Pipers (1)

Hidden in high rise residential, smack this few restaurant and bar that operate in Mont Kiara residence area and you will be surprise on what you will discover. One of them is this lovely restaurant & bar – Pipers. If you are around the area, you would not notice this building as it is pretty camoflush with the rest of the residential area or more like a club house, but its actually a public area.

Pipers (2)

Previously was known as another name and now under this new management they have switch it to Pipers.

Pipers (3)

Its more like a neighbourhood bar that gives you some quiet space that you wanna chill with nice background music and personal touch of the bar tender. Not only that, they do have live band playing on Thursday – Saturday. Best option is to go for their bottle beer.

Pipers (6)

Food menu is rather simple with a few pages to flick around. Price here I would say slightly expensive for this kind of ambiance.

Pipers (9)

Tried their Crispy Calamari with Bali Hai sambal @ RM22. Seldom I would really like appetizer or this might look normal. One of the taste that makes this pretty good is chef own made Bali Hai Sambal as the taste of the sauce is light lime sour and spicy end. The rings of calamari is fried to perfection that its crispy on the outside yet the meat still maintain moist.

Pipers (10)

Thai Style Crab & Avocado Stack with creamy Lemon Dressing @ RM23. Presentation looks awesome, that filled with top layer creamy lemon dressing, then finely cut tomato, a layer of fresh season crabmeat with thai sauce and avocado base. Among so many starters, this is one of a kick ass. Slighltly creamy  and all aroma burst into flavor in the first bite, you can taste on the pale lemon taste yet freshness of crab meat and avocado.

Pipers (11)

Wild Mushroom Salad with Mizuna & Crispy Noodles @ RM24

Pipers (12)

Pan Seared Foie Gras & Grilled Eel on Daikon bed with Truffle Teriyaki Sauce @ RM45. A well balance dish and not too salty. Foie gras is fried to perfection that one side layer is slightly crisp and inside is so soft till nearly melt in my tongue. Eel been added to add on some mouthful bite of meat.

Pipers (13)

1) Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio @ RM 32

2) Asparagus Risotto @ RM28

3) Slow Braised LAmb Shank @ RM 45

Pipers (14)

1) Duck Confit with Miso Mash potato and Onion JAm @ RM 33

2) Beer Battered Fish Fillet Seabass with Mango Salsa @ RM 33

Pipers (15)

Their Happy Hour is pretty worth it, buy 1 bucket free 1 bucket. Check em out!

Crème Brulee

Overall, their starters do kick ass. Their main and dessert still need rooms for improvement. Believe that the chef is master in sauces as all his sauces is well balance and really really good.

To get good Indonesian food locally in Malaysia is not easy. Found good ones yet the price is slightly high and not till recently, found out one outlet Restaurant Waroeng Oma that serve authentic Javanese Food that is pretty good, located in Sunway Mentari. We order quite a lot and did not realise that the owner is sitting just right there and she came to our table and greet us. Along that, get to know she is from Indonesia and this outlet is a compilation of recepi.

java (1)

this outlet is pretty easy to find as its facing the main road and few doors away from McD.

java (2)

Then the owner told us, if we love spicy food we should try their own homemade sambal. 3 types available and really depends your kind of preference and taste. The first one is sour mild spicy, middle one is more aromatic spice taste with spicinesss kicks in after a few bite and last one with fiery red, that doesnt look very spicy yet we are wrong, it gives the after spiciness too.

java (3)

Tried out with their Soto Ayam and turns out to be good,  that came out the soup already pass our criteria that to be yellowish that can be done in 2 version, lontong or vermicelli. Served with hard-boiled eggs, chicken slices and bean sprout, turns out to be good and quite authentic. Then I added their fiery red sambal in to make it extra kick. Remark, do not put too much as its really spicy.

java (4)

How can I resist Bakso, with the soup is serve pippin hot chewy springy beef balls that goes along with the soup.

java (5)

Ayam Bakar is another version of their food, that its being grill till some parts are slightly burnt as it is and to eat with this, must eat along with their fiery red sambal.

java (6)

Ayam Goreng Penyet, does comes with rice but we told her we did not want it cuz we are ordering more food to try out. Live up the expectation of look and taste hail all they way from Indonesia, well season and fried. We ended up order another 2 more portion. – Recommended!

java (7)

This Fried Fish(I have forgotten what is the exact name) is introduce by the owner too, its fresh and the meat is soft yet  its pretty huge. For those who don really take chicken meat with fish is the option, then this would be recommended!

java (8)

Nasi Uduk was highly recommended by the owner and we ordered that. True enough, it surprise us with the fragrant santan rice top with egg slices, with the little side dish that compliments well with it and best of all is the chicken been season to perfection that its very fragrant with light ginger and fried till crisp. Top of that with crunchy flakes to make it compliments better.

java (9)

Their ABC special is presented very colourful with the syrup taste very unique. 😀

