There are only a handful of Vietnamese Restaurant in KL. An Viet is one of the shop that I constantly visit whenever I am thinking of my Vietnamese cuisine. I still remember that I visited their The Gardens outlet when they first open its door many years back and I never blog about it over the years.

An Viet (2)

Menu is not huge, where the most important is my beef noodle.

An Viet (4)

If you are entering this shop for the first time, you can actually see there is a pot of fresh basil leave on every table. On my first thought, I thought they were for decoration but I am wrong. It is for you to pluck your fresh basil leaves and add into your noodle.

An Viet (5)

An Viet (7)

Well, now they have started their #nostraw initiative as all the drinks are serve without straws. Drinks that I usually order are:

SINH TỐ DỪA – Ice Blended coconut @ RM 10.90 & TRÀ CHANH BẠC HÀ – Iced Lime & Mint Tea @ RM 8.90

An Viet (8)

BÁNH TRÁNG NƯỚNG – Grilled Rice Paper with Minced Pork @ RM 9.90. Something simple to start off with as this dish still quite consistant over the years. Paper thin skin wrap with their marinated mince pork.

An Viet (24)

This is one of the crowds favourite which you can give it a try too. CANH CHUA NGAO NƯỚC DỪA Clam in Coconut Broth @ RM 14.90. Soup is quite solid in taste and clam is fresh. Love the balance of taste of lemon grass which is not overpowering that can taste the actual broth base.

An Viet (9)

This is one of my favourite that I like. PHỞ BÒ ĐẶC BIỆT – Vietnamese Beef Noodle Special with Raw Beef, Beef Brisket, Shank, Tripe, Tendon, & Homemade 100% Pure Beef Ball @ RM 23.90

An Viet (10)

Beef cut is good and let it cook in this hot soup broth. If you like your meat to be slightly more cook, you can always take this beef slice and hide it under the noodle for 2-3 minutes to get it done. Soup is clear, that you can taste the sweetness of the broth and with add in beef parts, it is just perfect!

An Viet (11)

So now this is the actual usage of the plant. Pluck from the pot of basil leaves then added it into your bowl as much as you like. The little side bowl with clear water is not a drinking water as the purpose serves for you to wash your fresh basil leaves.

An Viet (12)

An Viet (13)

Then added it into your bowl of pipping hot beef noodle. Yumz!

An Viet (14)

BÚN CHẢ : Hanoi Style Grilled Pork with Vermicelli @ RM 18.90 is good for sharing as this is slightly quite unique compare to what we usual have. Grill pork is soft and tender and the soup base for this vermicelli pairs just well.

An Viet (15)

An Viet (16)

Those that do not want too heavy meal, then you can opt for Banh Mi – Vietnamese Baguette is one of the best seller in the outlet. @ RM 14.90

An Viet (17)

An Viet (18)

CHẢ CÁ LÃ VỌNG – Hanoian Style Fish with Turmeric & Dill @ RM 23.90

as this would be my first time trying it. Turns out to be good as the flavour of it quite balance and gives you a herb taste finishing. Cuz of the ingredient that they are using and they have dill on the dish. Fish also did not over cook and softness of the meat that soak on the flavour will certainly be a good pairing for rice.

An Viet (19)

This is one of my favourite snacks. I find it very interesting and good. XÔI CHIÊN PHỒNG – Deep Fried Sticky Rice Puff  with Green Mango Salad  & Grilled Lemongrass Chicken @ RM 14.90 A dish that is carefully crafted and not easy to be cook into a nice round globe shape yet it must have be like near paper thin that you peal on the crust it cracks easily.

An Viet (20)

As you crack open the globe snacks, glutinous rice is smack at the center of the base to act as the holder of the sphere. This is how I eat it. Crack the done, and grab some of the glutinous rice then eat it. just perfect. Chewy and slightly crispy. If you eat it with the lemongrass chicken, it will give you another layer of flavour.

An Viet (21)

An Viet (22)

To end your meal, can always opt for their  VIET-FFOGATO – Condensed Milk Ice Cream with Vietnamese Coffee @ RM 9.90

An Viet (23)

Or my personal favorite : CÀ PHÊ TRỨNG – Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Egg @ RM 9.90. Wish that I could have 1 more egg to make it more perfect. Give you just the right creaminess and smoothness while sipping it.

An Viet (6)

well They also do have something for you to purchase off like their paper rice roll, fish oil and others.

Craving for Vietnamese food, An Viet is one of the place that I turn to.

