Sichuan Cuisine @ Kuchai Lama

I am a big fan of China cuisine and it is kinda hard to find decent one in KL as we constantly end up in Restaurant TKS, Jalan Alor. Sichuan Cuisine at Kuchai Lama  is a new hidden discovery by us and it’s Chuan Xiang Ge (川香阁 ). As we found out, the food is authentic Sichuan Cuisine.

If you drive pass by, it do capture your attention as you look into the shop, it is filled with classic China interior.

There are a few items that we will not miss to order is 1. The hot and sour potato (醋溜土豆絲). The potatoes are finely slices where till the texture taste like cabbage. Slightly crunchy and dash of vinegar, dry chili and peppercorn is indeed perfect. .

Classic, Simple and hit the notes is Boiled dumplings or Pan Fried dumplings are a must when I eat Sichuan food; Just dip it with chilli oil to get the taste up. Skin here is slightly ticker than the usual and filling is a bit small.

Sichuan Duck Soup is good. Where the soup is filledwith salted veggie, raddish and filled with generous ingredients, salty to my liking and pack with flavour.

Classic dish of sichuan is Sliced Beef Tripe in Chili Oil with Peanuts. Simple, not too spicy, yet every single bite gives you the right amount of spicy that is needed.

Another dish that is a must order for us is Chongqing-style Dry-fried Chicken with Dried Chillies and Peppercorn. We just love to dig through this moutain sea of dry chilli. A treasure hunting dish as if you accidentally bite on the peppercorn, all I can say is good luck.

Another must have Sichuan Specialty for us is Shui Zhu Yu. Love the thickness of gravy and the density of pepercon in this bowl will just make you crazy to swipe it aside. Fish is always the prefered choice, however there are certain shop is good in pork.

With all the dishes, they serve inhouse special fragrant rice.

Chinese Mapo taufu is quite classic, however mapo tofu is a dish that we will rarely order, however after looking at the dish next table, we decided to add on order. Taste profile is indeed quite interesting. Spicy peppercorn, black bean, mild sweet, sour and spicy. Well balance of taste and just add rice in it, is perfect.

As the lady owner told us that Chongqing roast fish (kao yu) is well known in China and is also the shop signature. We also place an order along and truely enough, it is a good dish. bake and charcoal grilled. Taste is only mild spicy and do not let the chilli deceive you.

Will certainly come back here again as the dishes are good and price is pretty reasonable.
