Shop Houses

Browsing

There is 2 row of shop houses sitting right in the middle of the whole neighbourhood in Damansara Heights, you will be spoil for selections of what to dine in this area. Not only that, its an area also pretty well know for Happy Hours with a few bar is in this area. The Full Moon Bar is no exception from that too.

[No Longer In operation] – currently is Huckleberry

Moon (1)

Operating about a year plus, it had start to gain popularity around the non muslim as this is one of a only very few outlets that serve Pork. With hot weather recently, its a great bonus to discover that they are serving set lunch now starting from RM12.90.

Moon (2)

Moon (3)

AS the night is young, we are serve with their signature Mojitos.

Moon (4)

We get to sample some of their signature for the night that starting off witha platter of Spicy Fried Chicken Wing, Black Pepper Lamb Parcels, Fried Breaded Mozzarella and a skewer of Roast Pork Belly and Chargrilled Honey Lime Chicken.

Moon (5)

If you do hang out at the outlet for beers, then Roast Pork Belly and Chargrilled Honey Lime Chicken will pair very well with it as the marination of both dish is very well done and cook to perfection, along with the chicken is fried till crips and aromatic.

Moon (6)

Next we were told to challage on this dish with its excessive spiciness level  is Butter Briyani Rice with Spicy Sri Lankan Tamarind Pork Belly and Mutton Varuval.  When this plate is serve, the aroma of the curry and spices filled up our nose instantly. First few bites of the briyani rice is bursting with spices and flavours are awesome! Then after that, I am burst with excessive spiciness that just hit hard on my tongue. Love the taste of the spiciness, but not really a fan of cloves as they cook pretty much in it. If they tone it down, then would have been a perfect dish.

Both Pork Belly and Mutton are cook to perfection with the curry are well marinate and coated on the meat. Taste of Mutton is more outstanding than the pork.

Moon (7)

As the days pass, the demand of  Hokkien Mee for supper is pretty good. With consumption of beer into our belly, the version of Hokkien Mee is shower with alot of Chu Yau Cha (Pork Lard). If you find that the current serving is lack of  it, you can just order extra Pork lard at RM 4. For a Bar to cook Hokkien Mee, I must say its pretty impressive!

Moon (8)

Not only Hokkien Mee in Demand as their Bak Kut Teh is also another popular dish among many people who are looking for supper in the outlet.

Moon (9)

Broth been cooked for hours to get the best taste of it, and do note that the taste of the soup here is not strong in herbs as customer here prefer mild version.

Moon (10)

At the end of the meal, we were pamper with Cheng Yi (Fatboybakes) cakes. As always, his cakes never dissapoint us and always on top notch. If you do plan to order, can check out his website. fatboybakes.blogspot.com

Moon (11)

It has been a while since I wake up early head out for breakfast till my friend came to my house and drag me out. Usually I will have a simple breakfast at home, either cereal or bread spread with peanut butter. It was not that early when my friend came pick me as she brought me to one of her favourite Hainanese breakfast food place to eat.

This little hawker area that operate in Taman Midah, in front of Public Bank if I am not mistaken. All these hawker area, do not have a proper name like Ah Meng Kopitiam or something something that you are able to recognize as this stall is famous among its neighborhood.

Cheras (1)

It is a very busy stalls and the amount of customers packing up this place is amazing, even the tables and chairs have to be extended to some parking lots or infront of some shop houses.

Cheras (2)

Price is pretty cheap  . .

Cheras (3)

Full house as we reach 11am . . As we start ordering, quite number of items had been sold out left with only 2-3 items in the menu, as we got no choice  . .. Look around to see what other customers order the most and turns out to be :

Cheras (4)

Curry Mee @ RM 4.40 is one of the famous dish here I suppose that 70% of people are eating this or are only left with this few choices. Its pretty unique that I did not know that Hainanese Curry Mee is a very simple version that filled with ‘cockles, taupok and pig skin’. Its a very simple dish actually that taste is just perfect for not heavy taste bud eater. Mild curry fragrant santan taste that is not so spicy and I ask for another scoop of chili to make it fiery red, yet its not too spicy. I guess have to just enjoy a plain style in the morning.

Cheras (5)

Scouted another thing is most of the customer’s there order Kopi and the colour of it looks good! solid dark brown that show’s the umph of the coffee. . .Order in 2 version, one cold and one hot.

Cheras (6)

Hot Kopi – its thick in flavour and you can taste strong robust coffee flavor and just comes to my liking. Perfect way to enjoy my morning coffee. . – REcommended – either in cold or hot.

