Good food is definitely hard to find, more ever those that you found and like, quality to maintain is another challenge. One place definately did not let us down so far is Sanook Bistro and Spots Bar never let us down so far, even we patron this place numerous time as normal customer, the consistantcy of food is there. I have blog about this place before last year (click here). This restaurant is actually a hidden restaurant right in Kelana Jaya yet overlook the lake.

As for football fans, its will be a great place to hang out too, with huge screen special beer promo and ample parking around the area. As for this year, the Godfather had decided its time to change its food menu and came out with interesting food range that never fail to impress us.

Sanook (1)

I am totally impress with their wine menu, as this is the first time I came across a restaurant that write the characteristic of the wine and description of drinking. A totally perfect menu for me that I always have difficulties in looking for my bottle of wine yet asking the waiter/waitress they would not know what to recommend.

Sanook (2)

As its still early, we decided to chill with their signature Margarita @ RM11. A glass that is not too strong, with perfectly blend ice filled with salt at the glass and a slice of lemon. I ended having 2 glass. 😀

Sanook (3)

Jeng Jeng JEng.. here is the new menu, a unique way of capturing attention with chef special and road sign being install as a main attention grabber icon in the menu. BY many unique names and description in the menu have the attraction to attack us by telling us everything is good. – Dangerous!

Sanook (4)

Gyro Lamb Pita @ RM18 – Sliced boneless marinated lamb leg with veggies & black olives, stuffed in fresh homemade pita bread packets, with special yoghurt mint mint sauce. It look rather simple like any other pita bread that I am having. With first bite, lamb being well marinated and burst with flavor as the taste is even better when you dip with their yogurt mint.

Sanook (5)

Spicy Mermaid Salad @ RM22

For greens lover, something light to go after with seafood then it is filled with Sauteed tiger prawns & calamari rings tossed with roasted capsicums, asparagus, cubed Japanese cucumbers & romaine lettuce in Sanook’s special house dressing.

Sanook (6)

I prefer Moogus Salad @ RM22

Grilled Sirloin Beef & Asparagus tossed with wild rocket salad topped with parmesan cheese and roasted red capsicums in house special dressings. As its just simple and I always prefer meat over seafood in salad. 😀

Sanook (7)

Kim Yang Lamb Cutlets @ RM52

Kim’s favorite lamb cutlets coated in Korean Spices, charbroiled to perfection & accompany with Korean Kimchi. As unique as the name could tell you, this lamb certainly is one of a recommended dish in the menu. Marinated to perfection and cook to well that the meat is tender and juicy. Sauce is totally unique and nearly bone licking good.

Sanook (8)

Masala Rib Eye @ RM42

Prime cuts of beef rib eye (250 gram) coated with chef’s special mix of garam masala, grilled to perfection and accompany by vegetable kebabs.

Sanook (9)

A mix for us sometimes would be good as it give you the option. Again the sauce is the main item not to be miss to dip.

Sanook (10)

Sotong Otak Otak @ RM30

Sanook (11)

Grilled whole squid (250 grams) stuffed with prawn otak otak (spicy prawn paste), served with sambal tumis , pilaf rice, garden greens, garnished with prawn crackers, almond & fried shallots

Sanook (12)

When I saw this in the menu, I told myself I must order this – Espresso ChickenRM25. Something its totally unique and first time I came across.

Tender chicken chop with espresso honey glazed and then roasted to perfection & served with pomelo salad, corn mojo, citrus bean salsa paired with tortilla chips. Sauce on the chicken is just amazing.

Sanook (14)

Teriyaki Char Siew @ RM22 – Tenderly broiled chicken, brushed with special sweet soy sauce marinate, garnished with piquant plum sauce & green onions served with herbal pilaf rice

Sanook (13)

Tom Yum Goong Pisek @ RM29 – Soup lover that love tomyum, its bad that you miss this soup as the owner himself is nearly half Thai and very particular of his soup that he needs to ensure that the soup stays authentic as possible whereby what he prefer. Spicy enough to make you go numb for a while, sourish enough to my level and a perfect companion with rice.

Sanook (15)

I always told myself, I am going to skip their pizza this round yet I always end up ordering. SPICY THAI MANGO TUNA PIZZA. They are well famous for their hand tossed thin crust pizza. @ RM 33

Sanook (16)

In this bar, their firewood pizza is also one of their signature item that must not miss, home made thin crust with generous filling is always a must with beer while watching football. This is totally new flavour, weird by its name but taste good in your mouth.

Sanook (17)

Some of you might not like the sesame seed like me as I do not prefer the taste yet the aroma of lamb help me pair off the taste well. Sesame Honey Lamb Pizza @ RM35

Sanook (18)

Marie’s Crepe Suzette @ RM17 – Freshly pan fried french crepes flavored with creamy fresh orange juice and citrus zest. Orange zest taste might be a bit strong especially taste of orange skin taste is very visible but when comes to desert its hard for me to say no. crepes are thick in a mouthful bite are just nice and orange pairs it well yet a scoop of ice cream would me it perfect!

