Time In My Life

Browsing

Month of Feb is one of the best month so far that comes with CNY and along with my Birthday. For the first time in my life so many friends celebrated my birthday with. Usually it doesnt hit more than 2 group of friends.I know its a bit sad but this is true fact. . . 😀

Another group of my crazy friend that invited me along for this dinner that they find that the food is fantastic. As most of them are also food lover, not to mention some of them are good drinker. If you are looking for some changes in your dining experience with a blend of South America, then here is one of the place to stop by.

LA Boca (1)

What does LA BOCA mean? Its a colourful seaport town in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a famed port of call for thousands of immigrants from Italy, Spain, and other European countries. Today, La Boca is the domain of the working class, bohemian artists, rabid soccer fans and tango street performers.

It is an authentic Latin American Restaurant & Bar famed for our friendly atmosphere, authentic Latino food & beverage, awesome latin music, personalized service (handsome waiters) and great parties. Our genuine South American atmosphere creates the ideal environment for special occasions and celebration parties.

LA Boca (2)

Love the restaurant interior design that they totally brings out the feel of South America, with hand painted original artwork depicting the rough brilliance of the houses in the Tango street of “Carminito” which was built with cast-off ship building materials and colourfully painted by the local immigrants.

LA Boca (3)

LA Boca (4)

LA Boca (5)

LA Boca (6)

They presented their menu in different style too, more like a mini newspaper

LA Boca (7)

Price of the food are pretty reasonable with the quality and serving . . .

LA Boca (8)

LA Boca (14)

LA Boca (9)

Striploin @ RM 68, apologize for this little slab of meat only as the rest were too hungry and started eating, and this is what I am left behind. Cook to perfection as per request medium rare that the beef is fresh and juicy, sprinkle with some spices that make the taste event better. If you are a beef lover, not to miss out on this.

LA Boca (10)

If you would want to hit some light food or diet then Cevichi Salmon would fall into one of my recommended list. Light in taste with sour tomato, sweet and spicy that enhance the taste of the salad that make it irresistible. The dressing that makes it stood out too.      RM 25

LA Boca (13)

LA Boca (12)

This is no ordinary pizza or that makes it a Argentinean folded pizza, Pizza Rellena @ RM 30

LA Boca (11)

stuffed with turkey ham, mozzarella, kalamata olives and basil. Not only that, it taste much better with the pairing sauce which I have forgotten to take. Its slightly on sour taste that pairs very well.

LA Boca (15)

I ask the rest what is good and Jason told me La Boca Burger is damm awesome. Then I follow suit and order. Serve along with thick homemade patty with special dressing and small cubes of mango. Meat is soft and mango with special sauce that make it slight sour base end. Perfect. Highly Recommended! @ RM 29

LA Boca (16)

when comes to traditional eating, of course must try out their signature authentic Fajitas @ RM 29. Serve in a hot plate that have a perfect blend of taste, chicken, mushroom, basil leaves and capsicum. A few slices of wraps are given separately for you to wrap on.

LA Boca (17)

Empanadas @ RM 21

LA Boca (18)

I would call it Argentinean Curry Puff. hehehe, with different filling more like white sauce, with mince meat, and dipping with the sauce gives another level of taste. I prefer to eat it original.

LA Boca (19)

Some say their Churros @ RM 15 used to be one of the best and for this round they change the texture of churros and many of them think their last one better. The current one is chewy and not crispy. If it is sprinkle with cinnamon sugar would be perfect.

LA Boca (20)

Louixe is also a Feb baby too . . She is getting excited. .

LA Boca (21)

Here am I, celebrating along with my best friend Louise who is also Feb baby, as her date is 2 days away from mine.

LA Boca (22)

It wouldnt be perfect if these guys are not here, with Jason, Kelly, Anna and Evelyn. thank you all for da dinner ~!~!~

LA Boca (24)

AFter that, we head to Tom Dick and Harry for second round as Mad Sally was the band that performing that night.

LA Boca (25)

These are the 2 inseparable earthlings. Not to mention Kelly had great voice to sing too, as she amaze many of the crowd that night by being guest singer for Mad Sally.

