Juugatsu omakase

juugatsu japanese omakase

This is the Omakase private dining area, that is able to host only 10 seating.

Juugatsu (44)

Usually when comes to Omakese, you are sure to expect a Japanese Chef However in Juugatsu Ten Japanese Dining, this area is helm by this superb young chef, Chef Jxian as he is only in his early 30’s, I am totally impress by his food journey experience that he had planned out for the night.

Omakese set are usually will set by chef and he will use the best fresh ingredient of the day. What you see in my posting could be slightly different to what you will have or serve upon.

For this Omakese Menu is set at 7 course dinner.

The first dish Sakizuke – 3 kinds of seasonal appetizer. Serve with :

  1. sea snails as a cold dish: well marinated. soy taste is light yet very fragrant and it is light chill

great start of appetizer.

japanese food in sri pelaling

  1. Premium quality abalone. Chewy and thick.
  2. special marinated tofu is chef signature.

omakase in kl

Otsukuri – 3 kind of seasonal item. It was catch of the day and chef share with us that it was best fish that just arrive in the morning. He even he share with is this is the sea water fish from Japan. Little did I know that this fish can be eaten and the meat is fresh, sweet and juicy.

Juugatsu (16)

Juugatsu (10)

We went thru a great dining experience as each dish are explain detailly from chef.  How do we eat it, which sequence, where are the fish from and why this cut of fish he is taking.

Juugatsu (11)

Unique dish that serve with dry ice with its serving effect.  Fish meat is well mixture. Each of the meat gives different mouth bite texture. Certainly it is all sweet and fresh.

Juugatsu (13)

Next we are moving to Chef cooked dish – chef Specials Grill Dishes & fried dishes.

Juugatsu (17)

This is one of my highlight for the night. This is actually octopus tentacles from a huge octopus. only serve 3 dot of the tentacles and imagine how big will this be. Just lightly quick char grill, dip with chef special soy sauce. Omigod! texture is near to a bit rubberish, chewy, fragrant of light soy with hint of charred is just perfect. If you pair it with Sake this is going to be a bomb!

Juugatsu (18)

I have seen hairy crab, but I certainly have not seen such a “yeng” hairy crab. Freshly flown in in the morning and still alive and kicking. Usually this live flown in hairy crab have to consume within 2 days to enjoy its best meat quality.

Juugatsu (19)

Juugatsu (20)

This is how the meat is being prepared. Chef mention that the meat is so fresh, pure and sweet. Maintaining its freshness of this crab by quick boil for the meat then mix with its roe.  I am enjoying every bite of it. Never knew with crab roe you can give such a nice sweetness, and fragrant. The crab claw is just good!

Juugatsu (21)

Juugatsu (22)

Juugatsu (23)

Just look at the waygu. Being carefully handle with layers of special leaves from Japan. Using A5 premium wagyu.

Juugatsu (24)

Quick torch burnt to bring its waygu oil.

Juugatsu (26)

This dish is my super highlight for the night. serve with 2 piece wagyu and each bite is burst with flavours.

  1. Both are filled with foie gras as the base, wrapped with A5 wagyu.
    1. 1 x piece is topped with sea urchin
    2. 1 x piece is topped with freshly slice truffle, and caviar, then topped with gold leaves

Juugatsu (27)

Juugatsu (29)

Wagyu oil blends so well with foie gras, and creamy uni just melts in your mouth. another piece with truffle and caviar, with nice balance of truffle and saltiness of caviar just goes well with it.

foie gras

fresh truffle

Chef show us what kind of Japanese truffle he is slicing for us.

Chawanmushi

Chawanmushi, this is pack with like seafood flavour. seamegg is silky smooth, and with scallop

Juugatsu (31)

Juugatsu (34)

8 pieces sushi : This is another unique seasonal fish that is currently available from Japan.

Juugatsu (35)

this Japanese clams also freshly flown in from Japan and I have never seen such a big one. It is as nearly as big as my palm. Chef sprinkle a bit of salt to wake it up.

Juugatsu (36)

Juugatsu (37)

Look at this. Upon serving, chef will just clap twice to wake the clam up and we are enjoying it fresh. light crispy, sweet, sea water fragrant and hint of special soy sauce just make this one of the best sushi piece!

