be fully house most of the night.

Bangkok trip is all about makan on my 5th day trip, after heavy dinner at one of good restaurant that Goft recommended which is Taling Pling at Central World then now we are hunting for one of the best desert around that area called Mango Tango that operated by Hong Kee according to Goft. On the way walking there, if it wasnt raining, there are night market directly opposite Central world heading to Siam square.

Mango Tango (1)

I find that the street market here sell clothing which is pretty nice as if we do not have time to shop alot in famous JJ Market (Chatuchak Market), here would be one of the good option too as you can bargain.

Mango Tango (2)

After about 5 minutes walk from Central World, here we are, as we reach our jaw drop as the place is so little and flock by so many people ready to hunt for places in the compact shop.

Mango Tango (3)

This place got famous with alot foreginers because it got feature in some international food guide in Hong Kong and Japan. There is where how they gain the popularity and branding.

Mango Tango (4)

Cannot deny that I love the concept of the shop that show’s purely they are selling desert and only desert that they are serving. They source the best mango in Thailand and its pluck fresh. A simple decoration of the outlet make it outstanding around the neighourhood area as it is very hard for you to miss the shop that is well light up.

Mango Tango (6)

Mango Tango (7)

Mango Tango (8)

I guess these are their best seller therefore put at the counter

Mango Tango (9)

We are amaze how fast this worker cut on the mango and look so pro .. . We were just drooling like a small kid looking at candy when me, Steven and Tatt saw the mango how yellowish and how sweet it is going to taste like. .

Mango Tango (5)

Annie always love to promote how  god the food is and this round with menu, I guess she will be a good food ambassor. Too bad I was not allow to post her eating pose. Saliva will drop just by seeing her tam chiak face (the way she eat). The cute menu also in Mango shape and the have selected menu for you to choose from and we have let the desicion for Goft again to go for our menu.

Mango Tango (10)

Getting ready with my spoon to attack on the desert yet the funny thing is that I have heard An Apple a day keeps the doc away and now, its A Mango a Day keeps the Doc away . .kekeke I sure do not mind by having lots of sweet aromatic mango. . .

As we were super full from dinner, and now its very hard for us to resist to say NO to deserts after looking on how the way they do it and die die also must try quite few. Our initial plan was order 2-3 to share and the end up result every one having one portion. ūüėÄ

Mango Tango (11)

Mango Sticky rice is just so opposite version of what we have in Malaysia and the servings there as I meant, that in Malaysia our sticky rice is a huge chink of it with a few slices of mango and in Mango Tango is a huge big ass mango with small scoop of sticky rice. Its served warm, soft and very aromatic with their superb coconut milk as we love it so much on the taste and pair with the smooth sweet mango is just perfect.

Mango Tango (12)

Mango Tango (13)

Do not know what to choose get Mango Tango Signature dessert and consists of a half nicely cut mango in cubes, with a side of mango pudding topped with whipped cream and a ball of mango sorbet. A perfect combination to try all version in their outlet.

Mango Tango (14)

Mango Delight comes with a mixture of fruits base, kiwi, mango, honeydew, aloe verra, watermelon and some other ingredient, and all the fruits are fresh and sweet.

Mango Tango (15)

Mango Smothie is super good, very smooth, easy to drink yet the mango is so aromatic like drinking pure mango juice.

Mango Tango (16)

Mango Tango (17)

all of us having great time with our desert and this is one of Goft’s fav drink .

Mango Tango (18)

One thing I regreted that I did not buy enough is their Sensational Mango Tango Desert РPreserved Fruits. One of the best I have eaten so far as they sell it in lose pack or economy pack that comes in a pack of 3 boxes. As for  now, whenver my friend go to Bangkok, I will try to ask them tapau this back for me .. Hehehe .. Once you eat it, its addictive even my parents finish this whole pack on the night itself.

Dry, not too sweet, as its like eating pure mango in another version. Recommended to get at least 2 pack.

Mango Tango (19)

Here we are, our desert hunter and Collen always busy with her food, that is how tam chiak she is whenever taking pictures. ūüėÄ

As for last say, any order in the menu, surely will satisfy your crave on desert as all also pretty good!

If you do go Bangkok in the area of famous shopping districk Central World that area, please do not miss this super good yet delicious Mango desert, as you would not regret even though its a bit hard to find as you have to walk thru some alley turn right turn left.

Highly Recommended if you love or do not like desert.!!!!

They have 4 branch in Bangkok check out their website for other branches location : www.mymangotango.com

I just wish ¬†Malaysia have such a good desert shop. The set back is our mango is so exp and import in even worst. I guess I shall keep my mango crave till next holiday . . ūüôĀ

Laksa Beras? or translate it into Rice Laksa? Doesnt sound right . .:D Anyway, as my understanding is that Laksa Beras is made of rice flour in a certain mold and comes out with this silky smooth laksa noodle. Every chef have their own secret recepi to make it better when the noodle boil in the hot water it doesnt break.

