Charcoal Claypot Chicken Rice @ Jalan Ipoh

Since I have move job to a new office that is base around Jalan Ipoh, I am now starting to explore what is good around this area. Exploring food in Jalan Ipoh that leads to my first discovery. This is one of the best claypot chicken rice in Jalan Ipoh.  This Charcoal Claypot Chicken Rice has no name on it as I read from vkeong blog that its worth to give it a try.

This uncle had been operating and cooking in this same place for about 30 years and it is a family business that runs by both husband and wife. Was told by the uncle, he specially curated a few things t make it quite unique as he only use charcoal all the way from Taiping, as the flame is much more control or concentrated and special dark soy sauce from this particular supplier.

during lunch time, it is quite pack and you can see this whole strech is pack with petrons that only come here for his Charcoal Claypot Chicken Rice only. Most of them here are his regular that eaten since from young till to adult.

claypot chicken rice 1 pax @ RM 8 (if I remember correctly) is filled with fresh chicken that is well marinated and Chinese sausage.. Soft and juicy that cook to perfection. Best of all, it comes with a slab of salty fish. (you have an option not to have it). But it is a must have ingredient for me in my claypot chicken rice.

I have also forgot to ask them add egg for me. That would have make it even better.

Front is for 1 pax and behind is for 2 pax.

This claypot chicken rice is slightly different in cooking method compare to what I have had previously. Rice in claypot base is not really burnt at the bottom as to some of us might like it. This had cook to just nice where you can scrap all the rice up without burnt edges. Dark soy sauce gives it a lift of flavour but to me still sllight lacking of flavour that I like which is missing out Chinese wine in it. (only my preference)

Uncle told me that this is the special dark soy sauce that he is using. To some of you operating fnb might want to consider this too.

just that I prefer my claypot chicken rice with some edges burnt on the rice to make it more aromatic. Love to have chinese wine in it too.  Just that every one have their own recipe. This is not too bad though.

  • Of course Kiam Hu is a must... lol! Talking about Jalan Ipoh, you should check out this hidden place: Fish Head Noodle at Kuan Tee Temple (turn in at HSBC) and try also their dry noodles and fish cakes.
