I am a big fan of China food especially anything which is more towards Szechuan cooking style. Love their super spicy and oily base cooking. Yap, I might sound crazy as what my friend say but then I have dine one before which is really good in Melbourne, that continue my hunt for best Szechuan food in KL. Lucky Sichuan Restaurant is one of the nearest.

Lucky (1)

since its my friends birthday, then Sally highly recommended one of her regular spot which is Lucky Restaurant that sells szechuan food. Surely when Sze Chuan food is mention, I wont say no.

Lucky (2)

As for her booking and since she is a regular, we got a spot upstairs. I am amazed with the interior design that they are actually operating 2 levels of the shoplot and they have decorate the whole place with authentic Chinese ambiance. Wooden round door, with lantern lighting and bamboo painting on the wall.

Lucky (4)

Lucky (5)

In the menu, price are pretty much the same compare to the rest of the restaurant and everything looks good too.

Lucky (5.1)

Lucky (8)

For starter, we head for something really spicy, as the sea of red chili oil is only deceiving.

Lucky (9)

Not really spicy or maybe my spiciness level had increase. Great start and its pretty much a must order Item.

Lucky (10)

For someone who cant take spiciness, then Fried bittergourd is highly recommended! Fried to perfection that bitter gourd taste is not too bitter and its very aromatic with wok hei. Ended order another plate.

Lucky (11)

Sweet and Sour Pork intestine was gone in seconds. Chewy and light spicy end that makes it nice to go with rice.

Lucky (12)

Sour Spicy Soup turns out to be out of my expectation as I have expected too much in this dish when comes to this restaurant. This shop the soup have more sourish and a bit strong of vinegar taste.

Lucky (13)

this dish turns out to be good too, as the pork slices are soft, with sourish spicy gravy.

Lucky (14)

This is a must have, as fried chicken cubes are crispy and aromatic with their own seasoning of powder and fried along with lots of dry chilli. Not bad.

Lucky (15)

Pai Kuat did not really finish as its quite normal. .

Lucky (16)

This is one of my favourite dish when comes to Szechuan restaurant. Some of you might find it too oily or cook in a sea of hot pippin oil. For this restaurant, I don really like their fish slices and their soup base.

Lucky (17)

happy Birthday to our B’day Boi Marcus. . :d Another great cakes from Fatboybakes

Overall the food is good and I am keen to try their Malat Steamboat. .  smells good. For their fried dishes, I still prefer my favourite stall at Jalan Alor (click  here) currently they have fine tune to local taste, you have to mention authentic spiciness.

When comes to Penang hawker food, its pretty hard to resist it. I believe during this holiday season many of you are up in the north to hunt for all these street food. One of my favourite area is this little street that have some variety for you to choose from is this Chulia Street Hawker.

hawker (1)

A place that many food hunters spread that the Wan Tan Mee, Curry Mee and Stir fried (Char Hor Fun, Ee Foo Mee) to die for. Its been a long time since I last came here and decided to drop by again to do a blog post.

hawker (2)

I was so hungry that I order Koay Teow Th’ng and I finish it only remember I have to capture the picture. The soup base is sweet from hours of boiling with bones and the uncle use duck meat that comes to my liking with added little cubes of garlic and pork lard. Perfect.

hawker (3)

I walk further down abit at the little junction then saw this Char Kuih Kak.

hawker (4)

Love mine to add extra bean sprout and ‘Chai Poh’ (salted Turnip) to make it extra umph fried it itn small pieces upon request.

hawker (5)

This is the classic packaging of take away Kuih Kak.

hawker (6)

The smell and look of it wasnt impressive as its not fried dark enough with dark soy sauce, added dark egg suppose to be extra kick turns out to be mild. Not so good as I expected.

hawker (7)

This is good, the stir fried stall next to a fruit juice stall. Need to wait a while for it and its filled with wok hei. I only eat Ee Foo Mee in Penang as the noodle texture in KL are slightly different and the starchy base is also much better in Penang. Added an egg would have been perfect as its semi cook, that mine the uncle forgot to add in.

hawker (8)

Hearsay Curry Mee here are quite good, but I prefer mine that the soup base is slightly stronger and chili paste is in fiery red and much spicier. The taste of soup base here is slightly more mild but definitely have their own regular crowd. You have to wait at least 20 minutes for a bowl.

hawker (9)

Char Koey Teow here is not the best but would not recommend to order.

On that day, more famous Wan Tan Mee stall did not open so didnt try it out as there are 2 stalls here. The better ones are next to the Fruit Juice stall. Average waiting time for a plate is 30mins – 45 minutes. Do have patience when you dine around the area as its one of a famous hawker spot for local Penangnites.

Enjoy street food on next upcoming holiday season.

