A new discovery by my friend last round and they are so keen to bring me to this place that they said its one of the best for beef soup so far and before I fly back to KL we stop by this shop to have our dinner. Kang Beef House is easy to be located as its located nearby the junction of the triangular in Jelutong heading towards Perak Road on the left side.

Kang (1)

Upon walking into the shop near to this little stall, you can smell the fragrance of the soup trailing into the air that makes me instantly hungry and looking forward.

Kang (2)

Kang (3)

not only famous for their beef noodle, also famous for their Beef Steamboat which I would surely come back next round to try it out.

Kang (4)

The outlet is semi air condition as they use alot of chilling fan.

Kang (5)

Price here are very reasonable for a bowl of beef noodle.

Kang (6)

Ordered Crispy Beef Balls @ RM 5 which is quite normal & Deep Fried Beef Lobak with their own special seasoning and eat with chili is something good to kick start with @ RM 5

Kang (7)

Beef Noodle soup with all ingredients added in, from beef slices, beef cubes, beef balls and all other spare part. The soup is thick in flavour, very aromatic and little herbal light taste on the end and love the taste of radish sweet taste. – Recommended~

Kang (8)

Crystal Beef Fried Rice @ RM12.80 is something very unique. I mention unique as with the wording crystal and they actually fried something out with every bite is very crispy with very small tiny cube of crisp. Beef slice is soft and the rice fried with wok hei.

Kang (9)

Claypot Beef Soup @ RM 15 for 2 person with a mixture of beef slices and tendon. Love the soup as its more peppery spicy base with chili padi end that makes it very umph! – Recommended!

Kang (10)

Black Pepper Beef @ RM 15  small  is fried to perfection that the beef slice still soft and not over cook and black pepper sauce all well coated onto the beef slice.

Surely, this is one of the place to hunt for if you love beef noodle soup or steamboat to kill for. Will be back.

[Repost on this blog with minor amendments and add ons as old picture was all gone]
I was on my way driving back and oh hell, forgot to ask the number of my friend, where she just came back from Melbourne and was at Ipoh. Totally forgot about that. Then dropping by at this Ipoh town where every one been talking about the Ipoh Nga Choi Kai at Restaurant Onn Kee. Came here for the 3rd time but the other stall did not open so try up this stall. No Choice. Either this or that. So it is this.

ippoh (1)

onn kee (1)

Trying out at restaurant Ong Kee. It was around 6pm and the tables was nearly fully occupied. This shows how good the business are but of course cannot compare with Murni @ SS 2 or Steven’s Corner @ OUG / Jln Genting Klang. They are crazee. Occupied the whole street.

onn kee (2)

onn kee (3)

Not only that. They are quite well known for their chicken feet too.

ippoh (2)

As some of them order chicken skin with some spare part like chicken gizzard, none of the people on my table eat it besides me. Smooth chicken skin with soy sauce just make it simple and nice to chew.

ippoh (3)

To be in this town and eat chicken rice, their fatty juicy tauge (bean sprout) is not to be miss, and why is their tauge is thick and juicy. Well, I was being told by my friend that they grow in natural mineral water flowing from moutain. That is why the tauge here is fat, juicy and crunchy.

ippoh (4)

One of my favourite in this stall is their pork ball and fish ball. Something nice to chew and dip onto their chicken meat sauce.

ippoh (5)

Find that Onn Kee ‘Ngah Choi Kai’ a.k.a ‘Tauge Ayam’ taste much better than Lou Wong. Simply because of the method that they cook it differently. On my personal opinion i think that the chicken texture here is soft tender and juicy and of course what stood out is their sesame and soy sauce base make them more outstanding. This is because I had lunch on Lou Wong had dinner here. That is how I manage to taste on the difference even though I came here many times.

ippoh (6)

This is the Koay Teow Soup’ that to be eat with the dish. It is either this or rice. Usually all the people that eat here will take Koay Teow but honestly, after you finishing the whole bowl, a little tip. Prepare a bottle of mineral water after that. You will be very thristy with their secret weapon in there. You really need it. That is why with their secret weapon the food will definitely taste nice no matter what. (This was my tip on 2009) 😀

Looking at the way how I blog last time its funny~ kekekeke

This new edit post is a blend of my 2009 writing style and 2012. Spot the difference~ I find that overall, I like Onn Kee more also just realize that I have not blog about Lou Wong before.

[Updated] 22/5/2016 after a reader inform me, this stall is called Wong Ji Bak Kut Teh and have moved with updated address as below.

