黑鲸 The Black Whale is actually one of my favourite bubble milk tea in KL. Could they be one of the best boba milk tea in KL? They are definitely in my top 3. However is the trend still going strong? I only felt that these of my top 4 brands that I like still standing strong!

The sequence goes like this:

  1. the Black Whale
  2. Koi
  3. The Alley
  4. Tealive

The Black whale (2)

I have tried a few of their outlets and consistancy is the hardest in F&B. Only 2 outlet which I constantly visit and their consistancy is there which are:

  1. The Black Whale Kepong
  2. The Black Whale Sunway Pyramid

The rest of the outlets are down the drain. Either too sweet or too bland.

their Signature is indeed da bomb! Toped with creme brulee. Fiery Brown Sugar Black Whale Milk @ RM

The Black whale (6)

I quite like their normal bubble milk tea series which is Royal Whale Milk Tea @ RM 8.90 (L) One of my top fav is their Brown Sugar Avocado Milk @ RM 18.90. The most expensive among all. However I do aim at Shopee or Lazada for discount voucher to purchase.

Black Crystal Milk Tea @ RM 6.90 (L) and their fruit series Passion Dragronfruit Whalcano @ RM 13.90

Quite like their drink in a way as they have variety of drinks available and on and off can substitute with other flavors.

Street food! Who is in for comfort street food. A simple reason, this place that just operate JUST 6 months is making a huge waves of virality over social media. This makes them the Famous Mama Mee 夜宵食堂 @ Kepong Baru, KL is one of the stall to hunt for in the area. Making bee line right before it opens is already worrying, not to mention if you reach dinner time and do prepare to wait for about 30-6o minutes for a table.

One of a famous food in Thailand or making it a must have Thai Street food food whenever visiting that country. With a clever mimic from Thailand, this had made them one of a  famous tomyum noodle in KL.

Mama Mee Kepong (1)

I was told by my colleague to visit here early and I am in kiasu mood today. I reach at 6.20 pm as the store operates sharp at 6.30pm. Moments into 6.35pm, BOOM! the shop is full and when the clock hits 7pm, the queue is forming up.

Mama Mee Kepong (2)

Mama Mee Kepong (15)

Menu is pretty direct as there are a mix of street Italian and Thai and the price is indeed very reasonable.

Mama Mee Kepong (14)

Mama Mee Kepong (3)

For a classic Thai mama noodle, it must topped with an egg yolk, mine got 2 because I ordered 2 pax portion. Which turns out to be quite big portion. This is not your usual single pack of mee mama but it is the big pack of Mama noodle. 2 pax means 2 packet at one serving.

Mama Mee Kepong (4)

Mama Mee Kepong (5)

Mama Mee Kepong (6)

Because I had a few meals today and only decided to order MAMA Noodle with Meatballs @ RM 12.80 (for 2 pax) – single pax is RM 7.80.

Mama Mee Kepong (8)

This is pretty obvious that the soup is cook by themselves as at home we could not cook such a big batch. Soup is pretty good, where resembles the powder of mama noodle, and the soup do taste a little sweet, sourish as it needs and not too spicy, which I felt it is just right that many of non spicy eater can accept too. A pretty generic bowl of noodle soup.

Mama Mee Kepong (9)

I failed at cooking this noodle at home and with their huge fire, they cooked about 45-1min before taking it out. Making the noodle very springy and just perfect!

Mama Mee Kepong (12)

Meatball is done to perfection. I felt that it is homemade, as the meatball did not roll up too dense, yet a bit airy in between and cook to just right. Not too hard yet soft and juicy. A hint of strong white pepper taste is prominent even the taste of tom-yum is pretty solid already.

Mama Mee Kepong (13)

Topping egg yolk into it is to make it more creamy and after mixing the whole bowl, it will tone down the spiciness and the soup turns slightly creamy.

Mama Mee Kepong (16)

A simple meal that will knock you off. A flavour that will makes you satisfy. I am good with this. A famous street food in Kepong.

Just saw I have some pictures over this and I tried Xing Fu Tang for the first time when they open their outlet in Kepong. One of the reason did not hit to SS15 is because of the crazy queue. Xing Fu Tang finally in Malaysia had make its famous mark of boba milk tea in overseas.

Xing Fu Tang (1)

Xing Fu Tang in Kepong was one of the first few outlets expansion in Klang Valley. Queue every where was crazy and their menu is very simple. Just a few SKU and with their signature as below.

Xing Fu Tang (2)

Brown Sugar boba is cooked fresh and stir right infront of you. A lot of friends told me that it us so unhealthy when they put the hot brown sugar n boba into the cup. It to me a while to come into realization that izint what we have our take away food in “bungkus version” and noodles are hot?

Xing Fu Tang (3)

Xing Fu Tang (4)

Their signature drink is rather simple. A coated brown sugar around the cup, filled with milk, top with another layer of sugar then burnt it to melt to create a crips layer for you.

Xing Fu Tang (5)

Xing Fu Tang (6)

While waiting for your drink, try your wish luck from this massive stick. See which of the stick stick out compare to the rest, take the stick out and see what is the number then match back on the little pockets on the wall. that will be the luck of what you wish for.

Xing Fu Tang (7)

Xing Fu Tang (10)

Brown Sugar Boba Milk  @ RM 12.50

Xing Fu Tang (11)

Well, I have tried a few outlet of Xing Fu Tang even all the way for Xing Fu Tang in Penang. Conclusion is different outlet different taste but this branch in Kepong is pretty good.

Love the brown sugar taste which is slightly quite strong, the little biting crips from the burnt sugar and fresh milk is prominent. the flavors blend well.