So my friend decided to bring me to one of her favourite malay laksa stall over the past weekend that its called Laksa Beras. They have been a regular customer since when she was a kid. This hidden  stall started off with family business and as it gains its popularity around the area, many stalls had open up as most of the stalls along the road or around the area are related to them as in either relatives or cousins. I think there would be handfull more than 5-8 stalls along the road.

malay laksa (1)

To reach here, along the road heading off from Bukit Mertajam, Penang to this road, spot for a Police station on your right and head straight then next is to spot on this few buildings that I have taken with blue roof top which is very obvious that is hard to be miss.

malay laksa (2)

The stall is located next to the blue roof top building . . . I would say the stall is pretty hidden and you can drive pass by without realizing it as right infront it would be a small curving road.

malay laksa (3)

A business operated from their parents and now taking over by their kids is one of the popular stalls among the neighborhood in the area.

malay laksa (4)

What is the difference between Laksa Beras and Penang Asam Laksa as the ingredient cook in it is similiar but taste came out is quite different.

Penang Asam Laksa you can taste sourness and especially there are people who love to put alot of shrimp paste (heh koh) in it, spicy at the end and turns out to be many people’s Favourite.

Laksa Beras or I called it Malay Laksa is another version of laksa I love to eat especially during Pasar Ramadan month. The soup base is a bit clear, sour bitter at the end, and the fish they had it slice or mince it and cook.

malay laksa (5)

malay laksa (6)

malay laksa (7)

Price is pretty cheap as SPecial for RM 3 and Normal for RM1.80. Its hard to find a portion like that in that kind of pricing.

malay laksa (8)

As mention by my friend, she help me order Special which is their signature.

malay laksa (9)

This is the plate of Laksa Beras Special @ RM 3

malay laksa (10)

malay laksa (11)

One thing I agree with my friend is the texture of the Laksa Beras noodle is super smooth and hardly come across this kind of texture and according to her it is made fresh by the family itself. In the special it comes with cucur udang and dip for a while and eat it is pretty good.

malay laksa (12)

Soup base is a bit clear or mild in taste as this is what the family recepi is, a bit sour bitter at the end, and the soup can just drink a lot. I did not finish my noodle as this is the 3rd stop for the morning itself. So its pretty much and one thing I did is I finish the soup. which is something different.

malay laksa (13)

This place if you ask me to go again, I will be a bit lost and they do not have the exact location as they told me to watch out for landmark only as insert in my post. Happy hunting to this Laksa Beras Place as I would rate it nice malay Laksa. It is advise to go early as at times the finish out early.

Its one of the road heading off from Bukit Mertajam to lead here.

Heading to Day 3, we woke up early in the morning and arrange a driver to pick us up and start our journey to Pattaya. Its actually a trip that takes about 2 n half hours from Bangkok city. As on the way, Goft did told me that we MUST and MUST drop by at this french bakery – La Baguette French Bakery that serve superb food that she never fails to drop by whenever she heads there.

La Bouget (1)

Okay.. What is so special about this shop?  La Baguette is actually a french bakery that serve many types of bread, pastries, deserts and not to miss their signature crepes. Open its door to public in year 2003 and there is where they have started to increase their popularity among locals and foreigners. Its a special place with unique design and very nice ambiance that just makes you want to stick in this shop longer.

La Bouget (2)

When you walk into the shop, there will be a ice cream bell ringing on the door then you will be greated with a smile by their friendly staff. The whole shop is painted fairly white with the shine of the early sun into the shop makes it even brighter. Menu on the ceiling are fitted with chalkboard style  with menu nicely printed on it.

La Bouget (3)

The whole shop was nicely decorated and it certainly blend in perfectly to give you the feel its a french bakery shop.

La Bouget (5)

Most of us are very excited as for the first time, we come into a french bakery shop and we love the ambiance and interior design alot. Very simple and cozy, making us walk around and busy hunting food at the menu and some of us busy camwhore around the cafe.

La Bouget (4)

Its divided into 2 sections, one is bakery and pastries and another side is deserts, crepes and gelato.

La Bouget (6)

This is what Goft told us that must not miss. Their signature crepes.

La Bouget (7)

and just look at the pastries and desert fridge, its fill with lots of selection and I just stare them for quite a while, too bad it was in early morning that I do not have appetite for these, if it were after lunch, I think I am going to force my friend to at least try 1/3 of the fridge.

La Bouget (8)

It was pretty pack in the morning and people just don wait for their seats even though we came first, they tend to go after what is available table to them. Then only I told the waitress that we came first only she advice another family on the issue.

La Bouget (10)

I like the setting of the cafe, that filled with book classic wooden shelf, small wooden table and chairs with old clock on the wall, huge 3 seater sofa at a corner and some huge single seater sofa, makes it very French ambiance.

La Bouget (11)

La Bouget (12)

This is how the three of them sunk their ass on the cosy sofa till don want to move their butt.

La Bouget (13)

Annie busy taking pictures with her new camera.