In Pavilion, if you are looking for some interesting food, then La Boca is certainly one of a recommended restaurant by me.

What did you do during last week of Malaysia Day? I guess some of you will have plans as its a bit long weekend for us. As for me, me and my friends heading wayyy south to Johor for holiday which by far the furthest I have travel down south is only Melaka. Pulai Desaru Beach Resort & Spa All of us work hard, just that once a while, we need to take a break, to cool us down, chill on more relaxing area then head back fresh, and the last round I took myself off was heading to Pulau Pangkor for a short stay. (click here)

Desaru (1)

One of the reason that we head down south for this stay is because, we have special arrangement with my friend that had called her up and every everthing for me. For being first time in this state, alot of things I want to discover and share out. When she send me the itinerary, I got excited that it is seriously fill with lots of visits and food to visit.

Well, after 3 n half hours drive from Kuala Lumpur, we had reach Pulai Desaru, whereby its a located on the east side of Johor that takes another 35-45 minutes drive from the city..

Desaru (2)

Pulai Desaru Beach had its new offering to public with 200 newly refurbish rooms to provide all holiday travelers with an ultimate comfort and lifestyle. This resort also had attracted a number of celebrity to stay here and most of the their guest from Singapore, which is very nearby. With their new concept, the resort have design their rooms in a few types with season colour and lovers wing. Part of it is to make holiday travelers enjoy their stay and would want some changes in their room ambiance, they can do so.

Desaru (3)

Desaru (4)

The newly refurbish lobby are build in contemporary style to bring modern ambiance to travelers.

Desaru (5)

A simple bar at the lobby with 2 pool table and draft tab is available for you too. . .

Desaru (6)

One of the thing I like the most is this hotel lift. Feels like you are heading into some where cool.

Desaru (7)

After checking in, I head back to my room. Its very simple, spacious and comfy.

Desaru (8)

Desaru (9)

Best of all, I have one of the best view facing garden swimming pool view that smack near right in the middle and on the highest floor.

Desaru (10)_resize

I like the toilet design which is just simple, and nice, bath tub is spacious too.

Desaru (11)

We do have welcome fruits in our room.

Desaru (12)

Then I went over to my friends room which they have a queen’s size bed and realize that, there are slight different compare to our room that the colour of the wall is different as this room is painted in orange, ours is painted in green and toilet design is also different. I only manage to catch up this 2 rooms.

Desaru (13)

night proceeds, then went down to do some photo shoot around the resort. . .

Desaru (14)

Desaru (15)   Desaru (16)

For family that bring kids here, they do have 2 sections for your kids to play around, this ping pong area, and a video game console which is attach next to it, that allow your kids to glue to their seats and you can go for a comfort swim.

Desaru (17)

For younger kids, they do have this little indoor play ground for them to play around as its covered with glass panel.

For the first time in my life, I came to Thailand to celebrate their New Year which is known as Songkran Water Festival which falls on 13th – 15th of April. It is now one of the most happening festival in Thailand during that period for the year.As I understand Songkran is something similar like Chinese New Year that it was traditionally a time to visit and pay respects to elders, including family members, friends and neighbors. People celebrating Songkran may also go to a wat (Buddhist monastery) to pray and give food to monks. They may also cleanse Buddha images from household shrines as well as Buddha images at monasteries by gently pouring water mixed with a Thai fragrance (Thai: ????????) over them. It is believed that doing this will bring good luck and prosperity for the New Year. In many cities, such as Chiang Mai, the Buddha images from all of the city’s important monasteries are paraded through the streets so that people can toss water at them, ritually ‘bathing’ the images, as they pass by on ornately decorated floats. In northern Thailand, people may carry handfuls of sand to their neighborhood monastery in order to recompense the dirt that they have carried away on their feet during the rest of the year. The sand is then sculpted into stupa-shaped piles and decorated with colorful flags. Some people make New Year resolutions – to refrain from bad behavior, or to do good things. Songkran is a time for cleaning and renewal. Besides washing household Buddha images, many Thais also take this opportunity to give their home a thorough cleaning.

People in a tuk tuk getting soaked during Songkran in Chiang Mai

The use of chalk (Thai: ????????) is also very common having originated in the chalk used by monks to mark blessings.

