How many of you do you actually crave for Thai food? Chok Dee Thai Restaurant. I am one of them without denying I am a fan of thai food because of the spicy and sour taste in their food. Last round when I went to Bangkok with my friend we seriously had like 1 day 6 meals trip that suppose to be a shopping trip that I had transform it into makan trip. ūüėÄ

chok Dee Thai (1)

In Penang to find nice restaurant that serve Thai food is actually not many and I can tell you that Chok Dee Thai is one of them. Many of ¬†my friends love this restaurant as I often see them check in foursquare in this outlet. To me, its quite hidden actually as I have pass Burmah Road many times without¬†realizing¬†actually there is a restaurant until last round I was back in Penang, we have a small little makan gathering with my best friend which there are 13 of us.. The usual 2 or 3 will only turn out. That doesnt bother me, as long as I can order many food to eat. ūüėÄ

chok Dee Thai (2)

This shop serve Pork! nice ahh~ How can you enjoy Thai Food without pork dishes. On the downside, I find that the pricing is a bit more expensive compare to many restaurants available out there.

chok Dee Thai (3)

This restaurant is not huge but its longish that can accomote limited people in the outlet, best to advice that you head there early if not you have to wait for first round of dinner crowd to get over then only its your turn. We reach early and its quite empty, as the place just got filled within 20 minutes. My best friend know the owner as he is one of the regular there.

chok Dee Thai (4)

Love the decorations of the outlet that resembles some Thai influence even the cute doll also welcome you, Savadeekap~

chok Dee Thai (6)

For a classic drink in Thai Restaurant I usually wont miss their Lemon Grass, indeed its refreshing and the lemon grass taste is quite solid, just as I prefer.

chok Dee Thai (7)

For me, to try out a Thai Restaurant Tomyam I would always go for their clear soup base which is the authentic taste from Thai not the fiery red tomyam we usually have which is only Malaysian style. Clear Chicken Tom Yam did not fail to impress us as Collen drink every sip and keep praising every sip of it. Its a bit spicy after taste, and more towards sour that is why most girl will love it. By far I think this is one of the best clear soup I have come across.  RM19

chok Dee Thai (8)

Green Curry Chicken that is cook to perfection that the curry is not too watery nor thick that just perfect to go along with rice. A few basil leaves to make the taste a bit more kick and a bit creamy taste is just as expected.  RM12

chok Dee Thai (9)

My heng tai Tatt keep asking me lai lai, please feature me, so he take a dish and ask me to snap. Thai Seafood Otak-otak @ RM16

chok Dee Thai (10)

Another dish that I wont miss is the Otak-Otak that one thing we got deceive was it look huge but in the middle the have like a mini bowl to make it stood round. It was cook till the curry well coated with the seafood, a bit creamy sweet and sour, hint of strong basil taste some might love it some do not. To me it was just nice.

chok Dee Thai (11)

This is what Tatt said must have. Their Pork Knuckle which cook in Thai Style. The meat cook till soft and juicy that fork can easily remove the skin and the meat. The fat layers in between, to eat along with the sauce and rice just make it a superb dish~

chok Dee Thai (12)

Since we have clear soup base, as for fish we head for their signature spicy steam fish. All of us just love the soup base, spicy enough yet sour after that. Colleen again keep drinking the soup non stop.

chok Dee Thai (13)

Another dish highly recommended by Tatt is Claypot Prawn with Glass Noodles @ RM45.00. I would personally recommend this too.

chok Dee Thai (14)

Mango Sticky Rice

chok Dee Thai (15)

Thap Thim Krop @ RM4

Overall of this restaurant certainly this Thai Restaurant stood out better in taste and more towards Thai on sour and spiciness. If you are craving for nice Thai food, no doubt that I would recommend this restaurant, just be prepare to pay a bit more as I would say, compare to KL , just cant be compared.

In Malaysia, we have many types of Kopitiam, ranging from Hainanese, our traditional weekend joint nearby a market or at your favourite shop most of the time. I come across to most kopitiam have their own style of cooking especially those more to homecook style. Surisit The Thai Kopitiam is the latest joint that offer thai authentic cuisine that start to operate in this industry that hidden right in the heart of Taman Tun Dr.Ismail which is hidden right behind CIMB back area. .