Food discovery on my some of my friends favourite place never fail to impress me. Of course I really need to know which friend that have similar taste bud like mine. :p It was a long weekend and decided to drop by Klang to meet my friend as I have not seen her since she move back to KL. As she know I love to eat then she decided to bring me to this Restaurant New Boston in Kopitiam version that is one of the most popolar restaurant in Klang for ‘tai chow’.

Restaurant New Boston is no stranger to local folks here as most of them arrive as early as 5.30pm to get a spot here including us,even right before the shop open whereby the worker is still arranging the table and chairs, heating up wok and steam machine. Indeed they are like the famous restaurant in Klang.

boston (1)

Everyone just bring their own tea and having a great conversation around the table sipping chinese tea while waiting for the store to start cooking. Every one just place their order first then look for a spot. According to my friend, here is one of a favourite restaurant to many of them including family dinner place.

boston (2)

Just the 2 of us, my friend order all her favourite dish that this Tai Luk Mee大碌面/Hokkien Mee福建面 is a must order. To me I am not a big fan of this noodle cuz in Klang valley its hard to find some where that can fried really nice plate out.

boston (3)

I must say I am impress, as the noodle is well fried with ‘wok hei’ that thick soy souce is thick enough to coat onto the noodle, fried along with pork lard and its big chunky one. Superb in taste and finally I have found one of the best that would made it top 3 best fried noodle on my list.

boston (4)

Steamed “Lala” 清蒸”啦啦” is another dish that you must not miss here if you do visit this outlet.

boston (5)

This steam lala is slightly different version compare to those that I have, sprikle with lots of fried onion, ginger and chili padi.

boston (6)

Soup base is absolutely amazing that is filled with spicy ginger taste along with hint of chili padi at the end that make it a perfect combination, chinese wine that they are using is sligtly mild yet soak onto lala very well. One sip of soup base, you will keep continue drinking it. Lala are very fresh and a perfect simple dish to go along. What I meant different version as, the lala taste serve here is mild in taste compare to others that I have tried before yet it stood up pretty well.

Usually my friend come with her family of 5 they would order this 2 big plate. My version is medium size.

boston (7)

‘Nestum Mantis Prawn‘ is another amazing dish from the restaurant. I have yet come accross to any restaurant that put is so generous with their ingredient. Its like a moutain high fried nestum along with mantis prawn and for 2 of us to eat 3 dish is just  too much. Mantis prawn would feed 3 person easily best of all if please order beer to eat along. Its a perfect companion.

Till date this dish taste still stuck in my mind as nestum fried to crips with egg and chili padi make the slight spicy taste in it and its just aromatic.

boston (8)

This is what happen if you come after 6pm, as the crowd just pour in like wild fire, as people already start queue to get a seat and as it head towards night time, this store would operate the whole street.

If you reach here and have not got a spot, forget about it first as you need to place your order first, as waiting time can easily takes up to 60-90 minutes on peak hour. So please do have patient if you come here peak hour.

Best time to come is to reach at 5.30pm or 11pm onwards.

No doubt that this is one of the best yet reasonable price on food that I have come across as those 3 dish cost me RM38. I am surely going to return for more with more people to try out more stuff. – Highly Recommended!

This place is totally new to me as Nicole told me she is gonna bring me to her favourite nasi lemak stall in Uptown I was like, “huh, there got famous Nasi Lemak one meh?” she said yes! just meet her there and I could not even remember there was one located along the stretch of HSBC. Have not met her in ages as she is busy travelling around and its a great to see her again. Village Park Nasi Lemak is one of a famous nasi lemak that gain huge popularity.

village park (1)

It is a place surely to  impress and I was here at lunch time. Its chaotic in Uptown as to find a parking spot at this time is your worst Nightmare!!! The only choices is to double park and being risk of either being kena Saman or Tow away. Be sure that you are there to monitor your car. I have seen a group of people came out from a restaurant and looking for their car as I saw their car got tow away.

village park (2)

Its amazing to see how this shop got huge coverage on media and not only that. As behind the payment counter you can see some celebrity and even our PM, ex PM Tun Dr Mahatir and many others came here to dine before.

village park (3)

Well, parking is not only the thing you have to be concern at as inside the shop is also chaotic, as the queue on this rice counter had build to outside and customers are pouring in.

village park (4)

Look at the Ayam goreng is just so tempting.

village park (5)

and my friend told me this is one of a must have!

village park (6)

Prices are slightly a bit more expensive for a plate of nasi lemak cuz you are dining in a restaurant.

village park (7)

This is how full house it would be and many other people behind me are waiting too.

village park (8)

This is a portion that according to my friend their signature ‘Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng’ @ RM 8. Something simple yet delightful, as rice is fragrant with light santan taste, fried chicken is nice and I would love to have mine with the extra crispy left over from the fried wok. Sambal is not bad as I prefer it to be more spicy and I was told that it used to be spicy and due to general taste bud, they have tone it down.

village park (9)

Kangkung Belacan order extra for side dish.

