Nam Heong Ipoh is actually a well know coffee shop in Ipoh started since 1958, where is one of the place that I would drop by for their coffee. Now you folks out there, you do not need to drive all the way up to Ipoh as they had now open its door of at Da:Men USJ Subang. Serving all authentic Ipoh food with most of the ingredients are transported from Ipoh town itself.

For pippin hot tarts or anything serve out from the oven, they have a board up there telling you which batch are they.

Their menu is on electronic gadgets that sit right below in a wooden drawer of each table.

In Nam Heong, of course one of the drink that must not miss is their  signature coffee @ RM 3.80 or tea from the original location which is from Ipoh. Thick enough to my liking and taste exactly like Nam Heong in Ipoh, which later got to know they actually using the same recipe.

There is a slight twist in their local range as they have added in Sze Chuan Spicy Noodles @ RM 8.90, which their sauce base is slightly different from my usual one. First they use pan mee base noodle and follow by the soup base is slightly thick and starchy, lack of spicy and sourness that I would usually prefer, however there are some that like it.

From the Nasi Ganja, you can order additional Aromatic Indian Fried Chicken @ RM 5.90 if you would want to satisfy another cravings side of you. Well season and fried to perfection.

Nam Heong Ipoh Nasi Lemak. A pretty decent plate of local nasi lemak where the combination is with pandan rice, luncheon meat, sambal ikan bilis and cockles is spicy enough to my preference and for RM 12.90 at this kind of ambiance, I have no complain on it.

Ipoh Nasi Ganja @ RM 15.90

Nasi Ganja seems like one of a signature dish if you were to visit Ipoh. This nasi Ganja Stall is about 20 minutes drive away from Ipoh town where you have to queue for it. Then now, in this outlet, I am suggesting is one of a must order dish. Love the mild curry fragrant taste, where you can opt for more curry to be added . It is a great combination with, fried lemongrass chicken and salted eggs.

Besides all those, now they have Dinner menu that consist of Nam Heong Claypot Chicken Rice @ RM 24.90 (Set of Two) and Bak Kut Teh as below.

For their claypot Chicken Rice, they are using different method of cooking where you wont see any burnt rice like the usual, as this version is easier to scoop. I still prefer my claypot rice have those burnt edges and sticky at the base of the pot. Not bad as they have salted fish added up in too. Serve with Ipoh bean Sprout and fish paste soup.

Nam Heong Bak Kut Teh @ RM 32.90

Bak Kut teh is a very subjective taste preference is one of the widest by far, if you do not like heavy herbs taste, something which is mild and with a hint of little soy sweetness, then this might be your choice, as this bowl serve with pork ribs, and pork belly, mushroom, braised eggs, Ipoh bean sprouts , fried fritters and white rice. It is a perfect dining for bak kut teh lover.

Other desserts that we tried like Pudding and Ipoh ABC, I like their toufufa the most, that serve along with ginger sugar, and the texture of toufufa is smooth enough to my taste preference.

Operate by a young chap, Nic with a vision to provide good food quality, this is how Bedrock Restaurant & Cafe came about. Located in this busy district, Taipan, constantly you will find parking is an issue and however, if the food is nice, food hunters will always find their way thru to get into their ideal destination.

On the side note, there is a multi story carpark located right behind the shop.

A cozy cafe that located on the first floor which is directly above Nan Yang Kopitiam, that is filled with natural lighting. Nic know that his shop do have strong sun light during the evening and he is looking to add more nice decor into it.

My Latte is very decent as coffee is not their main concentration as food is their priority.

Started out with Salted Roast Chicken with Mashed Potato @ RM 18. I must say, I am impress with this as its cook to perfection, superb moist and tender texture plus a crisp roasted skin. Slightly salty for me but pairing with mash potato is just right to reduce the taste out.

After some DIY, Bedrock’s very own version of Kedgeree @ RM 12, to me it is serve like a beautiful ship top with some eggs, lemon at the side to add some acidic flavour and also to tone the spices out. This food do beats some of rice that I have tried before.

Another common dish that most of the cafe would start to have is this Baked Eggs @ RM 16 served with in house baked bread slice was a charm, sprinkle with some herbs along that makes it quite flavourful and aromatic. He found a way to make it serve out faster by cooking on the stove.

