MCO had made alot of business evolve. Much later on the phase 4 of MCO, starting to see a few of my favourite restaurant start to do delivery (read here past experience). Then saw Roost at Bangsar (sit right above used to be corner unit of Chawan, Bangsar) having a delivery menu for limited period of time. I got excited and look through their menu. Roost in Bangsar, KL is actually one of a very few restaurants that work with local farmers or using local fresh ingredients to prep on food.

farm to table

also they are actually quite generous, for first 10km is free delivery. So for my order I just top up just a little bit. As look at the  menu, we were quite greedy and for 3 pax we order a set for 4 @ RM 250.

comes with :

  1. Falafel with Salted Yogurt & Coriander
  2. Hummus & Kalamata Olives
  3. Mushroom Truffle Arancini (one of their signature item)
  4. Pumpkin Ravioli with Spinach & Almond
  5. Chicken Schnitzel with Cauliflower Rice & Tomato Jam
  6. Snapper with Borlotti Beans
  7. Braised Spanish Beef Cheeks with Mash Potato
  8. Dark Chocolate Gateau with nuts
  9. Baked Local Figs with Cream Cheese (fig was not fresh that day, I opted for dark chocolate). All their dishes are very generous with ingredients.

local ingredients

We were too ambitious, as it was too much for us. A set for 4 is more like for 5 pax easily.

Roost Bangsar (3)

Pumpkin Ravioli with Spinach & Almond is one of the main highlight in the list. Creamy to my liking as pumkin taste is quite prominent. Ravioli not too thick, yet soft and just perfect in size. Easily there are 5-6 medium size ravioli in it. I dip it with their fresh bread. Taste pretty good too as I add in a huge slab of butter myself.

Roost Bangsar (4)

Roost Bangsar (5)

Falafel with Salted Yogurt & Coriander is done to perfection. The spices and the softness of the filling in it yet dipping with the clear sour salted yogurt and coriander gives the fresh flavour it needs. a well balance entry.

Roost Bangsar (6)

The simplest way to enjoy hummus is with their chef made bread. A big dip on the top and just put into your mouth.

Roost Bangsar (7)

Chicken Schnitzel with Cauliflower Rice & Tomato Jam Sort of healthy kind of dish but the suprise of this dish is when you squeeze the lemon onto pf the chicken schnitzel then you dip it with their tomato jam. A whole new of flavour. Love it.

Roost Bangsar (8)

This dish Braised Spanish Beef Cheeks with Mash Potato is like a dish that near melts in your mouth. The beef cheeks is so soft and juicy. Mash potato is creamy, light and airy. A little salty for my liking but did feed back to the restaurant, it could also perhaps, if not have been cooking quite a while at home where i am using a little of brown sugar and pinch of salt, and when comes a heavy flavour gives you a notch. Been a while to enjoy such a strong flavour.

I guess our palate are healthy now.

Roost Bangsar (9)

Roost Bangsar (11)

Mushroom Truffle Arancini – is one of their signature entree dish.

Roost Bangsar (12)

The first dish that we finish is Snapper with Borlotti Beans. Fish is fresh, and fried to just nice. A sea of beans that keeps you digging in especially with bread.

Roost Bangsar (13)

Got a complimentary chocolate cookie with seasalt. We felt that if this is microwave for 5 second then top a scoop of ice cream, then it is perfecto!

Roost Bangsar (14)

a meal that we are truely satisfied after a long MCO lock in.

Roost Bangsar

AS the finale is as good as in the outlet. I forgot to put the dessert in my fridge as when comes to desert only realise it is melting. Their dessert so far never disappoint. A perfect ending. Soft, creamy chocolate cake, with pistachio nuts and a bed of chocolate soil is a great combination.

I did came to this restaurant before it changed to Roost and visited this restaurant during an event that was held there recently. Impress with their food and decided to host my friends birthday dinner in this place. Got to further understand this place where the owner uses fresh local produce to cook their dishes to showcase minimalist, rustic, with a final touch into modern European cuisine, hence the tag line  “From Farm to Fork”.

Roost (4)

Love their open concept kitchen where you get to see their chef in action.

Roost (5)

Roost (6)

Roost (6.1)

It is rather a simple 2-page menu comprises of snacks, appetizers, pasta, mains, burger and dessert where they have just recently changed their menu from 15th April 2016 onwards.

Roost (7)

Start off by ordering some of their cocktails and find it decent only where if you love strong taste of it, then you might have to consider skipping their cocktail series.

Roost (8)

Ordered one of my favourite to go with is where Liver Mousse Pate @ Rm 22. Love its smooth spread of pate that do not have the strong smell of chicken liver and it is creamy. add on with their wild honey and sea salt enhance the taste of it. I ended up having this whole deck myself and other another 2 more for the rest to try.

