Weather in Penang is crazy hot, as over the weekend I was there for a few functions and of course bringing the KL bloggers along following by my favourite shop especially for their Coconut Shake and Jelly. This shop might not well know to many people yet as mostly alot regular that come back for their drinks or through word of mouth. Good news is that I do not have to go all the way to Melacca for that famous Klebang Coconut Shake as now in Penang also offer something similar and I find it better.

joez (1)

One of their signature is their Coconut Jelly is whereby they started and at times I do make a take away in KL Central. Yap, they do have a small kiosk outlet in KL Central depature hall that sell their signature coconut jelly.

joez (2)

Back in Penang of course I often go for their 3 combo, young coconut drink, coconut shake and coconut Jelly which I rarely miss out.

joez (3)

Coconut Shake @ RM 3.80 comes with a scoop of ice cream.

joez (4)

Indeed its very freshing under the crazy hot weather, not too milky nor too sweet that comes to my liking, yet a well balance taste of both coconut flavour and milk that did not over power it.

A Recommended place for drinks or another favourite place of mine is Ice – Tingkap – traditional Indian Drink. Set back of this place is parking is a pain in the ass. If you are stopping by at the main road you are obstructing the whole traffic area. Usually I park opposite next to kaki kaki and walk over.

I believe many of you that head to Melacca/ Melaka will stop by at this famous mille crepe that is always pack with people (click here). Well, good news for many of us that now the famous cafe had expended its wings to KL and being their first branch, Nadeje now is open at 3 Two Square, PJ which is nearby Jaya 33.

Nadeje (1)

In the premises itself, the cafe is located inside one of the lot and if you are coming in thru Toyota Entrance, that would be the most ideal entrance to hunt for this cafe.

Nadeje (2)

I have heard some of my friends that they have to queue for quite a while and as long as 30-45 minutes for their cakes. I guess luck is on our side when we reach its only 2 person away and within 3  minutes we gotten our cakes. Its a weekday lunch. 🙂

Nadeje (5)

concept of their cafe in KL is totally different compare to their main Branch in Melaka. Its more contemporary design and seating are pretty limited with only 4-5 tables in door and another 3-5 more outdoor.

Nadeje (3)

In this cafe mostly are cakes and coffee are available, more like a tea time hunting ground or craving for dessert then this would be one of the option.

Nadeje (4)

Nadeje (6)

Not only that, as this round I notice that they have doughnut added into their range and as usual, there are many choices of crepes to hunt for.

Nadeje (7)

Nadeje (8)

Nadeje (9)

This is my crepes for taking away as usual I prefer their Original.

Well, people, now you need not drive all the way to Melaka to hunt for your favorite dessert shop as now they are open in this area for less than 10 days.

After saw some pictures posted on Jennifer’s Instagram, then on our lazy weekend, we decided to hunt this coffee place, since its nearby to my place. Located in Plaza Damas 3 (New section) that is located on the first floor. If you drive pass by the road daily, you would not have notice this place because of the road heading downwards.

I love how the owners play with their concepts. Very simple yet creative. If this outlet is in heritage area in Penang, it would have a superb response.

My cup of Latte, well presented with creamy froth, if the coffee taste is slightly stronger then it would taste better as currently being diluted with milk taste.

It has been a long long time since I last came back here and hunt for Chuan Chiew Bak Kut Teh in this area. Used to be one of my hang out spots when I was studying, till I have a few disappointed bak kut teh hunting around my housing area till have to come back here for a decent one.

bkt ss14 (1)

SS14 is already quite well know with a street filled with Bak Kut Teh with many offerings. Every shop have their very own customer base and down till which stall you prefer. As too many years back and little did I remember which one was the best and start off with 2nd outlet on the street which is Chuan Chiew.

bkt ss14 (2)

Early dinner it is as the uncle already busy preparing all his ingredient and cutting it off for waiting customer.

bkt ss14 (3)

To dine Bak Kut Teh of course the ambiance must be in Kopitiam Style ..