Juugatsu (38)

Juugatsu (33)

For sushi, we are all enjoying premium ingredient, with toro, nice cut of tuna, mixture of other fish. The best part of this sushi is how chef cook its rice. Different grains, short yet abit like wheat but each bite of rice you can just seperate it easily in your mouth and nice bite.

Juugatsu (39)

Another 2 is this premium sea urchin which is different from the one serve in the first 2 dish. You can tell by its colour and texture. Follow by one generous big Hokkaido scallop. I try to bite it in one bite, unfortunately my mouth does not fit. Lightly grill and this satisfying.

Juugatsu (40)

Mini palate washer as special marinated. Crispy bite with abit of spicy end.

Juugatsu (41)

Before we end, served with Futamono – a type of soup. As it look simple but this is prep and steam for 2 hours. just look at the clarity of it. As we drink the soup it turns more oily from ingredient that is use, this is the magic, Look oily but does not taste oily

Juugatsu (42)

Love the dessert. Simple and spot on. Very unique kind of grape that we need to suck out the flesh. Then will left its skin perfectly. Follow by ice cream puff and sourish drink.

Juugatsu (43)

Chef share with us on his knife set as each of the knife engraving indicates that he have succesfully master station skillset. Like sushi cutting and others. It is not easy to get this awarded from him Japanese mentor in Singpore with strict perfection guide. Certainly impressive that how the Japanese Chef making this is like part of the graduation program.

I must say as a Malaysian, Chef Jxian is certainly impressive as he is only at his early 30’s.

Best recommended to visit this restaurant on Tuesday/ Friday as where all the fresh ingredient are flown in and you can enjoy maximum quality of it.

Just finish our dinner not too long and walked out, saw this new brand The Whale Tea at Sri Petaling and decided to give it a try. One of the new boba tea player in Sri Petaling.

The Whale Tea (6)

Outlet looks quite decent. Not too sure where is this brand from.

The Whale Tea (1)

By Recommendations, the cashier recommend their avocado as their must order item but we were quite full. So decided to try the classic one.

The Whale Tea (2)

The Whale Tea (3)

Menu looks quite standard but the unique one is their siganture is Avocado

The Whale Tea (4)

The Whale Tea (7)

We just order their signature Flaming Brown Sugar Bubble Whale Tea @ RM 12.90. By the look itself do look quite dull and plain. Guess what? after a few sips, I never finish and got just chuck it it off.

The Whale Tea (5)

Among the crazy hype of bubble milk tea in KL, this is standing the last spot in my chart.

As I was trying out Kepong outlet and why there is a huge different till only realise there is a different after my 3rd visit to the outlet and currently I am blogging this.

IS The Black Whale and The Whale Tea the same? They have quite similiar interior design.

Super Ramen by rudifook in Sri Petaling is one of a local fusion ramen that is gaining its popularity. From the team of Rudifook previously did make an atas Wan Tan Mee at Kota Damansara as now they have spread their wings into another food catagory.

Super Ramen (3)

with their latest concept, you can enjoy a bowl of pippin hot ramen with a glass of cocktail. Love the ambiance, which is chic and modern. Their service is kinda off interesting, where upon your arrival, if there are tables are not ready, you will be ask to seat around the bar area then they will set up the table for you.

Super Ramen (4)

Super Ramen (5)

try out their Kimchi Ramen. Pork broth is not to bad as it has some unique flavour. Kimchi is not that prominent and not my kind of taste. The onsen egg cook to perfection. Just lack of the slightly brown colour as it does look pale and the flavour of the egg is missing. It could be perhaps their own style. Noodle texture is alright ‘lah’

Super Ramen (6)

Super Ramen (7)

Super Ramen (8)

Super Ramen (10)

Super Ramen (9)

Do not know what to order, so order this instead. King of Pork Chop Ramen @ RM 26.80 . Serve along with quite huge pork piece. As big as near my friends face. Pork is cook to perfection, however lacking of flavour profile. Broth to me is rather pale and nothing to shout about. Looking for a bargain bowl hunter, then this could be one of your option.

