Any one of you fancy China food? I do, as I have dine before many good authentic China food before and definitely not in Malaysia. One of my best friend introduce me her all time favourite sze chuan food that located in Jalan Alor (click here). Then recently, I am being introduce to another type of China food which hail all the way from North China. Dong Bei is actually a province in North China and the owners have migrated to Malaysia, hence that is how the Dong Bei Restaurant is name after. The family came to Malaysia as early as 1992 and also known as one of the pioneer of authentic China food back in those early days. As now the restaurant is located behind Times Square, can you see that area is like a mini China eatery street.

Dong Bei (1)

In China, there are many province and taste definitely different for any other town that they have, it is the same as Malaysia too, as the East coast and WEst cost taste bud are very much different. So what is the difference for Dong Bei Food. The food have more sourish end and not that spicy. ( as the owner have localize it)

Dong Bei (2)

Its a simple restaurant and indoor seating is a unique dining experience as they have design in a way to give a little ambiance of what Dong Bei dining feels like.

Dong Bei (3)

Dong Bei (4)

this is the first time I came across utensils are properly wrap to kept the cleanliness of it.

Dong Bei (5)

Beancurd Dong Bei Style (风味干豆腐丝)RM18. Import all the way from China as its hard to find this kind of texture that originate the authenticity of it. Its a cold platter with chewy texture and hint of garlic and spicy chili oil taste. Pretty good to start off with.

Dong Bei (13)

Crisp Potato (香辣土豆片) @ RM18 for a start would be another good option.

Dong Bei (7)

This is another unique dish which is Dong bei Da La Pi sheet with Cucumber Salad (东北大拉皮)RM14. AT first glance I thought it was pig skin that finely cut then its not. Sprinkle with some garlic and eat it sheet by sheet, that taste a bit like jelly fish and pig skin texture cross over. 😀

Dong Bei (6)

Sauerkraut, stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉) @ RM18

Dong Bei (8)

Stewed Eggplant, Bean, Potato and Meat Dong Bei style (东北大乱炖) @ RM25. This is rather simple as I would rate this North China Curry, thick n creamier gravy and its a little sweet in taste at the end. Well fried and I quite like it. Goes well with my rice.

Dong Bei (9)

Hot & Spicy Seafood (麻辣香锅)RM28

Amount so many dishes, this would turn out one of the most spicies compare to the rest, the spiciness is not to the extend to make our mouth numb, as I find its well balance, even though cook with lots of dry chili, do not let the look to scare you off. I love how they cook along with lotus root make it crisp on the bite and prawns is fresh.

Dong Bei (10)

Boiled Fish with Sour Cabbage and Spicy Soup (酸菜鱼) RM32

Dong Bei (14)

This turns out to be one of the favourite among my table, as strong sourish taste with veggie and fresh fish. Those who like mild spicy, this would be a good option.

Dong Bei (11)

“Gardens”Prawn, Lotus Root, Potato and Vegetables (田园小炒) RM28

Dong Bei (12)

I rate this is super star for the night as Sweet & Sour Pork ( 锅包肉 ) was fried to perfection and its so cripsy outside and the pork inside its not overcook. Taste with a bit of sour vinegar taste with soy sauce that turn it a good combo@ RM18 – recommended

Dong Bei (15)

Lastly, we did not order the Dumplings (10 pcs) (饺子) but looking at so many tables order dish its like a must have thing and ended up we order 2 portion. One is steam @ RM10 and another one is fried.@ RM8

Great starter to go along and if mix with a bit of chili oil with ginger and vinegar, I just like mine to be in that way. 😉

One of my favourite place that I used to hang out in Jakarta when I was based there quite a while is Menteng. Supper spot there is like those few particular place that must drop by or my friend often feed me along as they know I just love their food.

Menteng is slightly off from Jakarta City it self, not too far yet is about 15 minutes away only for night drive. If you are talking about day time traffic easily 30-45 minutes?

menteng (1)

Menteng street food or hawker center is rather famous to the locals yet slightly commercialize too as its located not too far from the city and offer variety of local hawker food that I love. Its actually one of my favourite hawker area for night spot in Jakarta

menteng (2)

Of course while you are seating in this busy hawker center, please beware on your personal belongings. . .

menteng (3)

Variety of local food you can hunt for as I always eat those usuals. ..

menteng (4)

Their local hawker food with cute little cart all stack by side by side and people here are very harmony, as they help each other in their business and lend a helping hand to serve and order.

menteng (5)

My bakso soup.

menteng (6)

If you want some challenge in your food, add in their super spicy chili sauce as only a 2 spoon full is enough to make me drench in sweat.

menteng (7)

Nasi Goreng Gila – (direct translation – Crazy Fried Rice) as they have lots of ingredient, whereby it means, what ever ingredient they have on their cart, they just cook everything along in it. One of my favourite too. RP7000 – RM 2.30

menteng (8)

Then my sate that I will not miss which is totally different from Malaysia version especially with the seasoning and the gravy that added on.

menteng (9)

Sate Kicap (Soy Sate)  is usually my favourite and add on with their local sambal. slightly sweet as on their soy sauce, thick in gravy with their own mixture and sambal kicks the flavour up on spicy side. I usually order in mutton.

menteng (10)

My all time favourite is roti bakar with cheeze and chocolate rice. Just awesome as some of you might find it sweet, yet this is one of the best toast I come accross, heavy for supper? NOpe as you will fall in love with it.

menteng (11)

You will have a street band playing for you, as they go around tables. You can just tip them any amount you wish.