The throwing of water originated as a way to pay respect to people, by capturing the water after it had been poured over the Buddhas for cleansing and then using this “blessed” water to give good fortune to elders and family by gently pouring it on the shoulder. Among young people the holiday evolved to include dousing strangers with water to relieve the heat, since April is the hottest month in Thailand (temperatures can rise to over 100°F or 40°C on some days). This has further evolved into water fights and splashing water over people riding in vehicles. (abstract from wikipedia)

The usual fight that we will equip ourself during this festival which is no stranger to our childhood memories are widely used ‘Water Gun’, besides this, you can use a pail, or any item that can store water to splash it on people/ passer-by.

Lets head back to my story, continue of my previous post that during the eve for the night. After had walk around and nothing much to shop, then we decided to join the party as our newly bought water guy had pass it to Karen and the rest, Kenji and Me went back to the hotel to gear ourself up!

Songkran

This is our special op officer, Komando Kenji… warming up . . . . on the way back to our location, we were like half drench in water, as most people are at the road side with water and splashing every vehicle and human that pass them~

Songkran (2)

Can you imagine that kids were trained as young as 3 years old, he will be proffesional in a few years time~

Songkran (5)

At the scene with all gear up and wet. . . Before walking

After used too much energy and hand pumping on the guy, we were exhausted they have food hut around the area to fill in your stomach. Pretty interesting street food~

Songkran (15)

Songkran (16)

After the meal, we walked around the streets and saw this, 3 girls sitting on top and just pay 20bhat to get 5 balls, used it to aim and hit the poll to throw them into the water and my goowddd! the girl on the very left, she is head banging all the way non stop for like more than 15 minutes before we walk off and and she still continue. We were like, if it were us, were wont last more than 3 minutes and felt that our head will come out.

Songkran (17)

Then we walked to another end of the street and there is another stage there. One thing that we were impress is that every junction of the street there is the stage, therefore it covers the rectangular shape of the street that makes if 4 stages.

Songkran (18)

One of a famous Thailand group that when they came out, every one was screaming for them as for us we don know who is that also.

Songkran (19)

Songkran (20)

Then early next day, we woke up early and went to the street area again, Jonathan trying to be thrown down into the water and he said that the water stinks with pee smell. I guess yesterday night those drunkyards went there to pee after the place was close.

Songkran (22)

The festival start after 3pm and it was early morning that the ‘Fei Fu Dui’ (special op unit) are being deploy eveey where with full load of tut tut.

Songkran (24)

but then we decided to head for shopping for that day cuz there are many things that the rest wanted to buy. We were all wet when we reach the market, and walk till we were dry and wet all the way back to hotel.

Songkran (26)

As the night falls, we had become devil again and the street crowd is crazzyyyy.. Sardin Pack!

Songkran (27)

Songkran (28)

Tonight, we had decided to station at another base, which is directly infront of 7-11. For what reason, scroll down for more and we are ready to attack! The charm that we wear on our neck, based on their tradition is go help us cleans our body and make it like a brand new soul that to splash with water to usher a brand new year~

hatyai

This is how we ended up~

hatyai1

Drink till you pengsan, hang over, mati mati on the floor is a trend~ Keni is like not on this earth anymore, that we need to spray on him to make him wake up. . . (actually his eyes caught the chalk and its very minty that need to spray with water to open his eyes) – the white power that every one use to put it on our face is to mark a blessing.

Songkran (89)

The next morning before we pack up and head back, we went for last round of water fighting during the day time. It was the official day of the water festival and its more fun than the night before.

The war is even greater, with whole street, every one that pass by will be totally drench from inside out.

Catch: equip your water with ICE WATER! it just makes you shiver and jump like a monkey or stand there stun for a few second, if you got splash with a bucket if freezing ice cold water.