Sanook (19)

Every one went crazy of this Henry’s mud cake @ RM11. Serve pippin hot, small portion enough to satisfy your desert crave or end your dinner in style that mud cake is moist with warm chocolate in it.

Sanook (20)

After reading the post, might sound that I have like praised nearly everything, well, this is the Sanook Bistro that we are expecting as it never fail us with their consistant food quality as I have mention and the chef behind all these food are just amazing to make every portion right and perfect. As far as I know their new menu is amazing.

Good for you to give it a try.

Sometimes, when you want to hunt for food, every state also got their own popular food. As for last round long weekend holiday, some friend brought me to his hometown for Ipoh Food Hunt to eat some great food which is nearby Ipoh called Pusing (click here). After that, we head back to Ipoh town to hit on some great food recommended by them.

ipoh (1)

There is this one particular little stall hidden under this huge tree. Some called it Under the tree Chee Cheong Fun. Its so famous that in a day he do only a few hours business. Not because he is lansi, just that alot people hunt for his food.

ipoh (2)

This uncle a humble and cheerful guy had been running this little stall for more than 10 years and it had gain popularity among the locals.

ipoh (3)

One of the different style compare to Penang is, he have created his own special sauce.

ipoh (4)

And there are 2 types of chee cheong fun, one which is plain and one which is with mince meat if I am not mistaken.

ipoh (5)

So its pair up with another family run little coffee shop and both of them make the whole place packed up within minutes.

ipoh (7)

This is what is so different from Penang style as Penang we use ‘heh koh’ (prawn paste).

ipoh (8)

But in Ipoh, this uncle had created his own special gravy that shower upon the chee chong fun and according to my friend the gravy is made of pork bones and other great ingredients that make it so rich and sweet in taste. Add on with spicy green chili, brown sauce and some chili sauce just makes it perfect for afternoon tea time. RM2.50 per plate

Some people like my friend will need to have 2 plates at least to satisfy their crave. I would say, if you have not given it a try, it is certainly worth to try, consider this is one of the most famous Chee Cheong Fun in Ipoh.

Remark: you might like it or don like it. More like a love – hate relationship.

Operating hours: 2.30pm till finish (means while stock last)

ipoh (11)

Also I notice alot people order White Coffee here, find out that its a bit strong, foamy on the top and just nice to go for afternoon tea. RM2 if I am not mistaken.

Next is we have to go for what Ipoh is famous for where how white coffee started. Of course I was introduce by one of the best white coffee in Ipoh is located inside this coffee shop, Kedai Kopi Sun Yuan Foong.

ipoh (10)

A normal coffee shop that is packed with many people that usually comes here for breakfast, besides that, the Chee Cheong Fun I mention above, he will operate in this kopitiam in the morning from 8.30am till finish. (where usually finish around 11am)

ipoh (12)

Usually my friend will come here for breakfast and this coffee shop was recommended by 2 of my Ipoh friend already. Guess that it should be good!

ipoh (13)

This is the super star of all White Coffee, as it is in robust coffee that many of our locals will love, a bit thick in texture and for many coffee lovers, you will fall in love with this white coffee. I certainly would love to have 2 glass of this, but surely will hang over later as in yawn and fall asleep. – Recommneded!!!!!

ipoh (14)

This is what my friend will have for breakfast, hot white coffee and with this half boil egg with toast. .

ipoh (15)

Soft break like using the (bakery head brand) where you can find in pasar malam, toast to perfection and topple with this 2 half boil egg.

ipoh (16)

Besides all those white coffee, Ipoh also famous for its Ipoh Chicken Rice, as this is my very first shop I have visited when I first came to Ipoh is Restaurant Onn Kee. One of the reason last time my friend introduce me this shop was because many celebrities came by to this outlet to eat and that’s how I ended up here.

This is not only the restaurant avail as in this stretch of street there are 3 giant players in the area and this restaurant is one of it. Every one prefer different outlet and it really depends on your taste.

ipoh (17)

The crowd pour in non stop and the chef just non stop chopping on the chicken.

ipoh (18)

This is how busy the shop can be during long weekend. All shops are super crowded.

ipoh (19)

You will never want to miss the bean sprout in Ipoh as they are grown differently. According to my friend they are grown by using mineral water, therefore the bean spout in Ipoh is fat and juicy.

ipoh (20)

This is the Ipoh White Chicken (cantonese – Ipoh Nga Choi Kai).

ipoh (21)

Homemade pork and fish balls.

ipoh (22)

Silky smooth koay teow .. . .

Among 3 restaurant available in the area, this shop is my last choice, as the chicken texture and koay teow I do not really like it, but my friend prefer this shop.

Well, it depends on your individual taste as I prefer the one next to this shop. After your Chicken Rice, please do not miss one of the best Soya Bean (Funny Mountain Soya Bean – click here) which is just on the next street which is about 3 minutes walk. Total Damage was around RM 40 if I am not mistaken for a pax of 4