If you start comparing, I would compare it in this way, as Village Park Nasi Lemak they are cheaper than any malls restaurant that have to offer and taste much better or one of the best so far. If you compare with the makcik pakcik little stall on the road side, cant be comparable as those are street food category and of course their price is much cheaper and you can find a few stalls that taste better than them.

As this place is not that far from my place, I find that the price and quality is pretty decent. Been returning for couple of times already. 🙂

If you happen to drive by Raja Uda which is another part of Penang at Mainland that is famous for alot of hawker food too. . . One of the stalls that I often hear from my cousins or friends from around that area is a few restaurant and stalls that must not miss to eat. One stall in particularly that run by the whole family itself that enjoy brisk business for very long time. For last round I went back to Penang I particularly force my friends to go over to this area to dine with me .. ehehe

ham chee peng (1)

As I remember a stall that is famous for the Yew Char Kuih and Ham Chi Peng is nearby a mini food court only my friend told me that they have move to a new location which is bigger and brighter.

Hardly you will miss this stall as its usually flock with alot of people and nearby the famous temple along Jalan Raja Uda too or famous  Fish Head Steamboat next too it.

ham chee peng (2)

All their items are made fresh and serve pippin hot from the wok after being deep fried.

ham chee peng (3)

ham chee peng (4)

Many of the siblings are helping out from making process and some of them taking care of the deep fried process.

ham chee peng (5)

Price wise still did not change much starting from RM0.70 at the most of RM0.20 increase as compare to 2 – 3 years ago. .  I love their Horse Leg, Ham Chi Peng, Yew Char Kuih as I ate it this round and forgot to take pictures. Apologize!

If you happen to be in the area, this is one of the stall that you must not miss. Its a recommended stall by me .. 😀

If not mistaken In between Famous Raja Uda temple and Zi Wei Steamboat.

Over the weekend, my best friend Ian was quite free then gave me a call ‘Woi, want to go have lunch? Go Batu Caves there makan’? I was like harr.. serious? Batu Caves? then he was like very good eh, will never introduce you wrong food, then I call Ken along too. Driving from my side to another side to hunt for this restaurant. Pan Heong Restaurant is one of a well know restaurant that attracts many from near and far. He also mention that why I should come here to makan is that they use Charcoal to cook! anything cook with charcoal always create another flavor out of it.

Pan Heong (1)

Pan Heong Restaurant is very well known to many locals especially their neighborhood area. With the quality of food and of course their very reasonable price had attracted people from all over then. It was Sunday morning and I was blow away on the numbers of customers queueing up for a table.

Pan Heong (2)

My other group of friends came earlier, therefore we got a spot pretty fast.

Pan Heong (3)

As when I dine in a new place, I always love to observe other tables on what they are ordering or what are the usual repeat order that they(diners) eat.

Pan Heong (4)

As my friend told me, they started off in under a tree and their business had grew so fast then they move to shop lot themselves.

Pan Heong (5)

Started off with a simple Vegetable @ RM 11

Pan Heong (6)

We did not order white rice therefore we go for their Fried Rice as I see many people order. It is a very simple dish that they fried it till very aromatic and ‘wok hei’ as I always love my fried rice to have chinese sausage. @ RM 15

Pan Heong (7)

This is one of their signature HOr Fun and supposedly to order their ‘Sang Har Mee’ but as majority would prefer this for this round. @ RM 15. I love the gravy texture, smooth with egg add up onto while it is serving very hot to let it cook itself while its hot. Smooth gravy and pair very well with the koey teow.

Pan Heong (8)

Next one of my favourite is their Kao Yoke Mee Hoon @ RM 17. Mee hoon was not fried too dry, moist as it originally suppose to be and eat along with the soft fatty Kao Yuk is just perfect. – Recommended!

Pan Heong (9)

Nam Yu (fermented bean curd) Pork is one of the dish not many places can cook well. I must say this place have done it well, that I nearly whack the whole plate by myself instead of sharing it with another 7 more pax. It is well marinated and deep fried to the edge is crispy, and the taste of fermented bean curd is there that do not over power the taste or too strong. – REcommended! @ RM 18.50

Pan Heong (10)

One of the dish that many table order is their Porridge. Then we opt for Fish Porridge @ RM 18. Silky smooth texture of porridge just like the one I had it in Hong Kong, sign’s of being boil long enough to come into this texture. Notice that the fish meat cook instantly under the super boiling hot porridge. Its a bit mild in taste yet just taste good~ Heee,, for sick people, it would be a good meal for you guys.

Overall, the food is not bad and the portion charge with the prices I would say its on the cheaper side as total bill came to RM 105 and dine with total 8 pax.
