Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Wine Pairing @ E.G.G – The Pinnacle Sunway

It was a great evening by enjoying another great wine. Wine drinker will certainly familiar this renowned Australian brand, Jacob’s Creek. To add that more interesting, they have recently launched its most recent blend of red wine- the Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel for both the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon that finished in aged whiskey barrels which is to add another layer of complexity and texture to traditionally barreled beverages.

As guess arrived, we were all treated with the fresh, vibrant sparkling wine the Chardonnay Pinot Noir. Little did I know that they do have champagne range. This bottle certainly a great starter where it is so easy to drink, bubbly that gives you the fresness and crips of taste yet texture is nice. Gives you a little sourish lemon taste. A recommended bottle though for easy casual drinking.

All of us are also very curious on what does Double Barrel mean?

To make their blend different, Jacob’s Creek came up with the idea of the unique double barreling process, whereby their premium red wine, the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon reds will age through their usual process for 12-18 months in wine barrels, then subsequently aged in used Scotch or Irish Whisky oak barrels for another 3-months before bottling.  This process enhance the taste to intense and full body.

For the night, we kick start with Pan-seared French Foie Gras paired with Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir.

As for this, the tasting notes for Double Barrel Shirazit has full body and a generous palate which integrates a mix of sweet red fruits and dark chocolate. While subtle toasty vanilla flavours are derived from the aging process in traditional French and American oak wine barrels. Finally, the careful use of aged Scotch whisky barrels for finishing has added complex nuances of almond-husks and also softened the dense tannins to yield an incredible smoothness.

White Truffle Pumpkin Potage

This soup is smooth and creamy, with a light finihshing truffle after-taste of truffle. Paired with  Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir.

These are the sample woods that was part of the double barrel aging process.

Smoked Turkey Drumstick is to be paired with Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Shiraz and Jacob’s Creek Reserve Shiraz. Normally I am not a shiraz drinker, however with this double barrel it is certaily deifferent.

Moving to second row – we are served with Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon the tasting notes for it is offers a complex palate yet reveals itself with style. Traditionally assertive tannins are evident at first, before giving way to a mid palate filled with ripe cassis, olive tapenade and complex briary hints. Fine, dusty tannins give excellent line and length to the beverage, and are layered with sweet and toasty characters reminiscent of crýme brýlýe. The unique Double Barrel technique of finishing in aged Irish whiskey barrels has integrated the myriad of flavours and brought extra richness to the palate.

For the mains, we get to choose Pan-seared Wagyu – Marbling Grade 9 or the seafood. Paired with Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon and Jacob’s Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
The waygu was cook to perfection and it was a clear winner among the rest. Soft tender, juicy yet to me it pairs very well with the Double barrel as the strong smooth taste do enhance the taste of the meat. If to compare with Reserve, the taste is slightly lighter.

Poached Lobster with Truffle Garlic Oil pairing with Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon and Jacob’s Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
For this pairing, I think there are hit and misses as the wagyu had enhance on my taste bud.

Premium Chocolate and French Macaron paired with Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel
Lastly, the chocoate pairing is what we need. Something nice that pairs well with the Double barrel to as a finishing.
My personal preference and a recommended bottle to buy (if you have strong palate) is the Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon. Love the complexity, extra rich, that gives you a smooth dry finish. Interesting aftertaste too.