Last year it was a big hit with anything on pork that is mushrooming all over especially pork burger. You name it, how many restaurants are there with pork burger and how many are pretty good? What I would say is there is a hidden gem in SS2 that I recently come across or introduce by my colleague as she said, ‘Bok’ since you ate so much I am pretty sure you gonna love this shop. She bring me heading directly behind one of my favorite shop Spicy Chili Pan Mee (SS2 Branch) and discover this family own fast food outlet Wallop Pork Burger.

wallop (1)_resize

When I arrive this place I scratch my place, why is this fast food chain hidden so inside in the housing area instead of bustling area of main street in SS2. What I am saying is that, this shop is located at another side of SS2 whereby Kayu Nasi Kandar is located.

wallop (2)_resize

Is just one thing I do not understand. After I Google some article on it and found out that they prefer to be station here as they would love to control their quality of the pork burger.

wallop (3)_resize

Design on the outlet is simple and straight to it, our mind is pork burger…. pork burger… pork burger. . .

Another thing that capture our attention is we can build our own burger!!!

wallop (4)_resize

What it means is just order the burger and then add on these toppings to customize on your best taste preference or what you feel like to have on your burger.

wallop (5)_resize

wallop (6)_resize

I got to know also that their pork patties are done fresh, with fresh garnishing and fresh buns to ensure we get the best of the flavour or we enjoy it.

wallop (9)_resize

Sergeant Wallop would welcome you to their shop.

wallop (7)_resize

In their fast food menu everything is rather simple and fast, as its only one type of burger you can choose and the other difference is that how many patties you want. Single, Double or Triple.

wallop (8)_resize

Single – Mamma Wallop, Double – Papa Wallop or Triple – Sergeant Wallop. One that I am keen to try is Hot Boy with their very own spicy sauce.

They have a meal combo also that serve in 2 catagory which is Single Mama Wallop Set (RM9.80) and Double Papa Wallop Set (RM12.80) , after looking at the menu I would think that the burger is kinda small and decided to go for Papa Wallop set. These set starting from RM 9.80 comes with fries and a drink (A&W or Coke)

wallop (10)_resize

Here is my pork burger with Bacon and Mushroom and all of us are in love with this pork burger. The patties are well season with their own recipe not too thick with the right size, grill to perfection that make it moist and juicy, bun that toast quite well to compliment together with the patties and dressing that added on doesnt make it too moist. The whole function of my mouth was just keep biting and biting while enjoying every bite of it. Their fries are pretty good too ..

What happens in the end? Called afew of my friend and Ta pau for them and they love it too. Pork lovers, you guys must not miss this.

Remark: I would advise that for girls can go on for Papa Wallop as the patties are pretty thin slice and for guys you would definitely love on their Sergeant as its the right size for us.

Definitely this would be one of my recommended pork burger shop if you are craving for one nice burger and its easy to find parking here cuz not many people head to this area. Do Drop by and give it a try~ I am sure you gonna love it as how we did.

After our sightseeing from Tangkuban Perahu, which a place to visit inactive volcano at Bandung, then on the way back to Bandung Town, my friend introduce this stall which is one of her favourite eatery place that I said I want to eat Local delights only. Bandung Food Hunt

Surabi Imut known as one of their local delights that origins from the West Java. On that side, this little snacks are only available in 2 flavours, sweet surabi and Surabi Oncom. Then the owner had modernise the taste of it and now in this outlet, around 27 flavours are available.

The process of making it is using small claypot to cook along and burn under hot charcoal.

These are the four flavours we orderd.

Chocolate Cheese and Milk @ RP 6000

Milk and Cheese @ RP 5500

Sausage, Chicken Special with Cheese

Banana Chocolate Milk @ RP 5000

Overall taste of it, it taste something similiar like my favourite Apom Manis in thicker version, with a bit salty base baked till brownish on the outer layer then add in your favourite toppings. The star among those 4 are the chocolate milk cheese. That taste super good!

Next destination of eating, we were brought to a very hidden area, that have to walk through this small alley to reach the little warong. If you love pork, then this is one of the place you must visit that has no menu, only served 1 kind of food.

It is better to be seated outside here with the mini bar counter style its because inside is too smokey already with its poor ventilation when they are bbq’ing the pork!

My friend told me that, it used to be a very run down place, and they old area caught fire, then now they have renovated it a bit to more modern warung style. It is packed with alot of people during lunch time.

In the set,you will be giving their sour soup, special blend green spicy chili to sqeeze along with a lime. and the unique dressing for the pork is this thickend pig blood.

Here comes our porky for the day. Deep fried till the outer layer is cripsy with their own homemade spices ingredient, pork meat is soft and with even fats in between then my friend doesnt like the pig blood, so did not pour it in ..  The difference is that when add in pork blood, the meat is more moist n juicy n taste better.

One of the food that must hunt if you visit Bandung, and of course this is not a commercial eatery place, which is only known by the locals or neighbourhood, reason is this shop doesnt have a name and its hidden back behind alot of houses..

What I can say is, this is the location view that I shoot at which is in front of STT Telkom Didapati Ukur/ Telcom Indonesia building main entrance (if not mistaken), and my friend told me the name of the shop is Siagian.