Cheras (7)

Prawn Mee @ RM 4.40 serve in small decent bowl that looks just fine for me on breakfast. Soup base looks pale yet can smell the taste of being cook with prawns. First sip of soup amaze me that it had a Penang version Har Mee and the slight different this Hainanese stall version bends towards more sweet. Taste pretty good tho.

Cheras (8)

After finish our meal and look around wonder why so many people order Wan Tan mee, and we decided to order along. Noodle is slight springy and I see many people order it in curry soup base. Then I put into my curry soup and turns out to taste better. If you do order this, order for Curry soup base with Wantan noodle.

This stall operate from 7am-12pm daily (I think)

Cheras (9)

I know its a bit hard to explain on this place, therefore I took some pictures on how to recognise it.

Cheras (10)

And there is only 1 bus stop here.

Cheras (11)

After finish our breakfast, she brought me to hunt another stall which is famous for ‘Ham Chi Peng’ which is a few stalls away from then Hainanese stall. Filled with variety that you can choose from and its family operate business.

Cheras (13)

Dad making the dough . .  Mom frying on it and son taking orders and take away. Friendly uncle. . .

Cheras (12)

One of my friends favourite is the Prawn Fritters that sells here. as in the picture you can see its on the far right.

Cheras (14)

Cheras (15)

Cheras (16)

Prawn fritters are good, crispy on outside and all edges and soft on inside. Add on with their chili sauce just pair very well. Do drop by to this stall if you are here for the Hainanese breakfast. Worth to buy as its cheap too . .:)

For morning breakfast that you prefer something not so solid in taste then this is one of the stall that you can drop by. I am sure that i will be coming back to try out their other stuff by being early.

There are many pork lovers out there when it comes to food. Just simple type any best pork food related you can see lots of searches come out and with much talk about since quite  a few months back, finally we make an effort to drop by on this much talk about among many blogger friends of mine on this caramelize Toast & Roast Char siew. .

char siew (1)

A place that is well hidden around the neighborhood yet it is very easily to be located as you enter the main road in SS2 Mall then just drive till the end you will see a few shop houses at the end which is a dead road.

char siew (2)

With so many strips of char siew hanging, these are all the temptations that keep calling our name.. . .:p

char siew (3)

char siew (4)

pricing wise on the food is on the average side a bit more than kopitiam but on their specialist on char siew I guess its a good price. . .

char siew (5)

a more clean version of kopitiam that you can expect.

char siew (6)

Here is the char siew as we ordered medium @ RM16

char siew (7)

Look at how well the char siew is coated, as my fave is always ‘pun fei sau’. For the first time I see a Char Siew that roast till so nice, as there are no burnt ends on it and so shinny and moist skin that s very caramelize . This Char Siew definitely stand above our expectation, the meat is soft and the taste just blend in so well, with a bit of sweet taste at the end. I sure do not mind to have the whole medium portion by myself.

char siew (8)

As the Roast Pork do not tempt me that much but my colleague wanted to try so we ordered a small portion. @ RM 4 if not mistaken. a finely cut slice of roast pork. As a comment, don bother to order. . .

char siew (9)

Ordered their Roast Chicken and turns out to be not bad. .

char siew (10)

as many people also talk about their Hakka Mee and one thing that first catch my eyes is the noodle is showered with lots of fried pork lard. Find that the noodle is a bit dry and tasted normal and I mee pork more (Tang Pin Kitchen ss2).

char siew (11)

I cannot remember what is this already as it is the special for the day. The gravy Green Curry is too spicy that over power the taste of the meat and it was serve cold. Not even warm.

If you do come to Roast & Toast, the only thing I would recommend to order is just the Char Siew and if you would want to have noodle to go along, the Hakka Noodle is not bad lah.. If not just Char Siew alone is good enough and here is my another favourite Char SIew Stall which located at Sea PArk (Ah Khai Char Siew) which is another version of roasting. Cannot be compared.

There are a few actually with like of Kelana Jaya, Taman Tun Dr.Ismail (TTDI) Pasar Ramahdan 2010 and one of the most highly recommended was Taman Melawati but then for this round, we, me, Ken and Andrew decided to make our first street photography and food hunt at TTDI.

One of the reason that the residence are unhappy about this about the traffic is cannot deny that this TTDI Pasar Ramahdan is quite impressive with its size of the bazaar is big, circulating the main middle area of shop houses.  It will be start off with the stretch in front Popeye towards KFC and to Shell end, more like a retangular shape. You Imagine yourself how big it is.