You can find alot of Thai authentic food out there, with one good thing about this place is that you cant find many Thai Food that serve PORK and this is one I come across that makes us keen on it.

Surisit (1)

The kopitiam is easily spotted as its the only kopitiam that operate with pale orange colour lighting and wooden plants and wooden chairs right outside the shop.

Thai Bottle Drinks especially with fanta. . . .

Surisit (6)

Surisit (5)

If you travel to Thai, a few types of chili will be placed on the table to suits you or to spice you up.

Surisit (7)

Soya CinCau @ RM 7.90

Surisit (8)

Start off our first dish with Pucuk Paku Yam Pla or kerabu pucuk paku @ RM14.90/15.90. I find this dish is very appetizing or maybe I love sour taste to start off with, not only that, this dish is served cold and once start eating eat, I cant stop as it taste sour, little spicy and hint of coconut. РRecommended~

Surisit (9)

Next dish that is served that steal our hearts away instantly is this very fragrant Mun Thod Gapi @ RM16.90/24.90 or crispy fried pork served with their own home made chili. It was good, with its crispy skin, and the texture of pork is soft and evenly seperated out with some slices are filled with fats that some of my friends like it, and I love mine with just some fats. This plate was gone instantly. .  Recommended~

Surisit (10)

Kheng Som Pla @ RM32.90 known as  sour orange curry fish with vegetables. Its another dish that not to be miss when dine in a Thai restaurant or usually you would either order this or the fried fish. For soupy fans, you might enjoy this too as the fish is fried first instead of steam then bath with the soup. The crust of it is crispy, then eat along with the sour spicy soup. The soup is pretty additive to me tho . .

Surisit (14)

Pla Neung Prik Ma-Nao @ RM32.90 is another dish that must look out as the fish is deep fried then sprinkle with fine chili, lime, garlic and spring onion on top of it make it a bit challenging to eat as I cant really take spicy. This fish was evenly distributed with some people like to eat the fins, heads as it is very cripsy and fragrant yet best part of all, the fish is fresh as the meat is soft also must eat along with gravy on top.

Surisit (11)

Thai style fried egg omelette or Cha Om @ RM9.90

Surisit (12)

Kao Klut Gapi @ RM14.90/18.90 or belacan fried rice that serve along with sweetened pork

Surisit (13)

Then you just  mix everything in the plate  . . .. The combination of all flavours makes it extra kick, with cili padi, yet you get to taste sour lime as I squeeze both lime on top and young mango, then sweetened pork gravy.

Surisit (15)

We always would prefer go traditional as original tomyam is in clear soup just that malaysians had made it to fiery red style tom yam and we still stick to trandtional ones, comes this Tomyam Ka Moo @ RM25.90. The soup is good as it was cook along with pork and was very sourish just that it was not spicy as we expected, then after that we ask the person, they said this is the standard taste and we can request it to be spicier which we would next round~

Surisit (16)

Torb Tim Krob @ RM5.90

Surisit (17)

So far,  Mango Pulut (Glutinous Rice with Mango) is offer in many Thai restaurant, this is quite good as the mango is very fresh, soft sweet and juicy, then eat along with soft sticky rice which top with coconut milk that makes it frangrant to eat along with the sweet mango @ RM8.90

Definitely this will be our another Thai restaurant to be in our hit list and we will definately will come back for more, as the chef actually allow us to order things off from the menu or just tell him a budget and he will prepare good authentic thai food for us. Just that need to book 3 days in advance. If you are looking for good thai food, this is one to hunt for. .  Recommended~

I remember when I came back from Hong Kong for holiday few years ago, and I was craving for Hong Kong desert after that, until I saw one of the outlet that started back in 1-Utama and from that moment the interior was very nice yet the desert was not impressive. Over the years, they have grown stronger and now, that they had a total of 6th outlet with the latest laid in the heart of Kuchai Lama.

My Honeymoon Desert is known for their using finest ingredient to make this Hong Kong Style Desert.

When I walked into the shop, I thought I walked to the wrong outlet as I didnt know they have redesign the whole concept and with this their latest outlet is one of their latest design to be more vibrant, cozy and more young and tredy which we really like the new look of it.

Trust me, you can just go empty stomach in this shop and flip through at this massive range of desert which I think offer more than 70 types of desert.

