Now Durian Season is back which is usually starts from June till August which is about 3 months and the most peak is half way through where lots of durian’s in different flavours are able to get especially the good qualities. . In South East Asia, Durian is known as the King of Fruits with its large size, unique smell also cover with thorns on its shell that a Durian can easily weight from 1kg to 7kg’s depending on types of it. Durian Buffet at SS 2

Durian is a love-hate relationship either you love it alot or you just hate it, as I am a durian lover of course I love it alot and looking forward for this once a year affair, some they just hate it so much as unable to bear the smell which is too strong for them to bear and I even have friends that smells it, they feel like puking.  As is only available in Asian’s countries especially in Malaysia and some of its neighboring countries of course I love this fruit alot.

ss2 durians (1)

The season already started bout 6-7 weeks ago and now reaching its peak as one of the famous spot to get Durian Buffet is located in the heart of SS2 – directly behind BHP petrol station you will get to hunt for at least 5-6 stalls. According to my friend, this stall was the only stall that operate in the area few years ago as with firsts of its kind to offer buffet style and then it had gain popularity among local crowd, more stalls come in to seize the opportunity. So we decided to go to its original stall which is the most crowded known as Durians SS2

ss2 durians (2)

For local type of durians, we are pampered with a lot of choices in types of flavours, durian meat texture, smooth, sticky, yellow colour meat, white colour, cream colour also with famous in the market now is Raja Kunyit or known as Musang King, Udang Merah and many more.

ss2 durians (3)

This would be my first time coming here to hunt for the buffet style as my brother told me previously that he had was a month ago, the buffet cost him RM25 but he had quite a satisfying one, as last night I went the price had went down abit with 2 choices to choose from:

RM 9 / RM 15 as what is the difference is that the quality of durian, of course we went after the RM15 which is not much different.

ss2 durians (4)

Even they have a chart for you to choose that filled with description or what kind of texture and flavour you are expecting . .

ss2 durians (5)

This is called D13 with yellowish solid skin, once bit it, its a bit sticky and very nice in aroma that burst in your mouth, that turn out the seed is pretty small and its sweet in taste.

ss2 durians (6)

This is another type of durian which I asked the guy and comes out a type of it which I havent heard before. .

Well, I would say for RM15 buffet we paid and with the quality we got, me and my friends are very satisfied with its quality, texture of the durian meat and the taste. If ask me is it worth, I would say super worth and we are planning to go again. – highly recommended. .

Once thing I was told by random durian seller that next year they going to increase in price as China will be importing our durians. . 🙁

so who is up for next round? Part 2 (click here)

PRICE:
RM 9 normal durians – guess its durian Kampung??
RM 15 better grades durians..
RM 20 premium grades durians. . (we have this for this round)

Weekdays all 3
Weekend only available RM 15/ RM 20 ONLY. .

I used to travel to Jakarta quite frequent and did event stay there for a month leisure and business few years back. Since then my Indonesian friend brought me tried out a lot of their local street food and it just taste good. Since then I am back here, the only shop that taste near to that country so far that I have tried is Waroeng Penyet and Ole Ole Bali but now, there is another restaurant called Little Warong Jakarta that newly open about a month ago that cater authentic Jakarta food that more towards Javanese.

[no longer in operation]

Jakarta

The restaurant is located nearby KFC and it wasn’t hard to find afterall..

Jakarta (2)

The whole place was decorated in more like a old classic kopitiam style as according to Remus, most of the shop that operate good food is have something similiar to this kind of ambiance. The wall are covered with many pictures of Jakarta from olden to modern days.

In Malaysia, when comes to Bulan Berpuasa (fasting month) there will be a quite a number of places we can hunt for variety local malay food with street long which we can enjoy it very much which is known as Pasar Ramadhan at Kampung Kerinchi (Bazaar Ramadhan). Most Muslims will go to this market or bazaar to buy what they would like to have for dinner with friends and family.

Therefore last weekend I just pass by Kampung Kerinchi and decided to take a peek what does this Pasar Ramahdan got to offer, as this would be my first stop afterall. There will be not much write up as more on pictures. . .

Kerinchi

As I was there around 5pm on my way back home.. the street market is packed with people doing last minute food hunting for buka puasa.

When I was taking their picture, every one of them like so happy and thought that I was from Chinese Newspaper most of the neighbouring stalls keep asking him to smileee..pose a bit yeng to be featured. . . . Not only that, the first thing that they mention that do I take pictures for Facebook?(this is what every stalls owner ask me)

You can get variety of drinks with my all time favourite is ‘Air Jagung’ (Corn Drink)

Kerinchi (10)

Chinese do have economy rice but this is the Malay style economy rice.

