It had been quite a while since I last visited this shop that used to be one of my favourite shop to come for ‘Tong Sui’ and some kuih when I used to stay in Loke Yew. Kedai Makanan dan Minuman PMK still maintain one of my favourite place to come by as I usuall come here pretty late around 9’ish whereby most of the stuff sold out but still can get those what I want.

PMK (1)

Kedai Makanan dan Minuman PMK is located nearby Pudu Plaza where its not hard to find. A simple coffee shop that offer local delicacies that are pretty well known for their Chinese deserts and snacks that can satisfy my crave easily, would say one of the best stall in KL for tong sui.

PMK (2)

PMK (3)

Price in here are very decent . . .

PMK (4)

Its a simple kopitiam seating arrangement. . .

PMK (5)

Some of their signature kuih .. .

PMK (6)

My Ginger soup with Tong Yuen, is one of my favourite. I used to hate ginger soup as time pass by I learn to accept and start to like it. Ginger soup base here is slightly strong and spicy and those who do not prefer the strong taste would end up disliking it. Comes with sesame filling and pair perfectly with the soup base.

PMK (7)

Another one of my favourite is Herbal Egg Tea, that not many places can cook this tong sui very well. One which I often make a take away as its too good to be miss. Mild in taste yet light fragrant on herbal taste make it a good soup to turn down. Comes with an herbal egg too.

PMK (8)

As when I crave for dumplings, here would be an option that price is reasonable yet comes generous ingredient.

PMK (9)

If any of you do pass by here, here is definitely one of the place to drop by for visit especially on their ‘tong sui’. Well, another recommended place by me.

Heee, as some of you might have seen my previous post on Famous Yew Char Kuih & Ham Chi Peng that is located next to them, is actually related as I went on the same day. Lets head to next door which is the famous Zi Wei Yuen Steamboat Restaurant which is very famous in Raja Uda. One of the reason they are famous is because of the soup base, which is the only super important ingredient for steamboat.

zi wei (1)

I have been talking with my family and friends to come and dine at this restaurant for like bout 1 n half years already till date it was all wrong timing and since this round I am quite free and my friends love this restaurant, the agreed without any hesitation since its their favorite also.

zi wei (2)

To make an efford here, it is highly advise to reach here before 7pm or after 9pm as during peak dinner hours, you have to fight with  many families to get a spot in the area as its super pack.

zi wei (3)

This is what I mean as those who are standing are hunting for a table, so you better disperse your family members or friends to get a spot.

zi wei (4)

We lazy to order what is in the menu therefore we go for their set dinner, my friends opted for the most expensive set RM220 that consist of at least 10-14 items if I am not mistaken.

All the hungry people are ready in action . .

zi wei (10)

One of the thing that they are famous for is their special signature Fish Head Steamboat that available in two version, with fried fish head or the steam type. We choose the steam type then another attraction is that their soup base is milky version that you cant really find that in Penang and mostly I would say its the KL version.

Not only that, they use charcoal steamboat version to make it more nice. I only have charcoal steamboat when I went back to my grandmother’s village at some where deep in mainland only get to enjoy it.

zi wei (11)

This is what happen when the pour everything inside and waiting for it to boil as charcoal takes time to make it cook.

Find that the soup base is aromatic and sweet, as you can taste that they really take something to boil it long time to make it there and milky version of soup just make it look interesting. As you refill the soup many times then the soup gets more salty towards the end and the base.

zi wei (13)

Another thing that best pair with the steamboat is their own homemade chili sauce, that dip along with the ingredient is just perfect.

After a while after the dinner most of us gets very thirsty and I guess that they have added on alot of MSG to make us drink lots of water after that. No doubt that the soup base is good that we drank alot of the soup and just need to drink alot of water hours later. 😀

Its pretty good and worth to try. . .

One of the stalls that I often hear from my cousins or friends from around that area is a few restaurant and stalls that must not miss to eat. One stall in particularly that run by the whole family itself that enjoy brisk business for very long time. Last weekend, I had a very short trip back to Penang to help my friend photo shoot on his new range of food that going to promote for the next 6 months which I have previously blog about it (click here to view) and while I was there, I manage to think back to find a place that it had been long time have never dine there. Kedai Kopi Chip Heng

When I was a kid, my dad used to bring me here, that I used to bugged him on weekends, as it was quite a distance from Penang to mainland to hunt for this meal and at that time I was addicted to their soup taste, sour veggie.

