I love travelling and one of the place I travel quite often few years back was Indonesia, then did stay there for about a month too till I ask my friends to bring me around the whole city and went for food hunting. Since then, its hard to find nice Indonesian food except Ayem Penyet which is one of my favorite that I find it similar to their local taste.  IR 1968 Indochine Restaurant and Bar.

Not until last week, a dinner was organise here by Lisa and Henry at Terrance Hock Choon that a newly build up area that operate not that long located at Jalan Ampang, which is a conversion of an old building to a few combination of restaurant that serve fine dining with a classic old building that provide a perfect ambiance to host a romantic dinner, corporate function or even events.

A few restaurant is in this place and what I have been told by my friend that the Japanese Restaurant Fukuharu serve pretty unique menu for the night, as the menu is a board with a limited choices (served fresh ingredient for the day) with chef’s special.

IR (3)

IR stands for Indonesian Restaurant which I got to know that is one of a famous restaurant that visited by many celebrities in Hong Kong and recently had branches a new outlet in Kuala Lumpur.

Through its great history that the restaurant had been founded as early as 1968 by Hudson’s grandfather operating their first outlet in Hong Kong then operate by his dad and now himself, the cuisine is serve with a hint of Chinese mix Indonesian as they are originally from Indonesia and operate in Hong Kong that the taste changes to suit local taste bud.

Let’s head up to the restaurant for a peek before dining.  . . It was decorated with a very romantic feel at the ground floor with pale white near transparent curtain hanging around the stair ways and candle light lit all the way up to the restaurant.

I love how the restaurant is decorated by painting black on the walls and ceiling, modern Chinese lantern is place up, filled with ashes wooden chairs and tables.

IR (7)

Lovely couples can be seated seated here, with the place is decorated perfectly with candles, laterns and dim oval, lights placed in between.

They used classic traddional china style porcelain . .  wish I can steal one back….:)

Again, I have visited some where ulu (suburb) again, Kota Damansara 2. To me its kinda far from KL all the way there but if you mention about the food quality, its worth everything. In that urban ulu place and if you are looking for a home cook with solid aromatic taste, this is the shop you must hunt for, Mum’s Seafood Noodle House.

Mums

Located in the heart of this urban ulu area which is a few doors away from this very famous The Wok restaurant.

Mums (2)

Its brand new in this area with just operating a few months old and not many people know about this great place.

Mums (3)

Offering alot of local delights.

Mums (5)

Let’s kick off with our very first meal of the night ‘Mum’s Fish Head Bee Hoon’ RM 7.80 and if you are looking for something light and flavorful, go for this, salty with the salty veggie and sour yet cook with milk till boil temperature is something to look for.

Mums (6)

‘Nyonya Chicken’ had been stir fried till the curry is a bit dry to ensure the flavor all soak into the soft tender chicken meat and to eat it along with rice, I can just enjoy this dish with a bowl of plain rice. RM12.80

Mums (7)

‘Mum’s Noodle Seafood Prawn Soup’ filled with big prawns, lala, squid and bamboo clamps and they are quite big in size and with the price charge on it, RM13.80, no complain at all.

Mums (8)

‘Ju Hu Char’ had been fried till very aromatic sweet with the meng kuang juice ooze out and blend well with the Ju Hu and it’s a bit sweet salty in taste that wrap with the veggie is taste so good. All of us keep taking big portion of it. RM10.80 – recommended

Mums (9)

I am a fan of squid especially when it is stuff with homemade ingredient like this ‘Stuff Squid with Prawns’ is very chewy on the meat, aromatic steam taste of the prawn when its stuff in there, end with their special salty sauce pour upon is given thumbs up by us. RM18.80

Mums (10)

This is how the fresh pranw ingredient are stuff in it, with the sauce to eat along with rice, yumm~

Mums (11)

I have eaten loh bak in KL a lot but to get the exact feel, its hard to find not until the very first discovery ends here for this time, with the price of RM8.80 (2 rolls) is all worth the price. Solid meat strip ingredient instead of mince meat, is to ensure when you bite it, you can enjoy the solid and aromatic of the meat instead of the mince when you put into your mouth all spread over. I would say one of the best ‘Loh Bak’ I have eaten so far in KL.

Mums (12)

‘Stir Fried Fish Head in Salted Egg Yolk’ RM16.80 is a highly recommended dish by me. Deep fried of the crispiness of the edge of the fish head yet been fried again in the wok with salty egg yolk and stick on all with the meat, very flavorful on the saltiness of the yolk and a bit of buttery taste, just perfect. Had 2 rounds of this as it was finish by us before others had a chance. Kekeke

Mums (13)

‘Stir Friend Prawn with Golden Garlic’ as the prawn is deep fried and then end with crispy deep fried garlic on top of the prawn with curry leaves is very savory. Sold prawn meant shows the sign of fresh prawn used and with the size like that, its satisfying.

Mums (14)

We were next hit by the look of something salty but then when it was put into our mouth, the spiciness had spread its power to entice on our taste bud yet the gravy to eat with rice, we can just walap it. ‘Bamboo Shell with Soy Sauce’ RM16.80

Mums (15)

When this was served, we were like, fuiyoh! So big..and very worry that…sei loh..how to finish so big, when the fan blow its aroma to us, we retune our worry and took the picture immediately as cant wait to taste it. After tasting it, thumbs up. Sweet mild yet spicy flavor is there, and I ended up keep taking a spoonful of curry and drink it like soup, eat along the white veggie. ‘Curry Fish Head’ *Market Price

Mums (16)

I do not like to eat Petai but this had change my taste wise on it. ‘Fried Prawns with Petai’ as the sambal fried on it, had make the petai taste very mild yet with come dry shrimp make it a bit salty and solid fresh prawns make it tasty. Something I enjoy too.

Mums (17)

‘Kam Hiong Fried Clamps’ is not bad too, with the amount cook in it, no complain.

Mums (18)

Tadaaaaaa…..The amazing cook, that make this all wonderful dish with her very own make over recipe is this very wonderful and friendly Grandma chef (as seen on the sign board) as she is a experience home cook and the family members thought that it would be a waste if only for own family to enjoy and they have converted the mom to the head chef now. Thanks to Ken for this invites and discovery in this urban ulu area again.

We enjoy the dish a lot and personally, I prefer this over Hot Wok. More strong in taste yet the price is quite reasonable. Definately I will revisit the place. Highly Recommended by me~
