Satay Kajang seems to be one of the most famous street food that most of us can associated to. I am sure there are plenty of Satay Kajang out there and there is this particular stall when @broughtup2share told me I must visit! Willy Satay is one of their favourite satay stall.

True enough, I must agree with them that, for the first time in my life, I have seen a sate business which is soo good that it needs 5 bbq pit. Fully operating yet there are not many customer in the food court. Apparently, they are famous for both tapau and dine in. The only other 5 pit I am seeing is this famous roti canai at Klang, which also running with 5 roti canai pit  – restaurant IV at Klang

What I have read that they have been in sate business 12 years ago at only a small road side stall. Over the years they have gain huge loyal customer to be where they are today.

One of the famous Malaysian street food yet you have to go all the way to Kajang. These are the famous charcoal satay in Kajang. I am sure that every satay seller do have their own special marination or recipe in place.

But theirs, is another level. The marination and the kind of spice mixture that makes the aroma of the sata so fragrant and flavorful is a whole new level.

After burning in the bbq pit. the meat is crystalize glaze yet look juicy inside out.

willy satay kajang (12)

The meat here is slightly chunkier compare to the ones I had previously. My usual order to test a stall out are:

  1. 5 x chicken
  2. 5 x beef
  3. 5 x chicken

Satay sauce or peanut sauce here is slightly diluted but do have its own taste. I believe that the satay itself is already punch with flavour that you need not mix with the peanut sauce.

All the satay sticks are flavourful by its own. A good combination yet the only thing to highlight is that if you are taking the lamb, it is slightly tough on meat and gamey in taste. Those of you do not like lamb taste, this might turn you off. However, eaters like me, must have the gamey taste and we enjoy it.

To mark this place is quite easy. You see the place punch out the most smoke, then you know you are nearby the stall. I am sure there are alot other great satay stalls in Kajang. Could Willy satay be one of the best Satay in Kajang or best satay in KL? Why not you guys share with me where is your favourite satay in Kajang?

I have tried a few satay in Kajang like :

I have always miss Indonesian food, especially on their street style. When I was there often few years back, there are a few things I will always eat, their sate, roti bakar and a few more. Guess what? Recently I found a place that sell one of my favorite savory originate from there known as Martabak Manis or Terang Bulan pancakes at Waroeng Oma.

Yap, you can say it is something similiar to our local market Ban Chang Kuih where you can find it in pasar malam or Pasar Pagi. The only big difference is the ingredient they use.

mbi (1)

Operate by 2 young lads, one of the owner of The MBI Martabak Manis actually originated from Jawa Indonesia and to make it better, they operate this little stall in this restaurant that also sells authentic Indonesian food which I will be blogging next.

mbi (2)

mbi (3)

Pricing for the Martabak Manis is very reasonable as they are huge in size and the ingredient they added in is very generous. Martabak Manis comes in 2 version one which is Original – means the thicker version and Tipker means the thinner or you if you love crispy then go for Tipker.

mbi (4)

All of this are prepare fresh upon order. It takes very fast for them to prepare one as, it takes a few minutes for them to get 1 piece ready for you.

mbi (5)

My all time favourite order would be .. . . .  when the base is form till the side is crispy, then first layer they spread with butter .. .

mbi (6)

 Follow by Cheeze ..

mbi (7)

Follow by Chocolate Rice and peanut. .

mbi (8)

Lastly, added on condense milk ..

mbi (9)

Then my they cut it and you can hear the cracking sound of the edge. . .

mbi (10)

This is my order, Original Martabak Manis Special @ RM 10. Rich in ingredient and very aromatic compare to our local stall. Just exactly like what they offer in streets of Indonesia. It might look sinful at first but after first bite, you will continue eating till its gone. Pretty addictive. Of course cant compare in price as its way too different. Cheeze that they use, taste nice and fragrant as event though they using Kraft and its imported all the way from Indonesia, as the owner find it our local one is more mild.

This portion I would say its pretty huge and best to share at least with 2 people.

mbi (15)

Next order is Original Cheeze with Milk @ RM 8.50

mbi (11)

After getting our thick version then we hope onto their Tipker version which is done like paper thin and the pieces that they cut all crack . This is best to eat it while its hot and not advisable to make it take away as it turn soggy very fast. Unless you go something of the ingredient that doesnt have wet base like peanut and chocolate rice, it might last a bit longer.

mbi (12)

Our next order is Tipker Pisang Special (Tipker Banana special) @ RM 11 filled with, chocolate rice, cheeze, condense milk, peanut and banana. The whole plate was gone in seconds and order another same portion again. It is so crispy and fragrant that make all of us hard to resist.

mbi (13)

Then last order we go for our favourite style which is filled with corn and peanut only. Never disappoint as the way they do the skin is already good.

If you are hunting for nice/ authentic Indonesian snacks and food, this shop surely can cure your cravings and it has now falls to one of my highly recommended place to hunt for.

One of my favourite place that I used to hang out in Jakarta when I was based there quite a while is Menteng. Supper spot there is like those few particular place that must drop by or my friend often feed me along as they know I just love their food.

Menteng is slightly off from Jakarta City it self, not too far yet is about 15 minutes away only for night drive. If you are talking about day time traffic easily 30-45 minutes?

menteng (1)

Menteng street food or hawker center is rather famous to the locals yet slightly commercialize too as its located not too far from the city and offer variety of local hawker food that I love. Its actually one of my favourite hawker area for night spot in Jakarta

menteng (2)

Of course while you are seating in this busy hawker center, please beware on your personal belongings. . .

menteng (3)

Variety of local food you can hunt for as I always eat those usuals. ..

menteng (4)

Their local hawker food with cute little cart all stack by side by side and people here are very harmony, as they help each other in their business and lend a helping hand to serve and order.

menteng (5)

My bakso soup.

menteng (6)

If you want some challenge in your food, add in their super spicy chili sauce as only a 2 spoon full is enough to make me drench in sweat.

menteng (7)

Nasi Goreng Gila – (direct translation – Crazy Fried Rice) as they have lots of ingredient, whereby it means, what ever ingredient they have on their cart, they just cook everything along in it. One of my favourite too. RP7000 – RM 2.30

menteng (8)

Then my sate that I will not miss which is totally different from Malaysia version especially with the seasoning and the gravy that added on.

menteng (9)

Sate Kicap (Soy Sate)  is usually my favourite and add on with their local sambal. slightly sweet as on their soy sauce, thick in gravy with their own mixture and sambal kicks the flavour up on spicy side. I usually order in mutton.

menteng (10)

My all time favourite is roti bakar with cheeze and chocolate rice. Just awesome as some of you might find it sweet, yet this is one of the best toast I come accross, heavy for supper? NOpe as you will fall in love with it.

menteng (11)

menteng (12)

You will have a street band playing for you, as they go around tables. You can just tip them any amount you wish.