Quite sometime ago, my best friend brought me to try out a bak kut teh stall that she find very good. Its quite a hidden one as travel all the way to mainland to try it out. One of the reason that she always told me that, have to be there early, cuz its often sold out if we arrive late. So this round we arrive at 6pm. I called it BM Pasar Bak Kut Teh.

bkt (1)

To locate this stall, its not hard nor easy, as its located along Bukit Mertajam wet market, nearby Pos Office. What you can do is either double park if you have the chance or park further behind or front and walk there. I was lucky that day to park by the road side next to the stall. One of the problem is that, the coffee shop doesnt have a name and you just have to drive pass slowly to locate it.

bkt (2)

Mostly they are doing neighborhood business which they do not cook it alot ..

bkt (3)

They have a few pots for you to choose if you do not know what you want, best of all is always go for a mixture of everything.

bkt (4)

One of the trick that make it so good is because they using charcoal to heat up the claypot that makes the taste extra umph. . not like those normal ones using gas stove to make it warm. . .

bkt (5)

Here is my pot of Bak Kut Teh Mixture. .  everything also masuk of all the pig spare part. .

bkt (6)

Quite like the taste of it, which is a bit strong on the herbs taste, yet not too thick and well prepared. Taste of the soup is much better I think its because using Charcoal to boil on it or its just my mind always have the impression using charcoal to cook stuff is always better. Price is pretty decent as for 2 pax is around RM18 with such generous amount of ingredient.

Well, I have visited this place a few times yet often forgot to ask the auntie what is their name of the stall. . .:d

Sometimes, when you crave for Bak Kut Teh, you need not drive all the way to Klang for your favorite stall, sometimes, some where nearby or some where in a commercial area will have a nice BKT shop that was until recently, we found new love for our BKT outing stall which is this Xingang Bak Kut Teh, that located a street away from Leisure Mall, Cheras.

bkt (1)

We were told that this restaurant serve authentic Klang homecook recipe Bak Kut Teh and immediately we arrange to drop by.

bkt (2)

It was Sunday late lunch, and there are quite a number of crowds here too.  As we sat down, the crowd start pouring in till near full house.

bkt (3)

Normal menu they have here, and one thing that caught our eyes was their pricing. I would say a bit cheaper compare to those places like Jalan Ipoh or KL area.

One unique thing in this shop is that, you can choose how your Bak Kut Teh to be served, can be either in Claypot or in glass bowl like those in Klang, pricing definitely will be slightly different as for me, I always prefer mine in Claypot.

bkt (4)

We ordered, Dry Pork Ribs mix with Trotter pot to start off with and its quite a surprise to me that they add in ladies finger in it. It was cook till quite dry, that the think soy sauce able to coat with the meat, and you have to stir it fast to prevent the meat from sticking at the side or base of the pot. Will be a very good companion to eat along with rice, as it is not too salty that just nice.

bkt (5)

Claypot Ribs @ RM 9 that served, just enough for me, if I am eating by myself, and by this time, I just cant wait to taste on their soup. The soup that definately comes to my liking, its a bit more strong in herbs taste that I have always like, and the soup is not too watery. Can just taste out that they use alot of pork ribs to cook along as the soup taste sweet too.

Best of all, the soup can be refill, and I had 4 bowls of the soup~

bkt (6)

One of my favourite that I would not really miss is pig’s spare part. ‘Intestine and Stomach’ @ RM 8 as I find it cheaply price with the generous amount of spare part that they gave me. I love the intestine, as its been stuff into multi layer style, just nice to chew and its wash till clean that do not have those weird taste.

bkt (7)

Claypot Big Bone @ RM 18, cook till the meat is soft and dip into my garlic chili with thick soy sauce is just perfect.

bkt (8)

Vegetable in Garlic Sauce @ RM 7

bkt (9)

Besides serving Bak Kut teh, they do have something special in da house with some of their dish are own creation and we try out their Apple Chicken which is something that I have never tried out before, deep fried first then shower with their own homemade apple sauce. Taste pretty unique, that have the sweetness of apple and crispy on the outer layer. I would say, worth to try~

bkt (10)

I am just so jealous of you that work nearby the area, as they do have set lunch for their Bak Kut Teh just for RM 9 that served along with Rice + Bak Kut Teh + Vege + Chinese Tea. Where to find this kind of promo wor, where usually I eat myself also easily cost RM13-RM16.

Well, this shop also do have steam fish, that I accidentally deleted that picture in my camera, which comes in 4 flavours, I did try out their garlic ginger steam fish, that I like how they did their own mixture and strong in garlic taste and ginger taste.

This place had add into my list of bak kut teh hunting place, and I would say, worth recommending to try out if you love those kind of soup base, a bit stronger in herbal taste, soup is also a bit thicker. Recommended place~

Remark: The dish have 3 sizes to choose from, pricing above is base on our order as some is medium, some is small.

Last weekend, I had a very short trip back to Penang to help my friend photo shoot on his new range of food that going to promote for the next 6 months which I have previously blog about it (click here to view) and while I was there, I manage to think back to find a place that it had been long time have never dine there. Kedai Kopi Chip Heng

When I was a kid, my dad used to bring me here, that I used to bugged him on weekends, as it was quite a distance from Penang to mainland to hunt for this meal and at that time I was addicted to their soup taste, sour veggie.

