Western Food

Most of the time when I am back to Penang, I would always try to dine in this place or my friend would eventually suggest this place also. This western food stall is quite well known to alot of people in Penang for its price, serving and the quality but it is always a pain in the ass as have to wait quite long.

This is the point where you order your choice.

With the price list and variety available, it sure wont disappoint you.

I do not know why, most of the time I would order this ‘Mushroom Soup’ which had a style of its own, taste a bit like Campbell soup but with their own recipe, a bit thick in flavour yet a very small pieces of mushroom chunks in it and also button mushroom slices. RM3 (if not mistaken)
‘Chicken Chop’ which happens to be one of our favourite in our ordering since from high school till now. A very plain style but the best thing was the gravy that shower on it. Well fried with crispy on the outer layer yet the chicken taste soft in the inside. RM6.50

‘Chicken Maryland’ not my type of order which comes out to be everything very dry, but my friend do like it very much. RM8

My usual order ‘Mixed Grill’ RM15 which had a price increase already but still with the amount of meat I got no complain, as it comes with lamb, pork, beef, bacon, egg and sausages. One plate is enough to kill me. My order of this as I always request for the ‘Chicken Chop Gravy’ which goes along with it perfectly.

Advisable to go there early or after 11 to avoid long wait. If you are very hungry, I would not advise to go there also. The usual wait if you are lucky 20 mins is the fastest. One of my favourite place to look for western food, which I still think the price is quite cheap. This place is very easily spotted as its just right on the roadside. Recommended~

Wow, I just could not believe that I would travel so far for lunch as I was told that there is a nice food in that area so just fly by…As when I walked in, I was like ‘Wow!!! so many people here, guess that the food must be nice’ on second thought or it is the nearest place to eat here. Lol. On the menu, they have a set lunch set so decided to try by, since I see so many people order where as when I saw in the menu, the lunch is very reasonable…..
One of my friend order Marmite Chicken Chop Rice’ when it got served it look someting simple yet tempting, but seriously….the flavour of the chicken is nice~ Nicely deep fried and a bit of spicy, the taste is there. Just cost RM8.90 for the set lunch set as it comes with a drink. So okay lah~

Wah lau~ this I must say my most highly recommended Charboil Chicken Chop’ grilled to perfection, no burn on the chicken, soft and tender and of course the best part of all is the Mushroom sauce gravy. One gravy is not enough, ask for 2!!!! to satisfaction~ RM11.30 for this lovely dish. My next target is the chicken chiiop~~

This is what I have order in the set lunch set which is Teriyaki Rice’. Should not have order this when it came I was asking my friend, what did I order ha? Vegetarian set ga? they laughed. It was the teriyaki cabbage more than the chicken. Well, It just just normal on this dish, not salty enough, the chicken is nicely cooked but then aiii..okay la..cuz tried the 1st and 2nd food nice already and it comes to mine, you know..a bit down~ Well, my set cost RM10.90.

Overall, I think that the western food is nice. Next round will come and try it. Tempting~

AT LAST I manage to find back this western food stall which were located beside Green House Kopitiam, which my friend introduce to me famous for its Corden Bleu…Then let my friend kutuk me saying I outdate, they have been here for quite some time d.

Their kitchen looks more like a good western food stall already.

This is their menu with limited choice to choose from and those in red are consider their signature. They have slightly increase in price which I think is reasonable as the last time I dine was bout 6 years ago. Lol

Again I ordered ‘Mushroom Soup’. Which the price thought of just try la… Very nice and creamy, quite alot of mushroom slice in there as every scoop you took up there will be mushroom in there. RM4 only.

The next order was ‘Ribeye Steak’ medium rare. I got shock when the portion was serve. I am like ‘wowwww, so big piece punya lembu’.. I cant take beef so no comment on this as I get to know this is one of the nicest also mention by my friend as not many hawker area western food can cook something out like this. RM19.50 for this fat ribeye.

This is of course my favourite back in those donkey days. So I ordered back the same thing. ‘Chicken Corden Bleu’. When got served I was quite happy with the condition, as expected dry and golden brown. Once I use my knife cut it open, the cheeze in there start flowing out, you know like those water overflow, someting like that. It is stuff with ham and cheeze. With the first mouth into this mouth watering bleu, it just taste as nice as back in those days. Still have not dissapoint me after last ate it. Still have the cheeze taste yet you can still taste the ham and chicken with the strong aroma after being stuff in there and fried. Cost RM9 which I think is reasonable. The last time I ate was RM6.50 6 years back.

Revisit this restaurant as it has been years since dine in here. It was about 4-5 years back when my buddy’s sister brought us here to eat and as I remembered it does not look like this. They have renovated. Decided to try again here.

It was during in the afternoon lunch time, so there were not much people in this restaurant but it is sure nice to sit and chat with friends here. From the food wise, I would rate it something like Madam Kwan.

