I used to travel to Jakarta quite frequent and did event stay there for a month leisure and business few years back. Since then my Indonesian friend brought me tried out a lot of their local street food and it just taste good. Since then I am back here, the only shop that taste near to that country so far that I have tried is Waroeng Penyet and Ole Ole Bali but now, there is another restaurant called Little Warong Jakarta that newly open about a month ago that cater authentic Jakarta food that more towards Javanese.

Jakarta

The restaurant is located nearby KFC and it wasn’t hard to find afterall..

The whole place was decorated in more like a old classic kopitiam style as according to Remus, most of the shop that operate good food is have something similiar to this kind of ambiance. The wall are covered with many pictures of Jakarta from olden to modern days.

Last week, my colleague introduces me to this place where they often have their lunch around this area. They visited this place Yang Kee Beef Noodle quite often and the price charge is quite reasonable. One of their famous signature dish is the Beef Noodle and upon that, what I read from a few bloggers that, ‘Yong Tau Fu’ is also one of their specialties that sell very fast.

I was there during lunch time and expected to wait a while as the crowd starts to pour in, then when comes to ordering, I would always prefer beef noodle in soup version as that’s the best way to test on it with strong sweet aromatic soup base is the best, then my colleague help me to order and recommended to go for their egg noodle as its freshly made.

yang kee (2)

‘Mixed Soup Beef Noodle’ @ RM4.30 for small and RM4.80 for large

My bowl of mixed soup beef egg noodle, that tastes quite different from Penang’s taste, as the egg noodle is definitely a great recommendation, that it is fine and quite springy while eating it, soup base is a bit thick that serve along with beef ball, beef slices and some of other beef spare parts. Its not bad, but I still prefer Penang’s version.

yang kee (3)

‘Stewed Beef Brisket with Radish’ had been stewed for quite some time, but I prefer the meat to be softer a bit as if when add into mouth will melt into slices. RM 4.50

yang kee (4)

‘Dry Beef Noodle’ @ RM 4.50

yang kee

One that catches my attention is that, this is the first time I come across that beef noodle in dry version with minced meat add on. The gravy that added on is a bit spicy, salty but when mixed with it, the taste is quite alright.

According to my friend, they said the beef ball here is hand beaten by the chef that is why the beef ball is so springy like what we always see in TVD drama series or in TV.

Overall, three of us did have a nice lunch while chatting all the way. Worth a try if you are around the area, around the area there are not much parking space and just wish for your luck on that day.

I still remember when I was a kid, I used to follow my mom to wet market in the morning, and after that will head for breakfast with lots of hawker stall to choose from, not until that I have been reading about Imbi market about variety of food there with one of famous stall that stands out among the rest is this very traditional, Hainan stall which serve half boil egg, roti khawin, Signature KOPI that make the whole market so merry. Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea

It was not until last Sunday, woke up early and my friend drag me to this market after she knows I have been talking about it for quite some time. First time being here and we reach there around 11am and most of the food stalls are like ready to pack up, as they usually operate till 12pm.

Imbi

After walking in, the first stall surely caught my attention, as I do not know what food it is and a few uncle are buying it, seeing it with a few ingredient to mix and match.

Imbi (2)

Most of them are made from bean curd, bean curd skin . . . .

Imbi (3)

and specially bean curd roll till a stick. The uncle sell it a mix and match for small RM3 then if you want bigger portion its RM4 and RM5. He do sell it seperately.

Imbi (4)

My mix and match which is everything is available, then add in chili sauce and the best is mustard sauce!

I just love the taste of it with the bean curd is soft and juicy after soaking in the soup base to get the aroma, the pork taste so soft and chewy dipping with mustard and chili taste good as I find the taste is unique but I am loving it. Recommended if you are adventurous.

Imbi (5)

Then I walk to the other end, saw this auntie sitting there and frying ‘Yau Char Kway’ or ‘You Tiao’ that looks so tempting that just fried hot from the wok.  Then the auntie so funny, as she saw me holding a camera and ask her husband faster act a ‘posey la’ (make a pose) and the uncle so shy and said don wan la, yet the auntie asking him a few times.

Imbi (6)

Deep fried ‘You Tiao’ that just came out from the wok, with outer layer so crispy and soft in the inside, if I were given a glass of warm soya bean would be just perfect. RM0.70 each.

Imbi (7)

Besides that, most of the stalls that sell Yau Char Kway do sell ‘Ham Chee Peng’ which is another type of Chinese kuih that insert with sweet, salty, red bean paste in it.

Last trip of back to Penang, Seh Poh Kio the first thing when I reach back after dumping all my luaguage back at home and went to pick up my friend, heading to Seh Poh Kio for supper. There are very limited places in Penang to hunt for Chinese food during at night after 12am. I was craving for burger that night around 1.30am.

The business of this stall its good at most of the time, depends on your luck when you dropping by that you have to wait long or wait for a while. Luckily on that night I did not wait for long as I was the 3rd person only.

The stall owner is the one leg kick person. Cook, wrap, and sell

My order was ‘Chicken Burger Special’ (Pg version means with Cheese and egg) as I love the version here as one of the best, well cook that preserve the taste of the slice of the chicken meat and well wrap around with the ngam ngam cook egg and top with a slice of cheese and cover with a layer of mayonnaise. RM4 if not mistaken.

Besides this stall that I usually enjoy eating from the thai hawker stall behind it was the ‘Fried Tomyam Maggie Mee’ a style of its own, not too spicy yet soury and filled with mini seafood is a taste that I am missing but on that night, the taste had change not as nice as it used to be. Still not bad but not as craving taste already. RM5

As I always hunt for desert to eat and my friend been telling me this place for quite sometime and finally, manage to make some time out of it to try out. Located in the heart of SS15 filled with students, most business would be good and this stall is located on level 1 of the shop lot which I believe on weekdays, the crowd is a lot but this round I went on weekend, and its full house too.

Taiwan desert is always in my mind just do not know why. Maybe is because the input I had in my mind was Taiwan Street food. hrmm…

The ingrediants that are made of for their desert.

A simple nice and cosy area which they have indoor and outdoor for smokers too.

In this shop is famous for its signature item which is you pick and choose. There are 3 steps for you to do that with the price of RM4.90 each.

1) Choose your favorite (consist of 3 flavour)
2) Choose your topping (5 types to choose from)

Or if you are lazy, you can directly choose their bestseller desert. RM5.50

After ordering and paying, you will be given this Beeping UFO, which looks like landmine. Once your desert is ready, it will beep.
This is my order with the base of ‘Grass Jelly and Taro Balls’ which is the bestseller. RM4.90

Then you will be given condense milk to be pour upon. I love this desert very much, tasty as it look, soft grass jelly and very flavorful. A perfect desert to be hunt for.

My friend she order, the ‘Signature Desert’ which the most people ordering and serve with grass jelly as the base, peanut and red bean. Both also taste about the same but for a starter this would be a good choice to start off with. A great combination flavor when eat together. RM5.50

Certainly I am coming back to this shop to try out their other desert like soya bean with yau char koay which is one of the famous item there too. Definitely recommending to desert lover.

Would be advisable to share if you come after your dinner, its quite a big portion. Price wise of course is a bargain for the size you are getting as I have underestimate it and I was very full after finish the whole bowl.
