Penang is indeed a food heaven. Not only being listed as one of the top places to visit in the world as the food is also highly notable with many foodie around the world. In this post, I am going to share, what are my 22 street food must eat in Penang 2018 along with another top extinct street food that you should try as I personally felt that is going to extinction.
In Penang we call this Hokkien Mee or KL folks known this as Har Mee.

Penang Curry me is different from many other states where it is serve with pig blood, cockles, taufupok, cuttlefish with fragrant broth with mild coconut milk. Every stall have their special ingredient for their chili paste which is also one of an important element to enhance the soup base.

In Penang, we have a few version of Koey Teow Soup and there are 2 which is very common. Instant Koey Teow noodle that cook on the spot bowl by bown and second version is Duck Meat Koey Teow Soup which is prepare by adding ingredient on the top then added soup on it.

Wan tan Mee in Penang is also different from other states in terms of, taste, noodle texture and also ingredient. Classic Penang Wan Tan Mee is with red char siew, mix of boil and fried wan tan, pork lard, sesame oil and 2 types of thick soy sauce. Every stall have their own special recipe.

I personally think that these street food in Penang that are not so well known which I quite like or felt that going to extinct soon :

one of a classic food that losing its art, cuz of the prep and cutting of raddish. Not many stalls left in Penang that frie awesome Char Koey Kak.

Char Hor fun in Penang is quite different whereby the noodle texture along with the hor fun is very different. Also both the noodle will be pre fried and store it aside. Whenver there is any order coming in, then the gravy will be prepare next and just shower ontop of the noodle and we have red char siew on top.
Most of my favourite place already close down cuz no successor and also lesser demand.

Gravy is similiar to Char hor Fun as the only different is the noodle texture. Slightly fatty and fried with wok hei and a bit burnt end to be perfect. Mix with its thick gravy is just prefect. Best to top an raw egg.

One of the most classic food that i miss is this and now left only handful of stalls that is operating and most of them are by old folks. I guess if they retire, this dish will retire too. the unique about this is coloured pink egg, top with some pork slices, shrimp and each stall of their own special soup broth. Another secret ingredient is their home made sambal to add onto the noodle. Either you eat it as it is then only mix with sambal after that to see on your liking.

Why is this part of the list because the famous ones are only left handful and most of them retired. One of the main reason also Penang version serve the dough warm compare to KL left it on the place and eat it cold as it is. Peanut base powder is slightly more rough and more fragrant.