I have always been a fan of Vietnamese food, as I had alot nice one when I was at oversea. Well, still nothing to be compared. When this shop open few years back, I have heard much good feedback from my ex colleague when they went to dine there with clients. One of the set back was, its a bit pricey to dine there then timing was right a while ago as they were doing promo and decided to stop by with a group of friends.

sao nam (1)

Sao Nam is easily located at LG of Empire Shopping Mall.

sao nam (2)

sao nam (5)

For a Vietnamese Food, they really offer quite a unique range of food compare to any other restaurant that I have been too.

sao nam (8)

Of course when you are in this shop, Prawn Spring Roll (6pcs) @ RM 18 its pretty classic item to order or one of the dish that represent Vietnamese food. Roll up pretty well with the sauce to dip along and prawn is fresh~

sao nam (9)

I am not sure I put this name on the correct picture or not as Banana Flower & Chicken @ RM 20 its one of a good appetizer to start off with. It was gone within seconds as it has a bit of sourish, and sweet end. Just perfect.

sao nam (10)

I read many review, this is one of a dish that highly recommended by many people and same goes to me. Mangosteen & Prawn Salad @ RM 32 is a very unique salad that I have come across, they used Mangosteen to pair it as we thought it was weird at first then, the flavour is sour with their special sauce make it very good to go along with the prawn.

sao nam (11)

Vietnamese Pancake @ RM 26

sao nam (12)

When this is serve, it looks and smells good but taste differently. Part of it is with the dressing that they have in there. I do not really like it but some of my friends love it.

sao nam (13)

Rice Rolls Lotus Leaf (6pcs) @ RM 21

sao nam (14)

sao nam (16)

If you are having rice and Lamb Curry @ Rm 34 is a must order. Thick in curry gravy with lamb cubes are cook till soft. A bit sweet and spicy and those of you do not like the taste of lamb do not order this. Its quite strong even you can smell it, according to my friend.

sao nam (17)

Chicken Lemongrass @ RM 20 is another dish that you can consider even ordering. The soup that cook along is fragrant with mild lemongrass taste that I would rate it like Steam Chinese Wine chicken but this is Vietnamese version.

sao nam (20)

Imperial Lotus Leaf Rice @ RM 18

sao nam (21)

Sweet Potato Leaves @ RM 12

sao nam (22)

Friend Tofu @ RM 22

sao nam (18)

sao nam (19)

In Vietnamaese Food, of course we must try out their Hue Beef Noodle Soup @ RM 18, soup is sweet with thin noodle and few beef slices to go along. Pretty good though.

No doubht that this place do provide nice Vietnamese Food, and if you are willing to pay a bit more, you can even consider this place for dining.

My first try on Vietnamese food was during my college time where there is one quite famous Vietnamese restaurant at Taipan, USJ which is called Vietnam Kitchen. Went to this restaurant quite frequent and I love their soursop drink a lot! Wondering is the restaurant still there and is the quality still the same? Till my very last exposure which I had a satisfying meal was at Pho Hoa months back.

Then recently got a chance to try out their food again, but this round I try out their food at the very wrong time which during 9th God festival which I am on vegetarian. Then my friends they request the kitchen to do vegetarian for me. I plan to go sit and migle around mana tau kena makan.

Drinks to start of with ‘Vietnamese Dripping Coffee’ and if you are looking forward to be caffeinated then this is a good drink to go after. RM5.95

Something thick and creamy yet not that sweet ‘Blended Fresh Avocado Juice’ not my type of drink but still alright. RM7.95

I cannot remember what is the last drink called but I love it, gassy, yet a bit diluted feel but with asam that pulls in the taste of it.

All of us waiting patiently for our food to come and been explain by a friendly host. He is really a great guy.

As I remember when I was studying in Melb I used to hate this a lot because of the vegetable ingredient that they use and my housemate used to ta pau a lot back because he work in a restaurant till my Vietnamese friend teach me how to enjoy it and now it had become one of my favourite.

‘Summer Roll Shrimp, Chicken, Salad & Rice Vermicelli’ RM3.95 per roll as it was wrap solid as it is and you must dip it with the dipping sauce(taste something like, ‘Shrimp paste/penang rojak paste’) to make it very flavourful. Mine this round was pure vegetarian roll. Still as good as it is.

We had a mini version of the appetizer is for food tasting purpose making sure we enjoy most of it.

Lemon Grass Chicken @RM7.95 per plate of 4 sticks
Fried Roll @RM3.25 per roll
Sugar Cane Prawn @RM7.95 per plate of 4 sticks

As this round me on vegetarian,so got no chance to try out but only to see and swallow my saliva but based on my previous food outing, the sugar cane prawn was grill and very aromatic.

When it comes to Vietnam food, beef is always their signature. It would be best to eat with beef as ‘Beef Pho with combination of Steak, Brisket, Flank, Tendon and Tripe’ @RM16.95 which is my all time favourite that all the lembu spare parts are in there. The soup base is clear and sweet as it taste like the parts had been cook along in it for hours.

