Bukit Bintang – It’s the heart of Kuala Lumpur

For most people, the young especially, Bukit Bintang is a place that is no stranger to them. This town where sleep does not exist is best known as the fashion and entertainment center of Kuala Lumpur, and if you are familiar to Changkat, you would surely know how lively Bukit Bintang can be. But what do you do when you are tired of all the loud EDM’s, Techno Music and shopping till you literally drop? Here are 4 different things you can do here in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

  1. Jalan Alor

If you are on a hunt for the best gastronomic delights, Jalan Alor is where you should totally be. It is not called the cultural heart of the city’s local cuisine for no apparent reason, as you would surely start salivating as soon as you approach this road due to its most captivating smell and the most interesting ambience. Jalan Alor is a strip of atmospheric air-conditioned Chinese seafood restaurants with row of hawker stalls with a variety of food that would surely keep you coming back. Here are my top 7 pick for this street.

2. Starhill Culinary Studio

As most of you might know (or might not), Malaysia is indeed known for its culinary heritage that leaves you wanting more and this is exactly the time when you wish you could recreate this at home. Fret not because Starhill Culinary allows you to participate in classes headed by Chef Wai, YTL’s Corporate Executive Chef. You will not only teach you the food preparation part but also on how to properly handle kitchen utensils and using the different type of local herbs, ensuring you will not only learn how to cook but to do so like a pro.

3. Sri Mahamariamman Temple

As the oldest and apparently the richest temple, Sri Mahamariamman Temple is Kuala Lumpur’s main Hindu temple. It is an incongruous sight between two Buddhist temples at the edge of Chinatown with large structures that incorporates Spanish and Italian tiles, precious stones and gold. With over 200 Hindu idols adorning the five tiers of the entry gate, this temple is the prominent feature during the annual Thaipusam festival.

4. Malaysia Heritage Walk

The Malaysia Heritage Walk, called Kasturi Walk by locals, is a covered, open-air flea market along Jalan Kasturi, a lane running alongside Central Market. Established in early 2011, in similar vein to Petaling Street, you can find vendors selling local snacks, fruits and fake label goods (think, T-shirts, flip flops, watches) set up side-by-side. Additionally, the goods are reasonably priced plus its convenient location makes a trip here worthwhile. Food stalls sell everything from Malay kuih and Chinese dim sum to Indian rojak and other local snacks.

The best thing about these places are the strategic location it is in. Set in KL’s Golden Triangle, everything is practically 10 steps away. Added to that, getting a hotel is will never be a problem at all when you are done exploring Bukit Bintang. No matter if you are booking the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur or just checking out the reviews for Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, get all your travel booking done through Traveloka Malaysia, my favourite website with more than 70,000 hotels and flights from all over the world.