Yam Rice

When I reach there, I remember one of the shop used to be my favourite but I could not remember which is the one as there are 2 shops side by side selling the same thing but different taste, as I lost my memory, I just chin chai entered one of the shop which turns to be Kedai Kopi Chip Heng.

Yam Rice (2)

What they sell is called, Yam Rice (one of their main selling item) to go along with soup that filled with mixture of pig’s spare part.

Yam Rice (4)

You can choose the parts that want to be added in into your bowl or mix everything ( I love it to be mix of everything) in the small bowl boil it for a while till its cook, then they will add the soup after that.

Yam Rice (3)

Yam Rice (5)

This is ‘Salted Vegetable Soup with Pork Innards’ with one of their special taste was the soup base, which is created much from salted veggie (Kiam Chai – in hokkien) and it had been quite some time since I last taste it and find it another feel like sour plum which happens to be quite strong which me and my friend find it quite weird but as I remember the when I was a kid it doesn’t taste like that (more on sour veggie).

Yam Rice (6)

Then the auntie introduce us their ‘Tau Yew Bak’ that had been stew for quite some time till the pork intestine its very soft and a bit chewy and if the meat would have been softer a bit it would have been perfect. I just love the taste of the Tau Yew as it similar to my grandma’s cooking that I had long missed. We just finish this bowl within seconds.

Yam Rice (7)

If you are in this coffee shop and ordered white rice it would be just very weird (would be more like ordering Wan Tan Mee without Wantan) as they are famous for their ‘Yam Rice’.

Love the Yam Rice that have diced yam cubes are deep – fried to a crisp, add in sauteed dried shrimps to cook with the rice till its not too dry is just delicious to go along with the soup.

Yam Rice (8)

The best part is all the pig spare part must dip with their special ‘In house Chili’ to add in the kick of it.

After finishing the meal, I am still not satisfied that it doesn’t give me the umph of it then went to the next stall to tap au back their taste and while I was at home after reheat it again, I just found out that that’s the shop I wanted to go with its strong taste of sour veggie. Both shop also had their own customer with different taste wise, hence for me, I love the one next to this shop and as I remember, my cousin loves this shop compare to the one I like. (depends on your taste bud)

Total damage for 2 pax is RM15 including drinks which we find it very cheap.

During my trip to Taiwan, I met a lovely pair of couple, Nono and Jennifer that I find out they loves food too which is good, then only towards end of the trip realize that his mom actually sell Curry Fish Head nearby my house at Penang, happens to be I was at Penang for a day and drop by at the coffee shop Restaurant Satu Dua Lapan Lapan which is situated at Paya Terubong nearby Permata Sports Complex. Besides the Curry Fish head, there are many other food which is available at the coffeeshop that worth to try and do not put high expecation.

nono (2)

nono

nono (6)

By the name of the stall itself ‘Curry Fish Head’ is a must order which is their signature. According to Nono, the fish were bought daily and choose by his mom to bring back therefore, freshness is ensure.

When the curry fish head is served, I just cant wait to taste it, with the look itself already temp most of us, flaming red color curry, fresh big fish head cook along with it. I love the curry taste, a bit spicy, sour at the end of the tongue and a bit thick in curry with the fish head steam perfectly and cook along, just as I prefer it to be. Definitely this is recommended!

Besides the main dish, his mom is equip with some excellent Nyonya cooking skills too, that cook some side dishes for the day differently to go along with the curry fish head, what we have today, you might not get it the same menu tomorrow, might be repeating the following week or other combination as that is not her main focus.

nono (3)

A simple ‘Fried Vegetable’ that been cook to aromatic and preserving freshness of the vegetable. I finish half of the plate.

nono (4)

‘Fried Chicken’ fried to crisps on the edge and soft on the inside. Dip it with chili sauce is good.

nono (5)

‘Tau Yew Bak (hokkien)- Braised Pork in Soy Sauce’ consider one of the best dish you would not want to miss if you find the right stall. Pork leg and meat had been steam quite some time and I just prefer it to be longer a bit so the skin and meat is softer, after all, curry mix with tau yew, and taste good!

nono (7)

If you have strong taste bud, then you would not want to miss this, ‘Asam Prawn’ fried in a hot wok, with a few asam cook along that makes it very a bit strong in taste but after you peel off the skin of it and eat along with rice, its flavorful~ Recommended

With a stall like that, to cook a nice food is something that I look forward and it was a great dinner organize by Nono and with total damage of RM47 for 4 pax, its definitely a great value. Definitely I will be going back for more especially the curry fish head and only at that time I realize that KL have not much nice Curry fish head compare to Penang.