As today I am hunting for healthy food concept, the next serving would be ‘Vermicelli with Veggie and Grilled Chicken’(mine without the chicken) RM12.95. To best eat it is to pour the gravy in, and mix it around like rojak then you eat. Something light and healty which fill in your taste bud with a bit of sour, sweet and clear feeling for you. The chicken meat is to pull up the taste of the veggie which goes along very well with it as what I have been told.

My vegetarian version.

I love my fried taufu very much as it is, fried to perfection to my likings that the outer layer is a bit solid crust crispy and the inside is soft and hot yet the show the taufu with the Vietnamese sauce is just heavenly.

Besides that, they do have ‘Seafood Noodle Soup’ as I did not try out this one, so cant really comment much on this.

Lastly, we got serve with ‘Net Spring Roll with Ice Cream’, a simple ice cream with fried yam that taste very yammmy which makes a perfect couple. RM5.95.

When comes to Vietnam Food, certainly this is in my list to recommend.

Thanks to Richard for organizing and thanks to Sidney for inviting. My last review on the shop, click here

This is my first time step into this mall, interesting which is the mall is still brand new and the wonderful thing is the parking is free. Lol. As I thought this shopping mall would be a very nice place to shop but it turns out to be like another Mid Valley, but of course what interest me the most is there are alot of types of restaurant in this mall which other place do not have and there is one restaurant tat I first saw was the famous Japanese restaurant from Indonesia has landed here. It is Sushi Tei. Which my Indonesian friends always bring me to eat when I visit them at Medan or Jakarta. Will try next round.

But back here, was very hungry and was late in the afternoon. So was walking around and looking around on all the restaurant available. What makes me choose this 1 was it was Vietnamese food and it has been along time since I last eat a nice Vietnamese food and the staff there was very friendly when I was standing and browsing through on the menu, one of the guy which is not local, came out and introduce me all their signature item and that had attracted me to go in because of the guy.

But from the outlook itself I had already made my choice up already and just that wanna go see what are the other choices of food available in the mall since it is not big.

Surprisingly, it is a large franchise chain as it stated all the places that it had branches in the country. Open kitchen concept.

Their seating area also very comfortable and with a bit like bamboo on the wall which makes like a bit natural and jungle feel.lol~
It even had a website to visit for further detail of franchise opportunity and the company background itself.
A traditional type of Vietnamese food menu. Do not need many fancy pages only 2-4 pages. Done. Which they are always famous for their beef noodle. Signature I would say but damm, I cannot eat beef…*drooling because of praying. Not superstitious but a piece of advice from ppl around me.
When I saw this in the menu, thought of it was very unique ‘Vietnam Coffee Milk & Ice’. So order included when it came, surprise me also, the coffee is like freshly brew and was like dripping inside as they pour the hot water from the top and drop. Very strong and nice coffee smell although I am not a fancy coffee drinker as it brings me the opposite effect(means sleepy). The ice they gave me was like the whole glass they put into the frozen area and brought it out I thought that they are giving me a beer mug but nope for me to pour over and the best is they help me to mix it and it taste perfectly nice. RM4.90 for this cute little thing.
As for traditional Vietnamese food which I never miss which is the entree, ‘Summer Roll’ or what I called it Vietnamese popiah..lol~ of course when you start to eat, you have to put alot of the thing in the sauce plate. It goes on very well, it gives me the feel like eating in one of the best restaurant when I was in Melb. RM3.55 for this.
Hrmmm…..here comes the main dish, a very traditional and signature of Vietnamese food or which I would say must try, the ‘Vietnamese Noodle(brisket, tendon, and another 2 cow parts) which I claim to be the cow spare parts. If you love spare parts, you gonna love this food and in the menu, let you choose on which part of the beef you want. Some comes in a combo. Last time I usually take combo which means everything also have. hehe. The soup is just very nice and sweet full with the base of the beef soup that I am expecting. I did curi try to drink the soup abit and my friend finish the whole bowl. Yummy good as what was said.RM15.99
This is my dish as I cannot eat beef (damm disappointed) but then this looks good also. Comes with 2 popiah and chicken which is called ‘Grilled Chicken & Fried Roll’. I did not start to eat the rice first but this time try to eat the chicken. When the first bite into my mouth, I was like…ermmm…..damm nice taste of the chicken, perfectly grilled and the enough taste on the chicken with its own seasoning. When tried on the popiah, took the whole thing into my mouth and spit it out again as it was too hot. hahah(tam samcantonese) but taste not bad. RM12.99 for mine. As total bill came into RM41.15 as I think the price is very reasonable.
The friendliness of the staff there had been very helpfull and the captain came by and ask us how is the food there as he wants to get some feed back as it is newly open. Of course my feed back was more than satisfying never got disappointed.. Will come and dine again by introducing more friends and blog food readers. 😉
