When back to Penang usually, I always wanted to go back street food but my friend always end up bring me to this kind of places. When they told me to dinner is at Island Plaza, I thought they must be joking till they said I must try this Japanese Restaurant – Ido Ichi Japanese Cuisine. Who can really resist Japanese Food?

Well, Island Plaza used to be one of the hottest spot to hang out 15 years ago before Gurney Plaza was constructed. One of a major place that most teenagers to hang out at that time, with many prime brands hosted there. Now they have gone major upgrading work to make it another look and feel.

I got to know thru a friend that Ido Ichi Japanese Cuisine is actually under the group which Azuma Japanese Restaurant is also one of theirs. When I arrive, I am surprise by huge crowd and have to wait for 20 minutes for a table. Seldom will see this situation happen in Penang and its located inside Island Plaza, that makes me curious.

Edo Ichi (2)

They are operating 2-3 lots that make the dining area spacious with a few sections including sushi bar and close up area.

Price here are pretty decent and I compare to another of my favourite brand Sushi Tei in Gurney, its pretty much similiar

Edo Ichi (5)

Then we ordered quite a lot for 5 pax and started of with Salmon Sashimi. Finely cut and its very fresh! @ RM 28

Edo Ichi (6)

For rolls, I would say that they have created their own signature style compare to others and tried both their Una Cheeze Maki @ RM 35 & Shake Mayo Mentai Roll @ RM 30. Both are equally good as ingredient are pretty generous and I like how the cheeze flavour makes it more unique with their own light sauce.

Edo Ichi (7)

I order something new that my friend have yet try is Tenderloin Cappaccio @ RM 35. It was all gone after I snap the picture. Thin slice beef that cut to perfection, with shoyu sauce and mayonnaise with the fine cut that makes it nearly melt in mouth. Order another plate again.

Edo Ichi (8)

Volcano Roll is not the best I have come across as I have tried better ones before. Overall, the cheese and mixture of ingredient in it is quite not bad for a Penang version. @ RM 28

Edo Ichi (9)

This is the fellow who always wanted to maciam maciam places!

Edo Ichi (11)

Sukiyaki is pretty good too with the soup base quite salty as what I have learn, flavourfull that serve along with fine cut beef slice. It will be perfect during rainy season.  @ RM 30

Edo Ichi (12)

Yaki Gyuza @ RM 8 both item is nice to go along as Gyuza here won many places that I have tried, by pan fried the base perfectly to golden brown and ingredient in it a bit solid.

Edo Ichi (13)

Both Fried rice are equally good and I prefer more Scallop Fried Rice @ RM 12. Very fragrant with garlic with wok hei. We add extra garlic into our rice to make it extra kick. Seafood Fried Rice @ RM 12

By the time comes to this Avocado Guratan  we are all very stuff. Ended up I finish all this. If you love cheeze potato and some seafood this would be ideal for [email protected] RM 18

Edo Ichi (16)

Kimuchi Ramen turns out to be pretty good, mild spicy and sour end with thin slice of pork in it. Ramen is slightly overcook and if they can make it al dante then would be perfect bowl of noodle. @ RM 18

At the end of the meal, it was a very satisfying dinner with great food. If you are looking for some nice Japanese Cuisine, this outlet certainly would be one of my recommendation.

On the 6th Day which is another shopping day request by the Girls, so we cancel all our sightseeing and spend our time mostly in the prime area for malls and the first stop for the day was MBK mall that we spend 5 hours there, from 10am – 3pm.. So walk around as everyone is very hungry and and saw this irresistible deal. Eat all you Can at ShabuShi Restaurant.

Shabu shi (1)

Had a quick breakfast in the morning and as all of them shop till forgot the time and stomach start growling, all of us start to hunt for food till we come over to this floor on the exit side we saw this sign – EAT all you CAn buffet.. every one say..go eat this one, damm hungry.. cow also can eat.. So we went in, and was request to use the front entrance. . .

Shabu shi (2)

Shabushi is a Restaurant offering Japanese Shabu shabu and Sushi for customers to enjoy at a very cheap rate I would say.

When we reach the front entrance, we were like OMG..so many ppl..siau eh~ and took our number, was told to wait 1 hour to come back, so we went to continue shopping and came back an hour after that.

Shabu shi (3)

Its a crowd mixture and one of the main thing that attracted so many people was the price of the buffet which is quite cheap. If I am not mistaken it is about 250 bhat nett per pax (if I remember it correctly) with given 90min/120 mins to dine.

Shabu shi (4)

We storm into the place and quickly place all our things on the table and start to attack on the food as given such a short time frame.

Shabu shi (5)

They have sushi bar counter seating or group seating with conveyor belt offering all fresh steamboat ingredients.

Shabu shi (8)

Many types of drinks available. . .they also have desert corner which I forgot to took a picture of it. .

This piece of meat is good with marinated sauce and corn in it. .

Shabu shi (18)

This is how pack our table is. . . The best part is on the conveyor belt, the chef was standing there and we were the last table on the corner and whenever he put new ingredients, we took all of it and till a certain time, he got piss off cuz other customer could not enjoy it and he went to the front to put all the new ingredient…kekekek~

Shabu shi (19)

This is how we eat our steamboat with Malaysian Culture and every one that walk pass by our table, look at us like dinosaur, as our eating steamboat habit is definately different compare to the rest of the people there.

Then after dining, Goft only told us that this is one of a famous Japanese steamboat buffet in the mall that attracted alot people go. If got chance when you are in Bangkok and would want to try something different, try out this Shabushi, value worth and the ingredients are all fresh and good! – REcommended!!

we had a very satisfying lunch that last us till late dinner. 😀

One thing is that you cannot compare the pricing and quality to Malaysia restaurant cuz they enjoy lesser taxes and that’s how Thailand industry grow so well ..

One of the latest crave that hit me is keep hunting for Japanese cuisine after watching that Hong Kong TVB sushi series – The Rippling Blossom. In that movie showing how to eat sushi in a way filled with temptations. Therefore, when I went back to Penang, on and off I still hunt for food and hear quite lot of my friends said that Azuma Japanese Restaurant which located in Queensbay mall in Penang serve quite good food in there, while waiting for my bus to depart back go KL, I went there with my family. .

In a very normal Japanese dining, will have the conveyor belt on the sushi bar which you can just pick and choose your favourite sushi and eat.. . .. They also do have private small cubical which is perfect for couple to be seated and huge dining area to host more people.

The menu offer is quite standard and prive is slightly above compare to other outlets  .. .

Eating Japanese food can consider everyone’s favorite, but how many of us are able to cook or make sushi? During my uni life at oversea, me and my housemate did try to make sushi ourselves by using our own logic to do it without find a proper recipe to go along with (which is very wrong) but then the meal turns out to be not so bad, the rice we did was using Japanese rice but not as sticky as it is compare to the restaurants.

This time besides eating nice sushi, now I had a chance to learn from the best from Chef Yanagida by teaching us make simple and nice sushis, eg: Nigiri Sushi, Tobiko Gunnkan Nigiri, California Roll and Inari Sushi. During the session, I had hands-on experience by in making the sushi, it was not that easy as I thought by looking at the chef at sushi bar wrapping it but I still prefer my responsible by just eating it.

One of the trick to make the rice sticky was to cook a . . . . . . (cannot tell) to make the rice sticky.

With Chef Yanagida vast experience he had come out with quality food with the Asian and Western Combination.