In the drinks menu, what caught my attention was this, ‘Coconut Mint Float’. Something unique. If you are here, I would highly recommended this drink. Has a scoop of ice cream and blended of the coconut meat and the taste of the mint and coconut goes along very well. Was not too sweet, just perfectly good for a refreshing drink price at RM8
For the ‘Chicken Chop Set’ comes with a bread. The bread was warm and just toasted but it do not have the bread taste and smell. The bread is not nice. Taste so plain even with the butter.RM15.50

The chicken chop sure do look very plain. It is like you can get it in any of the roadside or coffee shop western food. Looks even better. It is perfectly fried with the crust is crispy. The chicken cooked is soft on the inside. The veggie is nicely steam.

My order is the Nasi Bojari. I can’t take beef so change to curry chicken piece. I must say that this is a bad food. To compare with Madam Kwan, it is 10x much nicer. The cannot be denied that the chicken is nicely fried but it has a strong chicken smell, which did not wash properly and it was very salty. The curry chicken is so thick in ‘santan‘ taste which make it a bit too sweet for it. The ‘Nasi‘ is very dry and very salty also. I think the salt in the restaurant is very cheap. The prawn was not fresh and I did not finish this dish. Total FAILURE and it was very expensive. RM21.

Since the chicken chop is so dry and did not comes with a gravy so order the ‘Mushroom Sauce’. In my life I have never eat before such a bad mushroom soup. Which the taste has very strong Chinese herb in it. Do not taste anyting like mushroom soup. More like when we have fever and you go to Chinese medicine shop and you boil it. Here, drink it all. Something like that. It cost RM3
‘The Cendol is a complimentary from the Chicken chop set. The taste of it is not bad especially the brown sugar syrup but the sad thing is the ice blended out is so rough that the more you take, it might damage on your upper throat. If you were to order it cost RM5

Well, for lunch it was a bad experience for the whole food which compare to 4-5 years back they are much nicer. So will temporary BANNED this shop at the moment with its pricing I would rather go somewhere else to have a better and nicer food. The bills comes in total around RM57.

This is the place where a few of my friends been talking about when I am back, a must place to visit. I did not know since when Penang have such a nice place to chill or yum cha. It is called ‘Sunset Bistro’.

It gives you kinda the feeling when you are on your vacation in one of the nice island, and there are places like this for you to chit chat and drink beer. If you are too stress from your daily work, need a peaceful environment to calm your mind or need some good times with your friends or your gf/bf, I would strongly agree on this Bistro. If you are hungry they serve hawker to western food, beer, fruit juice, normal drinks but the kitchen close early at 1030-11.00 pm.

This is what I mean, a very relaxing place whereby they put music like, soft house, Jamaican, jazz, and some R n B towards middle of the night. You can just sit there close your eyes and listen to the music, enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the wave splashing on the sea side.
If you would like to take picture, be there by 6.30, watch the sunset. I was at 9pm and only realise that if I would to come early it would be nice. I will be there again on 6.30 the next round.

This is the food that I ordered ‘Char Koay Teow‘. The taste of it has a very nice strong taste of the wok yet alil bit of the left over burn koay teow a bit which he take in on the noodle also which he did not throw it off. This food is quite satisfying as I was drinking with Tiger beer.

It has been years since I last visited Steven’s corner. Let me count back. It was during my college times, so it will be around 5 years ago was one of our favourite hang out area for me and my housemates. Decided to go back here because totally miss the ‘Burung and Cheeze nan’ after so long long time whereby how we crave for it last time was when I sleep through the mid night then woke up in the middle of the night hungry, then wake up housemate up, told him ‘kia liau!!, we go eat at Steven’s Corner’ was so in form that drove from Subang to here, then eat eat eat then go all the way back.. lol…those were the days…
I totally forgot to take the picture of the ‘Fried Burung. Next round maybe.
By returning here for dinner and seeing alot of tables ordering western food which I never tried before and decided to give it a go. We ordered Chicken Chop it ended up coming Black Paper Chicken. Double confirm with that guy again, he said it is Chicken Chop..Then I am like harrr…..okay~ weird..
The ‘chicken chop a.k.a black paper chicken’ is highly recommended by me. It totally taste very nice, with quite strong taste of black paper, the chips is nicely fried whereby you dip it with the gravy and put it on the bread (Self recipe combo) goes along very well. The bread was toasted with butter and nice smell and crispy if you eat it fast.
This definately my favourite. Mozarella Cheeze’ Nan. It is just like eating pizza, when you pull it, you can see the strings of the cheezee pulling up like springs, just forgot to take the pic of it, just knowing eating it and enjoying it.

Nahh…there…youu see the cheezee…tempting and cheeze dripping.

This is what I decided to try out, Nasi Goreng Kambing’. Taste like normal fried rice and the Kambing meat is so hard. It is so hard to chew and swallow. Overcooked. Have eaten much nicer Nasi Goreng Kambing.

The ‘Satay’ seems like alot of people there are ordering it. So follow the crowd. To me personally I would not recommend it. Alot of fats on the chicken satay and the mutton satay is too hard. Overcooked again. The gravy is abit watery. Do not really taste nice. Overall for this satay, 5/10.
