I believe all of you must be curious like me why the place is name Tommy ThongChai? Who is this person or does he exist? Well, half of it is actually from a famous Thai Singer known as ThongChai, a Thai Scottish singer and actor known as Bird ThongChai. A place with its modern interior that certainly makes it a perfect hang out places with friends, especially with celebrations is even better.

Last weekend when my parents was in KL, my bro suggested to try out this place Baan Thai 2 Seafood Restaurant at Kuchai Lama as he mention that everytime he drove past, it is packed with people.

Baan Thai 2 (1)

Then we thought that to reach there at 6.15pm for early dinner to avoid massive queue. To my surprise, when we reached, there was already a bee line waiting to hit in and the restaurant is packed. By logic it could not be this good that less than 15 minutes there is this massive queue. Asked the counter guy he mention OPERATING TIME is from 12pm – 5am (NON-STOP). It just wow me for such an operating time.

Baan Thai 2 (2)

Baan Thai 2 (3)

This is the scene of 6.15pm. As we left at 7.30pm, the queue is even longer.

Baan Thai 2 (4)

Certainly this place is base on Feng Sui as the fountain is flowing in not out.

Baan Thai 2 (5)

Quite a huge seating space and separated into 4-5 pax seating area in the middle and big round table for bigger guest crowd at the side. Quite cooling for such a place with its automated big fan.

Baan Thai 2 (6)

Food that we order and I never expect the dish to be out at lightning fast speed. Upon we place order and for all the food to serve out is less than 10-15 minutes. For a full house crowd, I am certainly impress on this.

Baan Thai 2 (7)

BBQ Pork Stick @ RM 4 per stick. Turns out to be better than what I expected. Caramelize, soft and juicy.

Baan Thai 2 (8)

Baan Thai 2 (9)

Stir Fried Asparagus @ RM 20

Baan Thai 2 (10)

Steamed fish with Spicy Lime @ RM 45. Quite big for it size, sourish enough and the heat of spicy hits you at the end. Just perfect. Fish meat is fresh too.

Baan Thai 2 (11)

I guess many of you will love the tomyum. Not your usual ordinary as I think it is quite near to the Southern Thailand style cooking method like Hatyai. A taste that all of us will enjoy for a typical tomyum. Sourish yet the spiciness is there. The more you drink, the spicier it goes. Loving it! Tomyum Pork @ RM 20

Baan Thai 2 (12)

One of the best Phad Thai that I come across. Very classic street food that fried to perfection. Noodle is springy, slightly sweet in after taste with its fish oil, fragrant wok hei and the egg covers ontop is just nice. @ RM 10

Baan Thai 2 (13)

This is quite unique for all of us. Sour Curry with Shrimp @ RM 30. It is suppose to be curries but turns out more like a soup base. Love the omelette added in it as it does have hint of salted fish and layers of pressed omelettes soack with this sourish base, would be a best combo with their rice.

My parents enjoyed it alot and I must say for the total price is about RM 190 is quite decent and surely will come back again to try others. Indeed will be one of my recommended Thai Food in KL or one of the Best Thai food in KL.

There are actually alot of Thai Cuisine in Malaysia. We all just love Thai. Some of my friends heading to Thailand is like their yearly checkin for shopping and eating. When comes to Thai food, it is all the usual not till recently I tried this Rod Dee Ded at Uptown Damansara. This is just not your typical Thai food joint. Establish since 1965 in Bangkok and this would be their first outlet in Malaysia and they are operating in SS21, Uptown Damansara. Rod dee ded also means delicious.

Rod Dee Ded (5)

Rod Dee Ded Specialist in beef as the main ingredient, their broth is cooked for at least 12 hours. Also shower beef  is one of their signature dish. Ingredients are from Halal certified beef supplier. So for my muslim friends, here would be one of your destination too.

Rod Dee Ded (7)

Rod Dee Ded (9)

Fried Chicken wings @ RM 9.80 is a must order item here, which is exactly like street food in Hatyai. Just dont ask me why Hatyai as it instantly hit me in my brain for this connection. Fried to perfection that the skin is crisp, fragrant and taste like a classic street food in Thai. Dont miss this out.

Rod Dee Ded (10)

All beef for shower beef are Australian wagyu beef. 2 types: premium and prime wagyu

There are 2 ways of eating this.
1. Hotpot (original soup / Spicy soup @ RM 9.80 each)
2. Order as a la carte and pair with rice/noodle

Both of the soup have its own unique flavour, and if you ask me to really really choose one, then I think I like the original soup more. Spicy soup give you Umami taste. Imagine that the soup stock is cook with good quality beef bones for more than 12 hours.

Rod Dee Ded (23)

This is the signature of shower beef . A bowl is provided, then you put a few slices of beef onto the bowl and scoop the soup add into the bowl. Spoon the soup a few rounds, then pour it back into the pot and start all over again. Till to the texture and colour you like. Can be medium rare, medium or well done.

My favourite part of beef is Oysterblade – is a must order. Not many places offer this part. Texture is totally different. 100g @ RM 31.80, others we had were Striploin 100g @ RM 42.80 and Rib eye 100g @ RM 48.80.

They do offer this for lunch too. What you can do is ask the staff to cook for you if you are in rush yet you want to enjoy this great beef shower. It would be much faster as they know the tricks compare to us.

Rod Dee Ded (12)

Rod Dee Ded (29)

If you are not a fan of beef, you can check out their other dishes.

Rod Dee Ded (11)

Pad ka Pow @ RM 13.80. Very nice and fragrant basil taste. I used to hate it but along the years I learn to appreciate the taste. Those of you love strong basil flvour then this would be a perfect dish.

Rod Dee Ded (13)

Tendon is cook to perfection. Soft and slightly chewy.

Rod Dee Ded (14)

Rod Dee Ded (15)

Rod Dee Ded (30)

This is not the usual Pad Kee Mao that I always had. The noodle is slightly different.. It it wider and slightly thicker to give you a nice chewy texture. As it is brought in all the way from Thailand. The texture is not even close to our local koey teow.  @ RM 16.80. Give it a try, as I quite like it, where it is filled with wok hei.

Rod Dee Ded (31)

Stewed Brisket Clapot in steam rice . Love the fatty part of brisket and it is fragrant. @ RM 25.80

Rod Dee Ded (22)

Certainly one of a Thai shop that offer different offerings. Not your usual typical Thai food and most of the ingredients are all the way from Thailand.