Roost (9)

Next while waiting for the rest to arrive, we were introduce to order Polenta Fries @ RM 16. Love it soft polenta that have been fried well that remains inside still soft with mild chewy and aromatic.

Roost (10)

One of their signature is Duck BreastRM25 – smoked, cauliflower, pomogranate. One of my friends favourite.

Roost (13)

This salad was gone in 60 seconds as you have the unique sourish taste, fresh pomegranate top on it and it is something to start off with.

Roost (11)

Mangrove Crab Ravioli @ RM 38 – crab bisque and crab.

Roost (14)

Love the unique taste of it as it feels like lobster bisque had a twist influence from Thai. Sourish enough to entice our toungue and one of a perfect soup to start off with. Shell Fish Soup @ RM 26

Roost (15)

Seabass @ RM 38 – beetroot Risotto.

Roost (16)

Free Range Chicken Breast @ RM 38 – onion puree, king oyster. – soft and juicy meat.

Roost (17)

This is one of my favourite for their pasta range is this Duck Ragout Pappardelle @ RM 32 with fresh cheese.

Roost (18)

Farmed Red Prawn Linguine  @ RM 40 – semi dried tomato, gremolata

Roost (19)

Angus Rib Eye @ RM 76 (200g) is one of the better choice for the night. Grilled to perfection that their medium well is done to my liking.

Roost (20)

This was also recommended by their manager is this Baby Lamb Cutlet @ RM 52 – Peas , Zucchini

Roost (21)

Veal Cheek @ RM 72 – mash and beets. super soft mash potato with 2 super soft veal.

Roost (22)

Desserts we ordered all which is Chocolate Gateau – Pineapple coulis , lemongrass @ RM 24.

Roost (23)

Cheesecake @ RM 24 – rose apple, crunch

Roost (25)

One of my favourite where currently I rate one of the best that I have come across is their super wobbly Panna Cotta – coconut & passion fruit @ RM 20. So soft that is quite  near to taufufa yet it is a clever combination of chocolate crush powder with passion fruit to balance up the sourness and sweetness of it.

Roost (24)

If you prefer some where cozy and slightly digging more into your pocket, then Roost will be one of a choice you can consider as their food is good!. We nearly ordered the whole menu as most of the recommended dish by the manager, we have ordered 80% of it where our bill is standing around RM1,200.

If you are lost and I would recommend this few you to be less headache: Liver Mousse Pate, Polenta Fries, Shell Fish Soup, Angus Rib Eye,  Duck Ragout Pappardelle & Panna Cotta

Roost Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Was over on a weekend that I join KetchUp for their cafe hopping series at Bangsar. The four cafe that I check out on that day are Pulp, Roost, Hanbing and Ashley by Living Food.

What about Ketchup?

Great times, here’s looking forward to what KetchUp has in store soon. For now, do check out their website at www.ketchup.com.my as well as their Facebook page.

For the first stop, we head one of the earliest coffee trend where they have also make a huge impact in the coffee scene in KL is this :

  1. PULP by Papa Palheta

KetchUp's (1)

Along in here also have learnt that they are specialize in specialty coffee along with an authorize distributor for a few well known coffee equipment and competition grade mugs and cups.

KetchUp's (2)

In this area, they are kind enough to offer you free sampling of single origins, where for you to identify on your taste palate.

2. Roost at Bangsar

KetchUp's (7)

This is one of a restaurant that have made it into my list for next upcoming restaurant to try as I love their concept where they serve everything fresh from Farm to tables. This concept have been widely used by many chef in Australia and it is great to see now Malaysian scene is picking it up and of course there are challenges in sourcing them.

KetchUp's (8)

It is a space also well know to cater for private functions where then you gave them a budget and they can customize a special menu for you.

KetchUp's (9)

KetchUp's (10)

Cozy place to be and their food presentation is simple and nice. Quality of food where you can expect your mains is ranging from RM 17-RM80 which I think is quite reasonable. Finally, I have found the best Panna Cotta in KL where I got so influence by those chef in cooking and reality shows that panna cotta must be wobbly. It is so soft, slight creamy and fragrant. (a must try)

KetchUp's (11)

They will be launching their new menu on 5th April, so do check them out.

4. Ashleys by Living Food

KetchUp's (17)

For healthy food option, I love Ashley’s concept on how they run this restaurant with alot of careful thoughts in it, where to cater healthy food for quite a niche market. Every ingredient that they use are all near premium qualities where to cook the flavours out along with chef special.

KetchUp's (16)

Their quinoa sushi rolls is awesome, where it is healthy yet get to enjoy Japanese taste in it. It is another restaurant that worth to explore as everything is made in that kitchen.