Yam Rice

When I reach there, I remember one of the shop used to be my favourite but I could not remember which is the one as there are 2 shops side by side selling the same thing but different taste, as I lost my memory, I just chin chai entered one of the shop which turns to be Kedai Kopi Chip Heng.

Yam Rice (2)

What they sell is called, Yam Rice (one of their main selling item) to go along with soup that filled with mixture of pig’s spare part.

Yam Rice (4)

You can choose the parts that want to be added in into your bowl or mix everything ( I love it to be mix of everything) in the small bowl boil it for a while till its cook, then they will add the soup after that.

Yam Rice (3)

Yam Rice (5)

This is ‘Salted Vegetable Soup with Pork Innards’ with one of their special taste was the soup base, which is created much from salted veggie (Kiam Chai – in hokkien) and it had been quite some time since I last taste it and find it another feel like sour plum which happens to be quite strong which me and my friend find it quite weird but as I remember the when I was a kid it doesn’t taste like that (more on sour veggie).

Yam Rice (6)

Then the auntie introduce us their ‘Tau Yew Bak’ that had been stew for quite some time till the pork intestine its very soft and a bit chewy and if the meat would have been softer a bit it would have been perfect. I just love the taste of the Tau Yew as it similar to my grandma’s cooking that I had long missed. We just finish this bowl within seconds.

Yam Rice (7)

If you are in this coffee shop and ordered white rice it would be just very weird (would be more like ordering Wan Tan Mee without Wantan) as they are famous for their ‘Yam Rice’.

Love the Yam Rice that have diced yam cubes are deep – fried to a crisp, add in sauteed dried shrimps to cook with the rice till its not too dry is just delicious to go along with the soup.

Yam Rice (8)

The best part is all the pig spare part must dip with their special ‘In house Chili’ to add in the kick of it.

After finishing the meal, I am still not satisfied that it doesn’t give me the umph of it then went to the next stall to tap au back their taste and while I was at home after reheat it again, I just found out that that’s the shop I wanted to go with its strong taste of sour veggie. Both shop also had their own customer with different taste wise, hence for me, I love the one next to this shop and as I remember, my cousin loves this shop compare to the one I like. (depends on your taste bud)

Total damage for 2 pax is RM15 including drinks which we find it very cheap.

When we were having good times at Songkran water festival (click here), Jonathan suggest that a restaurant that we must not miss and its highly recommended- Restaurant Kan Eng, which during last round of his trip there he did not manage to eat it as the restaurant is so sardine packed! Then on that day, he said that no matter what die die also must go, then lead us walk one big round in the city area as we read the map wrongly. As we walked towards there our stomach is already growling and we are all drench too as we constantly meet some people that station right out from their house to attack on passerby.

Kan Eng

Restaurant Kan Eng is one of the famous local restaurant that attracted a lot of Malaysians to dine there too for its quality and one thing that surely attracted a lot people which is the price of the food, Its very cheap!

Kan Eng (2)

In the menu offer a lot of local varieties, which is most of us would want to eat but that day we have decided not to eat something spicy as in the morning, we really had spicy food till our tears and sweat all dripping nonstop yet scared that we had fun during the water fight then stomachache.

Jonathan was our captain for the night, we leave him in charge of the order as we were busy eating food that we ta pau on the way walking here, would even said that we attack nearly all the stalls that we come across.

Kan Eng (3)

The food was served fast, and start off with ‘Salted Veggie Intestine Soup’, its a good dish to start off with, as I love the salty and sourness of the soup and the pig’s spare part was cook perfectly that it is very chewy and I love to dip it with soy sauce.

Kan Eng (4)
‘Otak Otak’ is one of my favourite that I would not miss when go for thai food, I just love the taste of it which is not very milky feel, yet its seafood in this. Juicy inside out, that it is not steam till it is solid.

Kan Eng (5)
‘Kerabu Chicken Feet’ which is one of the famous local delicacies, and it was marinated very well, that the sourness and spicy soak into the skin yet its juicy and chewy as it is suppose to be. Some people might find this eerie as its chicken feet skin.

Kan Eng (6)
If you go to thai, and a dish that you must order which is ‘Braised Pork Leg’ without eating this, the makan session would be complete. Braised till the skin its soft that you use fork to open it up, it slide in so smooth and the mean pop up open. The meat and the fats is so soft till it feels like melting on the tongue and eat it with white rice is just perfect.

Kan Eng (7)
I forgot what the name for this vegetable, but its one type of my favourite veggies, fried not so long to maintain the crunchiness of the veggie and cook it plainly to get the best taste out of it, or another way to order is with sambal but Thai doesn’t have sambal.

Kan Eng (8)
‘Fried Oyster’ Some of them love fried oyster, but for me I just love our Malaysian version.

We were very satisfied with the dinner and ‘katui’ serve our table really good, and in Hatyai, do not worry about language barrier as now they can speak Cantonese, Mandarin or Hokkien (which is quite shocking for me) Total damage for the night is around 1000bhat which is around RM100 that we feel is really cheap. A recommeded restaurant if you do visit Hatyai.