bkt ss14 (4)

2 types of soup base, one which is all the ingredient being boil along and another one is to mix it around.

bkt ss14 (5)

After mixture or order, and putting it into claypot, its left on this stove to boil till pippin hot.

bkt ss14 (6)

I quite like the Dry Bak Kut Teh here as its cook along with dry shrimp, taste of squid that make the slight saltiness and thick soy sauce to make it thick, along with chili padi to make it slightly spicy. Just perfect.

bkt ss14 (7)

My pippin hot claypot bak kut teh ..

bkt ss14 (8)

I have a mixture of meat, variety of parts, meat is not too tough yet cook till soft as i prefer. The sad part is always remember to order your needle mushroom to be separated if not the taste of it will over power the taste of the soup. As I order another portion without it. Soup base here is mild not so herbal which most of the locals prefer. Soup definitely can be refillable. I prefer mine to be strong in herbal taste but this is good enough to satisfy.

bkt ss14 (9)

Overall came up to RM61.20 for soup with portion of 4 and dry bak kut teh with 2 portion and 3 of us just whack it.

Hmmm, in Puchong certainly there are many places to hunt for food especially in Bandar Puteri. With a stone throw away, you can easily find any eatery shop. The question is how many outlet serve nice food? When I was staying in Puchong few months back, then craving for Bak Kut Teh, asked my brother where is the nicest one and he brought me to this place which is quite deep inside Puchong. Apparently Yap Chuan Bak Kut Teh is one of a famous one around the area . .

yap chuan (1)

Located in 2 rows of busy shop house then reach this bright red orangy sign board on the corner unit.

yap chuan (2)

The tradition of ordering BKT is one pot with soup base and another one dry version.

yap chuan (3)

Right after the BKT being serve in pippin hot, smell of it is pretty good with herbal smell and ingredient is pretty generous by the owner. Trying out to sip the soup turns out to be good, slightly strong in herbal taste as the soup is not too thick, just nice to my liking and ingredient been cook to perfection. A perfect combination with my rice and I drank a lot of the soup.

yap chuan (4)

Just love the spare parts that they put along and look at the intestine, multi layered chewy and good!

yap chuan (5)

Next is the Dry BKT, being cook in thick soy sauce, little sweeten yet the gravy being cook till all well coated onto the pork ended with mild herb taste. I find that both are pretty good and just that the dry version stood out better.

Overall, I would find this BKT shop are pretty good that can go on par with those at Klang and I am sure that this Yap Chuan Bak Kut Teh is one of the best can be found in Puchong. Set back is, its too far for me now as I have move to Segambut. I guess I have to start hunting BKT around these area.

Bangsarbabe also wrote about this outlet. (click here)

One of the latest trend I heard my Penang friend talking about in our Watsapp chatroom is Hui Lau Shan which is one of a famous Hong Kong Desert had finally landed in Penang, being located inside Gurney Plaza which is one of the prime spot in Penang to start off with.  Whenvever I travel to in Hong Kong last time, I will make myself not to miss out this great desert. First stop after landed is Hui Lau Shan and finally make its mark into the island.

Hui Lau Shan (1)

Before Penang, it hit KL shore where this franchise open its very first outlet in 1-Utama and we instantly went to try out. (click here). In Penang its much different compare to the KL one’s as the outlet is bigger, more spacious and there is a line we have to queue which is longer than KL.

Hui Lau Shan (2)

Hui Lau Shan in Penang just open its door for less than a month and it had been well received by the locals.

Hui Lau Shan (3)

These are the few that I will always order or the recommended. . . Fresh Mango Mochi @ RM 4.90 for 3 pieces

Hui Lau Shan (4)

Mango with Pamelo

Hui Lau Shan (5)

Mango Icey Sweetie Ball @ RM 11.90

Apparently, I find that Penang version is must tasty than the ones in KL, in terms of mango and texture of it. Wonder is it the same owner? For more other flavours click here

If you have not tried this superb Mango desert, do drop by . .Recommended!