Super Ramen (11)

Super Ramen (12)

Overall, I find this shop nothing to shout about, as social media did build my expectation up. Hence visiting with a certain expectation is bad. Maybe will give them another chance few months later. Believe there are a lot better ramen in KL over this. (but again, it is fusion – so cant expect much)

They still do have their own regular as this place not really my kind of thing. It could be your taste too.

Now, Korean restaurant do not only mushroom in Solaris /Mont Kiara area as they are growing every where. Recent discovery that I found in Sri Petaling is Hwa Ga Korean BBQ that is offering All you can eat deal buffet at RM 39++.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (2)

Located same row as Inside Scoop, this outlet signage is in Korean which is not easy for you to eye on if you were really trying to find this place. However they are in etween Tea live and Inside Scoop and it is a corner lot.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (3)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (4)

There are constant surprise in Korean food as they are also evolving. Narungji Tongdak is one of the latest item being introduce in Korea and also known as one of the latest hype. It is actually a very classic recipe that infuse with moden craze such as Cheese. Inside the chicken is filled with glutinous rice, black rice, ginseng, jujube dates, gingko nuts, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, barley and garlic.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (5)

Carefully charcoal grill for few hours to ensure the chicken is cook inside out yet remain its juiciness.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (6)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (7)

After the process, it will be place on a hot stone and further cook for another 10-15 minutes with other ingredient along with cheese.Classic is Nurungji Yangpa Dak @ RM 65 Topped Onions Grilled Chicken with Scorched Rice.
Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (8)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (9)

Nurungji Cheese Buldak @ RM 65 Grilled Chicken and Scorched Rice with Cheese and Spicy Sauce

There are more than 10 flavours available. I love their classic as you can taste the ginger, garlic, mild ginseng taste and remember to dip with their special home cook sauce. To me, this taste like dry Samgyetang (Korean Ginseng Chicken) with a modern touch. Per portion is ranging from  RM 55 – RM 79

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (10)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (11)

Next of course move to their Korean BBQ buffet which I am very happy where they are offering quite a pretty decent ala carte menu for you to order.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (12)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (13)

Ban Chan for you to start on first.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (14)

Kimchi Jiigae, Doenjang Jiigae, Woosamgyeop Deonjang Jiigae and Sundubu Jiigae. These are great with rice or even good on its own. We basically order nearly 3/4 of the menu. For soup base I still like my classic Kimchi Jjigae.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (15)

Kimchijeon and Pajeon

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (17)

Feels like having some of their classic item would be Shin Ramyeon and Kimchi Ramyeon.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (18)

Yangnyeom Chicken, Fried Chicken, Banban Chicken andDakgangjung turned out very decent. Crispy, tender, moist and individually seasoned with various sauces and seasoning.

This is the best part, as the slice meat section they are quite generous and it sure does look premium and of course the taste is good. For such a price, this is really a good bargain.

Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly) – thick cuts of tender and fatty pork belly
Busut Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly with Mushroom)
Daepae Samgyeopsal (Sliced Pork Belly) – thin slices of fatty pork belly
Gochujang Samgyeopsal (Spicy Pork Belly) – spicy and sweet fatty pork belly
Dwaeji Galbi (Grilled Pork Ribs) – savory and sweet pork ribs, my favorite of the lot
Dwaeji Jumulleok (Grilled Marinated Pork) – savory and sweet pork with onions and peppers
Hangjeongsal (Pork Shoulder) – lean pork fillet
Usamgyeop (Short Plate) – 3 layer beef

Jumulleok Gui (Beef in Soy Sauce) – savory lean beef slices
Dakgalbi (Stir Fried Chicken) – spicy and sweet boneless chicken
O-Jingeo Gui (Grilled Squid) – spicy and sweet squid

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (19)

Tried most of the meat selection from squid, to lamb, pork slices and beef.

I have been hearing HoHo Steamboat Restaurant (好好海鮮火鍋之家) at Sri Petaling is one of a recommended steamboat recommendations from some of my friends since many years back. Only recently decided to check them out.

Hoho Steamboat (2)

Hoho Steamboat (3)

As I was craving for Tomyum Soup base, decided to choose it and also the restaurant famous clear soup base.