As I went back early for this dining and I must say, for CHEAP authentic Indonesian food, this is the place to be. Their main range from RM6.50-RM12. Cheap right, I plan to visit this outlet soon again along with the awesome Martabak Manis(click here) not to be miss. Highly Recommended outlet~

One of the latest addtion to the list is my best friend opening a Nyonya food at Pulau Tikus. Location is not hard to find as it is located directly opposite Lanchia Holdings (2nd hand car reseller) – Burma Road.

home chef garden (1)

Restaurant Homes Chef Garden – Famous Traditional Chinese Home’s Recipes by the name itself already know its a homecook style version which is my friend’s mom is the main chef behind the whole cooking. Her mom inherit the recepi from the family and pass down and now, we are able to enjoy good home cook food mostly on nyonya style. Manage to pop by on my last trip back to Penang as this outlet just operated less than a month and already gaining popularity to family crowd.

home chef garden (2)

Operating two shoplot and that creates ample of dining space and for families that wanted to have slightly more private section, the restaurant do offer two table right at the top corner.

home chef garden (3)

home chef garden (4)

Selection and price in here are pretty decent. As my friend is working on the day, so we skip the menu and ask her to shower us her best dish, and she scolded me, nearly everything is good as its homecook version. I was like *ohhh then I requested what is best for the day.

home chef garden (5)

Here it comes with our first dish. Tophat (Pai Tee) @ RM 4.80. Add on with jiu hu char top with crispy garlic and freshly fried base. Eat it while is fresh as I did leave my second one for quite a while, as its not crips anymore, become sligtly soggy after the jiu hu char create some water in it. I munch the whole thing in one bite and taste good, best of all must add on the sambal to add in extra kick.

home chef garden (6)

Inchi Kabin @ RM 17

home chef garden (7)

Typical Jiu Hu Char ingredients must be finely slice or chop and not over cook yet can still bite on the sengkuang and moist upon serving. Just as how I like it.  RM 18

home chef garden (8)

Pork lover must not miss this. Too Kha Chor cook to perfection that the fats and meat are soft and juicy yet the taste of it is awesome. Slightly strong in vinegar taste yet pair it well with my rice. Highly recommended! @ RM 15

home chef garden (9)

I used to love this alot as I cant take too much of it as I am allergy to the combination. Kiam Chai Ark (salted vegie Duck soup) its a very well balance soup, with sourish taste, slightly pepper spicy and soup is strong in salted vegie taste. Love it. @ RM 17

home chef garden (10)

Too Thor Thng Penang version is more towards white pepper spicy as she added in small little pepper balls to cook along, with pork to make the soup taste sweet and too thor is wash clean without the strong musk taste. Dipping with some soy sauce and chew it just nice. @ RM 15

home chef garden (11)

Prawn Coconut Milk is something new to me, shower with creamy coconut gravy and fresh chewy prawns with bitter gourd taste is just unique and good. @ RM 15

home chef garden (12)

Steam Fish is one of the fast moving product on the meal as the soup base is sourish enough to make the girls take more and fine chopping garlic cook along and the fish is fresh. @ RM 38

home chef garden (13)

Kai Lan with Salted fish @ RM 14

home chef garden (14)

I don really like to eat this desert but I must rate it as Super star of the desert is this Bur Bur Cha Cha/Bubur chacha. One of the best I have come across so far, not too creamy in coconut taste yet  ingredients like taro, sweet potato, carrot and some other items being boil till its near soft. Perfect and its cook fresh on every dining sessions with limited quantity.

If you do plan to dine there, remember to call in and reserve x amount of bowls you need. We were lucky as these were the last 2 bowls. As she have many orders specially to take away for this desert only. – Highly Recommended!

home chef garden (15)

Here we are all of us enjoying a great meal at my friends place. Total bill came out about RM 180 which is reasonable.

If you are lazy to cook and plan to enjoy home cook food, definitely here is one of the place to recommend.

One of my favourite place that I used to hang out in Jakarta when I was based there quite a while is Menteng. Supper spot there is like those few particular place that must drop by or my friend often feed me along as they know I just love their food.

Menteng is slightly off from Jakarta City it self, not too far yet is about 15 minutes away only for night drive. If you are talking about day time traffic easily 30-45 minutes?

menteng (1)

Menteng street food or hawker center is rather famous to the locals yet slightly commercialize too as its located not too far from the city and offer variety of local hawker food that I love. Its actually one of my favourite hawker area for night spot in Jakarta

menteng (2)

Of course while you are seating in this busy hawker center, please beware on your personal belongings. . .

menteng (3)

Variety of local food you can hunt for as I always eat those usuals. ..

menteng (4)

Their local hawker food with cute little cart all stack by side by side and people here are very harmony, as they help each other in their business and lend a helping hand to serve and order.

menteng (5)

My bakso soup.

menteng (6)

If you want some challenge in your food, add in their super spicy chili sauce as only a 2 spoon full is enough to make me drench in sweat.

menteng (7)

Nasi Goreng Gila – (direct translation – Crazy Fried Rice) as they have lots of ingredient, whereby it means, what ever ingredient they have on their cart, they just cook everything along in it. One of my favourite too. RP7000 – RM 2.30

menteng (8)

Then my sate that I will not miss which is totally different from Malaysia version especially with the seasoning and the gravy that added on.

menteng (9)

Sate Kicap (Soy Sate)  is usually my favourite and add on with their local sambal. slightly sweet as on their soy sauce, thick in gravy with their own mixture and sambal kicks the flavour up on spicy side. I usually order in mutton.

menteng (10)

My all time favourite is roti bakar with cheeze and chocolate rice. Just awesome as some of you might find it sweet, yet this is one of the best toast I come accross, heavy for supper? NOpe as you will fall in love with it.

menteng (11)

menteng (12)

You will have a street band playing for you, as they go around tables. You can just tip them any amount you wish.