Portion is decent but quite generous with the ingredient. Flavour is punchy sour and not bad.

Primavera @ RM 15 served in linguine pasta is one of the best to have. Love their sauce, cheese and pasta cook to just right to my liking and portion is decent. – recommended.

For dessert lover, they come out something slightly different which is  Peanut Butter and Jam French Toast @ RM16 topped along with their homemade ice cream.

Love their homemade ice cream as slightly creamy, soft and just nice. Do not mind to come back here for only their ice cream.

Instead of french toast, you can opt to choose the base of  Pancake @ RM 12 served with very lovely drizzle of chocolate on top of the generous scoop of ice cream and banana slice.

I am impress with their food quality and surely do not mind to return again for more as they are planing to have new menu soon. Best of all, the mastermind Nic is the one that coming out all these with his own recipe.

One thing I got to know that One City is one of the latest talk in town among many Subang/USJ folks as this new mall is cerntainly one of its kind that offer roof top dining and also house a few interesting F&B in this area. One of the cafe I have tried is Bread & Brew which is two doors away from here.

Charlie Chaplin which is a famous public figure back in the 18th century whereby he is the main Mr.Bean at that time. With his funny act that made him an icon during that time and that brings this Charlie Chaplin International License Cafe to Malaysia.

 Menu is pretty direct whereby is not much to choose from and price is slightly high but this is what you are paying for such a concept cafe. . .

As we saw the coffee range, we try to be adventurous and turns out to be quite a unique experience for both drink. Coffee Champagne @ RM 12 as the taste is just does not blend at all and its too sweet to my liking.

Behind it is Black Forest Ice Mocha also turns out to be quite disastrous in taste. Maybe some of you might like it. @ RM 16

Since the 2 drinks did gave us a set back to even try further but what tempted us is that the amount of dessert ordered during that hour is alot. Then decided to try the safest pick which is Cheezecake Mango @ RM 16.

This turns out to be good. Cheese is moist enough, soft and aromatic with well balance cheeze taste which is not overpowering and the base of it is just right, not too thick yet pair well. Worth recommending!

Creampuffs anyone? Remember that I was a kid that any of my friends birthday party surely would have creampuff under their desserts section, and surely I would take one piece to try it before I take more. It was such a trendy thing back in those days and now, I must say it had been replace with so many other creative baker that are available in the market at the moment. Kee’s Creampuff is one of them.

With that thought, of course there are still many strong believer in their puffs when comes to another shop that I was introduce by a friend to check it out and before I came over I Google it to check is it worth my trip here. Afterall, it was worth it.

Creampuff to many people is like those traditional that its either plain or with custard, and we order quite a bit to try out and till the owner, Kenneth came out and greet us after watching us busy taking picture from the kitchen.

Then get to learn further from him that they actually started off online 3 years ago and since then their business grow till they decided to open a shop 9 months back to cater for more crowd, from homebase now to little shop with huge kitchen.

Then the owner even print and frame out bloggers article and pictures that were written about them and feature on the wall.

I find the price range are very reasonable as also further understand that all their products are made fresh even down to ingredient as he and his mom R&D the fillings. They have quite a wide selection for a puff.

If you are here for afternoon tea, they even have a set for you to choose from, ranging classic to premiums.

You can choose any of the flavours from the fridge then they will place order to the kitchen to make everything fresh from in there to you. Waiting time is couple of minutes.

 These 2 are actually my favourite with Chocolate Banana turns out to be another favourite as fragrant of fresh banana and the chocolate pairs well together make it good to have more & if you are a fan of Peanut Butter like me then  another flavour you should not miss as they have slightly tone it down and peanut taste is rather strong to my liking.

 super star of the range exactly like eating, Durian which is also one of their best seller @ RM 2.50 per piece.

No doubt that their range of puff are pretty impressive, with all the different fillings that they have added into making it more savory and spoilt for choices. The puff are soft and airy, that make in a perfect bite size. I just put one piece into my mouth and munch. If you are getting this for dessert , then this is the flavour I would recommend

Love their Lemon Cheeze as its very smooth and light sourish end with the crust at the bottom is just at the right solid and crunchy texture that will surely pairs well for afternoon tea. Worth to give it a try.

