Glenmorangie Tasting with Dr Bill Lumsden @ CHAZE At Marquee

Renowned as a pioneer in its field of uniting tradition with innovation in creating the world’s finest and multiple award-winning single malt whiskies, Glenmorangie recently hosted a special whisky tasting of its Glenmorangie Original, Glenmorangie Lasanta, and Glenmorangie Signet for members of the media and a select group of Malaysian whisky lovers took place at CHAZE At Marquee.

At the event, guests were greeted by a pair of giraffes made to resemble the stills found at the Glenmorangie distillery. Widely known for having the tallest stills in Scotland, they measure 8 metres high (26ft 1/4 inches) with their long copper necks standing at 5.14 metres (16ft 10 1/4 inches) – the same height as a fully grown adult giraffe. With only the lightest and purest of vapours making its way to the top, the product is smoother, more elegant whisky.

Glenmorangie Original – lightly chill-filtered and bottled at 40% ABV.

Glenmorangie Original is the original expression of the Distillery’s elegant, floral spirit. This ten-year old single malt is the backbone of Glenmorangie’s range, with an unmistakable scent of citrus and ripening peaches, softened by the aroma of vanilla. Its taste is of vanilla, with a burst of flowery fruitiness, followed by a clean aftertaste with hints of orange and peach.

Dr Bill who was also named Master Distiller/Master Blender of the Year at Whisky Magazine’s ‘Icon’s of Whisky 2016’ awards said that “As a kaleidoscope for the senses, Glenmorangie is focussed on the quality of the spirit, the enticing sensory journey it beckons, and the illuminating quality and refinement of its complex character.”

Glenmorangie Lasanta – lightly chill-filtered and bottled at 43% ABV.

This light russet-coloured single malt is extra-matured in Oloroso sherry casks to give a richer and rounder finish, with additional finishing in casks which contained Pedro Ximenez – the ‘King of sherries.’ The whisky’s Spanish characteristics are relected in its soft texture and deep, sweet aroma of warm spices, chocolate-covered raisins, honeycomb and caramel toffee.

Glenmorangie Signet – without chill-filtering and bottled at 46% ABV.

If you are in slightly cold room, do hold it around your palm to keep the whisky slightly warm up. To open up the flavours and aroma when you smell and taste it. This dark russet-coloured single malt is a blend of the brand’s oldest whisky, matured in a selection of the world’s finest casks – made bespoke for Glenmorangie from American white oak. Undoubtedly the richest whisky in the Glenmorangie range, Signet retains a strong Aruba espresso aroma fused with sherry and candied orange peel. Its taste is a contrast of rich sweetness with an explosive crackle of sizzling spices and bitter mocha, finishing with fresh hints of mint and bright citrus.

My all time favourite is still Asta, and the new flavour Signet is my personal favourite. Love the robust flavour and smoothness of it.