Kerinchi (11)

One of my favourite picture, working hard to slice the whole chicken which is ready to eat. I was tempted by the smell of it.

Being a Penang person, I have never really know that Penang actually do offer a lot of great food as I have written and known more of KL food rather than Penang not until recently CK introduce us this classic and wonderful place which is hidden in this very Tan Jetty.

I have always thought that this kind of place would be the residence area and also famous for wedding photography but just greatly discover that hidden a home cook Thai authentic flavour.

Thai Good

Thai Good (2)

You need to walk through this very small wooden bridge that used by the residence on bicycle, motorbike or on foot to reach their home.

Thai Good (3)

You just have to keep walking till the very last house of this stretch of the house.

Thai Good (4)

Its low tide when we reach there, and can you just imagine the heat and no sea wind during that time, can just melt.

Thai Good (6)

Till you reach this fence wooden house and my brother is introducing you the very authentic home cook thai food is discovered.

Not only about the food, is about the environment, as you are seated above the wooden house that build on the sea yet you get to enjoy your meal by overlooking the sea and smell the salty sea water and if its windy, would be even lagi perfect.

Thai Good (7)

This is all the houses in this area are build up.

Thai Good (8)

After meal, you can just down on the bridge to smoke and enjoy the scenery. A great place for photoshoot too~

Thai Good (12)

Thai Good (13)

Very next to the restaurant there is a Mini Temple yet hidden this very ‘Loh Bak’ stall that is quite famous with its local residence and the boss said that, they do cater for events too but only supplying loh bak. The loh bak is also one of the best as it was introduce by my friend few years ago during tea time.

The loh bak is filled with mince meat and spices added in to bring up the aroma of the meat yet it was fried in high temperature to get the crispiness of the skin and preserve the soft meat in it, with their very own chili sauce is just irresistible. Besides that, I love their ‘Cucuk Udang’ too, as it was fried crispy on the edge with flour and prawn is soft inside after fried on it. One word, good~ It was finish within seconds. RM1 for loh bak and RM 0.70 for ‘cucuk udang’ (if not mistaken)

Thai Good (14)

After chatting and laughing, we kick start our meal with ‘Fish Cake’ RM1.20 per piece. Looks simple but very solid on ingredient and dip with the thai chili sauce is just perfect~

Thai Good (15)

To open up our appetite, ‘Kerabu Mango’ is one of the choice must not miss for thai food. With the fine cut of cucumber, mango, carrot and top with bbq cuttlefish and added on with the dressing is will just make your taste bud sensitive with the well balance of sweet, sour, sweet and spicy.

Thai Good (16)

‘Thai Holy Basil Rice’ is next on the hit list. Something which is out of my expectation that something simple that had been cook so flavorful, basil leave did not overpower the chicken yet the chili padi added on make the spiciness level there but the catch is, do not underestimate it, as the first few bite it taste very good and upcoming bite the spiciness just shoot up and make us take a lot of water from the fridge. RM 4

Thai Good (17)

‘Deep fried fish’ fried with curry and curry leaves till dry and the curry taste stick on the crispy fish yet when eat it, its very flavorful. . Just cant stop eating.

Thai Good (18)

‘Belacan Fried Rice’ that top with sour mango slices, fried omelet, chili padi and balacan fragrance of the rice is detected. Another way to eat it, you can mix everything and eat it, will just make your sweat come out instantly. RM4

Thai Good (19)

‘Spicy Petai Chicken’ as I am not a big fan of petai but it was fried till the level I enjoy eating it. Dry curry sambal stir fried with big fresh prawns is just so good to eat it with a bowl of white rice.

Thai Good (20)

‘Tom Yam Fried Rice’ nothing special about it, as I have had better ones before. RM4

Thai Good (21)

I just love the taste of ‘Clear Seafood Tom Yam Soup’ as this is how the authentic flavor need to be, sourish and spicy with combination of the seafood ingredient just makes us want to have more than a bowl. From RM6

Thai Good (22)

Thai Good (23)

‘Pad Thai’ is abit sweet and moist as I prefer mine to be spicy and dry.

Thai Good (24)

‘Fried Kang Kung’ is not bad, and to go along with beer is just the right choice.

If you are looking for cheap and authentic Thai food, surely this is the place that I am highly recommending if you can withstand the heat and the spiciness.