 Chamomile and I must say that their tea is very fragrant.

  • The classic creampuff is at RM 1.50 per piece and with flavours cost RM1.80 per piece.
  • For purchases of more than 10 pieces, you will enjoy a 10% discount from the total price.

At the end of the day, tapau durian and it was gone before I reach home. Flavours that I like really subjective and its up for you to try them out.~

Remark: the puff are made fresh and it will last about 2 days only and for Durian is about 2-4 hours.

Last year, me and my friends headed to try out Restaurant Super Kitchen Chili Pan Mee which is located at Puchong (click here)  as this pan mee version is famous among the neighbourhood on its dry version that you are able to add in the amounths of chili you want into the noodle. If you are a spicy lover, you would just love its version of spiciness. .

Then there is a pot of chili flakes put right on the table for you to add on . . If you cant eat spicy please just go with 1 spoonfull of chili, as my friend they can eat their spiciness they go as far as 5 spoonfull of chili flakes down to their noodle . . For me, I KO’ed on 2 n half spoon . . .

My first try on Vietnamese food was during my college time where there is one quite famous Vietnamese restaurant at Taipan, USJ which is called Vietnam Kitchen. Went to this restaurant quite frequent and I love their soursop drink a lot! Wondering is the restaurant still there and is the quality still the same? Till my very last exposure which I had a satisfying meal was at Pho Hoa months back.

Then recently got a chance to try out their food again, but this round I try out their food at the very wrong time which during 9th God festival which I am on vegetarian.Then my friends they request the kitchen to do vegetarian for me. I plan to go sit and migle around mana tau kena makan.

Drinks to start of with ‘Vietnamese Dripping Coffee’ and if you are looking forward to be caffeinated then this is a good drink to go after. RM5.95

Something thick and creamy yet not that sweet ‘Blended Fresh Avocado Juice’ not my type of drink but still alright. RM7.95

I cannot remember what is the last drink called but I love it, gassy, yet a bit diluted feel but with asam that pulls in the taste of it.

All of us waiting patiently for our food to come and been explain by a friendly host. He is really a great guy.

As I remember when I was studying in Melb I used to hate this a lot because of the vegetable ingredient that they use and my housemate used to ta pau a lot back because he work in a restaurant till my Vietnamese friend teach me how to enjoy it and now it had become one of my favourite.

‘Summer Roll Shrimp, Chicken, Salad & Rice Vermicelli’ RM3.95 per roll as it was wrap solid as it is and you must dip it with the dipping sauce(taste something like, ‘Shrimp paste/penang rojak paste’) to make it very flavourful. Mine this round was pure vegetarian roll. Still as good as it is.

We had a mini version of the appetizer is for food tasting purpose making sure we enjoy most of it.

As this round me on vegetarian,so got no chance to try out but only to see and swallow my saliva but based on my previous food outing, the sugar cane prawn was grill and very aromatic.

 

When it comes to Vietnam food, beef is always their signature. It would be best to eat with beef as ‘Beef Pho with combination of Steak, Brisket, Flank, Tendon and Tripe’ @RM16.95 which is my all time favourite that all the lembu spare parts are in there. The soup base is clear and sweet as it taste like the parts had been cook along in it for hours.

As today I am hunting for healthy food concept, the next serving would be ‘Vermicelli with Veggie and Grilled Chicken’(mine without the chicken) RM12.95. To best eat it is to pour the gravy in, and mix it around like rojak then you eat. Something light and healty which fill in your taste bud with a bit of sour, sweet and clear feeling for you. The chicken meat is to pull up the taste of the veggie which goes along very well with it as what I have been told.


My vegetarian version.

I love my fried taufu very much as it is, fried to perfection to my likings that the outer layer is a bit solid crust crispy and the inside is soft and hot yet the show the taufu with the Vietnamese sauce is just heavenly.

Besides that, they do have ‘Seafood Noodle Soup’ as I did not try out this one, so cant really comment much on this.

Lastly, we got serve with ‘Net Spring Roll with Ice Cream’, a simple ice cream with fried yam that taste very yammmy which makes a perfect couple. RM5.95.

When comes to Vietnam Food, certainly this is in my list to recommend.