Road trip to Hatyai – Street food Hunting

I used hate Murni when I was in the college days because the taukeh speak only malay but cannot denied that the business had been whooping good and for the 1st time in my life that a chinese can open a mamak stall with such a good daily business and crowds. The shocking 1 was he conquer the whole street. Never seen in PG before. So recently been constantly me and my friends hang out area.
This is in my hot list favourite which is the ‘Spaghetti Carbonara. With the pricing of RM8 per plate, I am well satisfied with the serving comes in lost of sausages, chicken meat and of course lots of sauce and must tell them you want it hot. If not they will just take the ready made on the side area and pass it to you. That the QC would not be there and it wont be as nice as it is.
2nd in my Fav hotlist also the Roti Hawaii’. With the price of RM5 and the ingredient which they are not kedekut with, it is satisfying, filled with whole piece of chicken burger piece, small chicken cubes and pineapple. But today one was quite cold. So it taste so so only, usually it had one also not enough that type.

This drink I would never miss. Every time that I go, this is the only drink that I order and also in Jumbo size. It is the ‘Mango Special’. RM5 for this also. Filled with nata de coco, watermelon, longan and lychee. not only 1 or 2 pieces, it is many piece to stuff your mouth with.

‘Honey Dew Special’ will be next in the list as filled with the same thing but more milky abit thats what I feel. Compare to Mango, still feel mango taste nicer. RM5 for this.

Of course with the reasonable price and the serving is big, we do not mind coming back.

A dinner before heading to Beer Camp. So decided to come here after reading a review from Kennysia few weeks back. It was Valentine’s Day, so there were alot of people in every restaurant or every corner for couples to hunt for food. Must say that now days Valentine’s day is so commercialise. What ever it is, the pricing is crazee. Flowers, food, drinks and gifts. To me, honestly I would not spend the money on this occasion. I do not mind to be said that I am not romantic for this day only. The money spend can be used to spend on so many stuff which is more meaning full than the day it is.
I must say that, compare with the other restaurant chain they have in Pavilion and Sunway if not mistaken, this branch have quite a classy interior.
For non smokers out there, this would be the kind of place you would like to sit in, if you were to choose your seating’s, you can choose upstairs(highly recommended) and outside, good for smokers and with the candlelight on the table and dim lights certainly good for romantic dinner. Not only on Valentine’s day.

This is the bar area that they have. You can just drop by and chill at this area. Drinks price, no idea as I did not check it out.

This was under the Valentine’s set. In the morning I was criticising my colleague as those who go for Valentine’s day set is the stupid one. Guess, I was being stupid also as it was first time in my life doing so. As my friend she lazy to choose then decided to go ahead with the set. Still did not realise that I ordered the set. It comes with 2 glasses of wine. So ordered one red one white.

It start off with the starter. ‘Scallop & Oyster’. Must not complain as the plate was so big and the dish is so little. The scallop is fresh and nice along with the green green thing is something grean pea. The deep friend oyster I must say that it taste a bit weird with the dressing or some little thing that they put along when they fried and it took me a minute to finish those 2 things up.

Next, to wash your mouth a bit is the ‘Chicken & Herb Soup’. When it serve infront of us, me and my friend were so dissapointed. It feels like you go to a Chinese restaurant and give you the compliment soup to start off with. Lagi worst is the taste of it. Tasteless, so watery yet the colour already turn me of to finish the whole thing but well, still finish the whole thing as I believe in not wasting food.

After finishing the soup, there comes the main course. ‘Surf & Turf”. In the menu I thought you can choose what to eat, either each but then when it serve to me, I was so surprise that all 3 in 1. Like Nescafe 3 in 1. I cannot eat beef. Then SHIT..how? cannot waste, so talk to god and ask for discount for today only. The beef was Medium rare but then still taste okay only. tenderness and oily not juice. Regarding on the prawn it was so so only. The best among all those 3 was Chicken breast with barter garlic and butter. Have all the taste as it is mentioning.

Last and for all to close your meal with a sweet desert, tadaaa they r serving ‘Strawberry Parfait’. I pink pink thing is sweet and chocolate and strawberry is just as good as it melts. It comes to a price to pay for to get this desert as waited for around 1 hour to get it, not only this, It happens during paying bills. took 15-20 mins to come and 15-20 to get the bills and get the change back.
Overall, I was disappointed with the food quality but certainly will give chance to the ala-cart menu as I feel it is more worth it. AS the meal cost RM184 in total.