As I saw in the menu, the special tea section sure do caught my attention with its photo in it, then I ask the lady to recommend me what is special or what is her favourite then comes this ‘Only You Tea’ @ RM 4. When was served that time, we were very curious what is this bebola so special then the girl just smile and ask us wait patiently, few minutes later, the whole bebola like bloom with other flowery ingredient in it. . .Taste very refreshing, sweet and nice in aroma. . .

If you miss home cook food, The Strand Kota Damansara do have one home cook food is pretty good which I had blog before (click here). Now, with their dishes getting popular and with quality of food that they cook are without MSG has extended their menu for more choices.¬†Mum’s Seafood Noodle

Mums (1)

Mum’s Seafood Noodle @ RM 13.80, RM18.80 for special

Imagine the taste of the soup when it is cook with abalone slices, fish fillet, squids, prawns, bamboo clams & ÁŹćÁŹ†ť≤ćŤīĚ, the taste of the soup is definately sweet and aromatic with the KL version, a bit milky. I always prefer my noodle with bee hoon.

Mums (3)

Bean Paste Steamed Garoupa @ Market Price

Mums (2)

For a person who love steam fish, then you would want to order this special black bean sauce that had been slightly modified by them. It is perfectly to go along with rice, with a bit sweet sour taste and the best is they added some pork lard onto the sauce that makes it very aromatic.

Mums (6)

Stuffed Squid @ RM 18.80  stuff with solid minced prawns & pork braised in premium soy sauce been cook perfectly that makes it skin a bit chewy and the ingredient in it is soft.

Mums (7)

Pork lover like me, would not miss their ‘Lor Bak’, they do not use mince pork but use strips of it to be added into and wrap¬†it¬†finely, so that¬†after fried, the skin could¬†attach onto the meat also marinate with 5 spices¬† herbs.¬† RM 9.80

Mums (8)

One of my favourite dish for the night is ‘Salted Egg Yolk Fish Head’ that had been fried perfectly crispy then cook along with salted egg, coated all over the skin makes it a bit salty, crispy and I could just finish this by myself.¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† RM 16.80

Mums (9)

When go for fried or home cook food, it will never be complete for me without ordering any curry. ‘Curry Fish Head’, mild curry that is just right to go along with rice. I banjir my rice with this curry.

Mums (10)

I never really like petai, but this dish ‘Petai Prawns‘ cook along with big juicy prawns, onions and petai, as they have tone down the taste of petai which is not that strong. This dish was gone in 30seconds. Some of them also don even manage to taste but just get to smell.¬†RM 15.80

Mums (11)

‘Jiuhu Char’ is one of the dish that must order. Cook till its a bit juicy and crispy with bangkuang, to eat it, can either eat it¬†just like that or¬†the best is to¬†wrap it with lettuce add some sambal on top to¬†add in the extra kick. RM 10.80

Mums (12)

Nyonya Chicken are cook by using kampung chicken, therefore the taste of it is more nice that cook along with some spices that comes out with thick in gravy coated on the chicken. RM 16.80

Mums (13)

Asam Fish @ Market Price, sour and spicy gravy with soft fish meat is something to look forward to make it more appetizing.

Mums (14)

Acar that taste sour and spicy.

Mums (15)

Fried Roasted Pork, first bite you will find it delicious, 2nd bite eat it raw like that you will start to find it salty, as this dish are meant to eat along with rice.

My last trip back to Penang, I was requested to think of a Halal place that my malay friends can enjoy their dinner and Jemput Tree came into my thought. With their price and food quality on my past experience did thought that it’s a nice place to dine in.

‚ÄėSingapore Fried Bee Hoon‚Äô not only pale in taste which is more like when you are sick it almost tasteless. One of the worst Singapore fried bee hoon that I came across.

‚ÄėTom Yam Fried Rice‚Äô that I have eaten better before and the sour taste is too strong that had overpower any of the taste available. Its more like taking sour fried rice.

‚ÄėTomyam Bee Hoon Soup‚Äô it taste something similar like the tom yam fried rice. Quite disappointing.

The food quality on that night was rather disastrous on that night and even some of them didn’t even finish their food. Compare to the first time that I went, their difference is big. Maybe they are using different chef on that day. If their quality remains like that, surely this is the shop I wont be paying a visit for quite some time.