This place is totally new to me as Nicole told me she is gonna bring me to her favourite nasi lemak stall in Uptown I was like, “huh, there got famous Nasi Lemak one meh?” she said yes! just meet her there and I could not even remember there was one located along the stretch of HSBC. Have not met her in ages as she is busy travelling around and its a great to see her again. Village Park Nasi Lemak is one of a famous nasi lemak that gain huge popularity.

village park (1)

It is a place surely to  impress and I was here at lunch time. Its chaotic in Uptown as to find a parking spot at this time is your worst Nightmare!!! The only choices is to double park and being risk of either being kena Saman or Tow away. Be sure that you are there to monitor your car. I have seen a group of people came out from a restaurant and looking for their car as I saw their car got tow away.

village park (2)

Its amazing to see how this shop got huge coverage on media and not only that. As behind the payment counter you can see some celebrity and even our PM, ex PM Tun Dr Mahatir and many others came here to dine before.

village park (3)

Well, parking is not only the thing you have to be concern at as inside the shop is also chaotic, as the queue on this rice counter had build to outside and customers are pouring in.

village park (4)

Look at the Ayam goreng is just so tempting.

village park (5)

and my friend told me this is one of a must have!

village park (6)

Prices are slightly a bit more expensive for a plate of nasi lemak cuz you are dining in a restaurant.

village park (7)

This is how full house it would be and many other people behind me are waiting too.

village park (8)

This is a portion that according to my friend their signature ‘Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng’ @ RM 8. Something simple yet delightful, as rice is fragrant with light santan taste, fried chicken is nice and I would love to have mine with the extra crispy left over from the fried wok. Sambal is not bad as I prefer it to be more spicy and I was told that it used to be spicy and due to general taste bud, they have tone it down.

village park (9)

Kangkung Belacan order extra for side dish.

If you start comparing, I would compare it in this way, as Village Park Nasi Lemak they are cheaper than any malls restaurant that have to offer and taste much better or one of the best so far. If you compare with the makcik pakcik little stall on the road side, cant be comparable as those are street food category and of course their price is much cheaper and you can find a few stalls that taste better than them.

As this place is not that far from my place, I find that the price and quality is pretty decent. Been returning for couple of times already. 🙂

One of the coffee shop or kopitiam that I used to visit very often is Lee Huat Cafe that had been here that make its name to many Penang people on the good food for breakfast. The place open as early as 6am with 50% of the stall already start operating and the rest slowly starting off. By 7.30am most of the stall would have been operating.

Most of the stalls here are pretty well known for its good taste and quality. Of course there are a few ones that are more famous.

Lee Huat (1)

Well, it had been ages since I last visited this place which I think more than 10 years ago. So before heading our journey to Cameron Highlands my friends they all decided to stop by here for breakfast. Reach here about 6.30am

Lee Huat (2)

Well, of course Penangnites doesnt wake up that early as this is what we can expect the whole kopitiam to be pretty empty.

Lee Huat (3)

Many options are available and depends what kind of food you prefer in early morning. .

Lee Huat (4)

Still after all these  years, Curry Mee still one of the famous one that will be super busy as the sun is rising.

Lee Huat (5)

Lee Huat (6)

One of the items that not many places you can find this any more which is Oyster Porridge used to be very famous also as I am not too sure about now ..

Lee Huat (7)

The rest order Chicken Rice in such early morning. . Siau liau . . RM 4

Lee Huat (8)

Turns out to be pretty good though with the chicken meat is moist and aromatic and the skin is pretty good, not really a white rice as it had been cook along with a bit of chicken oil.

Lee Huat (9)

This is what I have for my breakfast, normal toast and half boil egg with a cup of hot Kopi . .

Lee Huat (10)

Loh Mee turns out to be good too with its gravy meant to be starchy and thick, add on with the sambal makes it more perfect.

Lee Huat (11)

I still love Penang version of Wantan Mee because comes with fried wanton along. Noodle is quite springy that makes it no comment and of course lots of char siew would be good. . .

I sure do not mind wake up early and come try other items in this Kopitiam again. . .Hmmm . . I think I should do it again . .:D, for travellers if you are looking for some hawker center to eat for breakfast, certainly here would be one of the place to recommend. 🙂

Parking is very limited around the area and happy hunting for parking space.