Hoho Steamboat (4)

Hoho Steamboat

Overall, I guess I am not the right target market. Find that the items in here are way overprice as I paid estimated RM 90 for this meal. Soup base is so so only where there are other better ones out there. However this place still remains as one of my friends favourite place.

Authentic food is the hardest to find.  Usually, any foreign talent with great authentic recipe landed in a foreign land, 80% will end up tweaking the recipe to suit local taste bud. However, there is this one hidden gem that located in Sri Petaling is serving an Authentic Indian Cuisine. Mallikas is running the business with passion for food to spread the authenticity of Indian cuisine.

Mallikas (2)

With much traveling around the region for her son and daughter, the owner herself has decided to choose Malaysia as her settling ground by perusing her dream to open an authentic Classic Indian restaurant, hence the name Mallikas is name after her by recommendations of her son in law. Determine to serve us Malaysians the best Authentic food with her passion, she imports 95% of her ingredient from India and best of all, she also gotten both the Northern and Southern chefs to cover two different region cooking method.

Mallikas (3)

Mallikas (4)

I am certainly blown away with her menu as it is pretty extensive. As part of their believes, the menu also offer wide variety of vegetarian food.

Mallikas (5)

When comes to authentic food, there are a few items that we should give it a go such as their Masala tea @ RM 4.50 and Hot Lemon Tea @ RM 4, and Apple/ Mango Lassi @ RM 8

Mallikas (6)

To start off our palate, we were serve with their classic soup = Shorba Chicken @ RM 8, an authentic North Indian soup prepared with your choice of chicken or seafood and spices which had a unique taste to it. Love the taste is it is quite unique.

Mallikas (7)

Cruncy Onion Praka is a very classic snacks to begin with. You can either eat it like a snacks or you can top it ontop of your rice to make it part of the dish. Cook to perfection where curry leaves flavour just blend nicely into it. Do dip with their sauce @ RM 10

Mallikas (8)

Tawa Fish @ RM 17 as our next entree which was mackerel slices marinated with their homemade spice paste (chili powder, ginger, garlic, spices and lime juice). Fish is marinated and cook well.

Mallikas (9)

Chicken Vepudu @ RM 16  marinated chicken breast cubes with ground masala spices is indeed bites that build with flavours. Chicken is not too dry yet just nice.

Mallikas (10)

Mallikas (11)

Mutton Pepper Fry @ RM 19 is one of the dish to hunt for. No doubt that they are good with their lamb, where it is cook till the meat is soft, fragrant, hit with mild spices and when you pair it with briyani rice, it is a dish to die for.

2. Pallak Paneer is the little green pot that sits behind it. IT is for vegetarian and love the thick gravy with a hit of mint and other leaves. Perfect to go on with nan. @ RM 16

Mallikas (12)

Prawn Varuvel @ RM 19

Mallikas (13)

Another recommended dish would be this Butter Chicken Masala @ RM 18  which is just amazing. It do smells good and the gravy is thick and rich with creamy tomato masala paste enriched with spices. Hit it with either white rice or nann bread is just enough to spread it clean.

Mallikas (14)

Nan Lovers will fall inlove with their nann deeply. It is soft,  and slight fluffy. The Butter Naan @ RM 5 and The Kashmiri Naan @ RM 8 is slightly a healthy version where they add in nuts and raisins for additional flavor and texture and soft and good.

Mallikas (15)

Mallikas (16)

Chicken Andra Roast fills the air with aromatic sizzling and spices smell. It is like a tandori but on a bake then add onto sizzling plate. @ RM 18

Mallikas (18)

Masala Dosai is a dish that MUST order. Serve 3f long yet it is super crispy. As you dig in, the center is filled with potato curry and chutney. Do add on, on all the 3 sauces given.

Mallikas (19)

Mallikas (20)

Mallikas (21)

1.Vegetable Pulav @ RM 12

2. Tomato Rice @ RM 16.50

Mallikas (17)

To finish off, I quite like their Badam Milk @ RM 5 and Gulab Janum (this might be too sweet but that is their classic dessert) as this two are quite a classic Indian drink and dessert.

Dining in Mallikas turns out to be out of my expectation and it is worth recommending. Definitely will be back for their other dishes. Recommended!