Xing Fu Tang (12)

If you ask me what is my fav brand right now, I would say The Black Whale (a local brand- that I have yet blog). Xing Fu Tang remains top 3 in my list for their signature series.

After bring my niece to Desa Park City and was heading to Kepong to tapau for my favorite coffee, my bro suddenly requested to have Italian Lunch with spaghetti for my niece. Googling around and found this place, Me Famiglia Italian Restaurant at Kepong.

La Famiglia (1)

Hidden right behind Aeon Big Kepong, under an Apartment sits this little restaurant which is like family run place. A bit rustic and nostalgia with the smell of furniture and classic table settings.

La Famiglia (2)

Find that their pricing of Lunch and Dinner set is pretty cheap.

La Famiglia (7)

Trying out Garlic Toast topped with homemade garlic butter are the classic ones. A simple starter. @ RM 4

La Famiglia (9)

Soup of the day was Mushroom Soup @ RM 5.50. For the price in this place, I find the portion is decent.

La Famiglia (8)

Linguine D’Mare @ RM 26.90 – cooked with mixed seafood and special garlic sauce.

La Famiglia (14)

Bolognese Di Manzo @ RM 12.50. Cooked with Chef special sauce.

La Famiglia (10)

For my parents, I order Grilled Lamb Shank @ RM 39.50 for them to share. Love the creamy sauce, and a little salty at the end to my liking but the meat is pretty spot on. Soft and juicy that just comes off from the bone easily.

La Famiglia (11)

Their pizza comes out to be pretty good. Hawaiian Pizza at RM 17.90 is indeed a good bargain. With homemade dough and made fresh, this is recommended!

La Famiglia (12)

La Famiglia (13)

You must end with their Classic Tiramisu @ RM 9.90. You can taste the fresh espresso at the base, creamy mascarpone in the middle and the texture is just nice. For this price I could not complain much. I think this is one of the cheapest I come across.

La Famiglia (15)

For this Italian food in Kepong, I certainly cant say much about them as in price point and portion they are very decently price. I would certainly recommend their Pizza and Tiramisu not to be miss in your orders.

New generation of bubble tea had hit the Malaysian shores and have skyrocket the interest of all our bubble tea drinkers. The Alley is indeed one of a early starter to kick start this waves with their SS15 as one of their first outlet then spreading through their wings exponentially over a year. Had my first new wave bubble milk tea at The Alley Kepong, as the rest of the outlets were just too crazy.

The Alley (4)

The Alley (1)

The Alley (2)

The Alley (3)

The Alley (5)

How to drink your tea? There is a trick to it.

The Alley (7)

Kepong outlet queue is not that crazy as I mostly go during lunch time. With their signature drink is a must try for first timer – Brown Sugar Deerioca Milk @ RM 12.90. Love the balance of the sugar and milk and do note that there will no adjustment to be made from our usual order. Even though this drink is pretty good, but I find it quite pricey.

The Alley (8)

Others that I tried will be like their normal Royal.9 Milk Tea @ RM 7.90 (which is still my favourite) fragrant of tea and boba is just perfect.

The Alley (6)

The Alley (9)

Actually Brown Sugar Deerioca Chocolate @ RM 12.90 is pretty good. Cocoa powder and taste is pretty strong yet the brown sugar just enhance the sweetness of it.

The Alley (10)

Do note that different outlet might have different taste as there is no consistency of SOP of it. I have tried Kepong, SS15 and SS2. By far SS2 is the worst. Kepong and SS15 still pretty similiar.

Overall, I still like the classic. Not the one with milk and black sugar as I felt kinda ripoff and still The Alley top in my list at the moment for their classic milk tea series.

After saw Joshua posted this bowl of noodle in Facebook, quickly screen shot it then went to hunt over the weekend. Lee Fong Yuen 李芳园, is indeed a hidden gem tucked away in Taman Ehsan, Kepong which had been operating in this area for more than 30 years.

Lee Fong Yuen (2)

currently is helm by 2nd generation as the uncle in the picture is the founder manning the store and daughter is manning the coffee side. Most of the diners here are in for their signature Wan Tan Mee, but I am here for something else.

Lee Fong Yuen (3)

Their signature Teh Peng @ RM 2.50 is a must have. quite similiar to those good Hong Kong milk tea. Smooth yet not too sweet. Their Kopipeng is alright.

Lee Fong Yuen (4)

Their homemade chili paste is quite interesting. With hint of saltiness and mild spiciness with nice herb after taste (i could be wrong)

Lee Fong Yuen (5)

This is what i am here for. A classic Beef noodle @ RM 9. What attracted me to come all the way here is the colour of the soup.

Lee Fong Yuen (6)

Indeed a very unique bowl of Beef Noodle Soup. Thick and punch with flavour. It is just indeed very UMAMI! The meat soak well the flavour of the soup yet every bite is just satisfying. Beef meat is soft yet juicy and tendon is cook to perfection. Soft enough to give you a light chewy texture. White radish in it is heaven. Soak all the taste from the soup.

Lee Fong Yuen (7)

Lee Fong Yuen (8)

A good bowl of beef noodle should not miss out a bowl of beef balls. Chewy and bouncy. Love it. Those of you who love strong flavour profile, this is indeed a place that you should not miss. Strong in herb taste too.

Lee Fong Yuen (9)

Lee Fong Yuen (11)

Order both dry @ RM 8 and soup noodle. Soup noodle turns out to be better as dry noodle the cooking of the noodle is a bit miss. Quite over cook.

Lee Fong Yuen (12)

Lee Fong Yuen (13)

Lee Fong Yuen (14)

Enjoying every bit of it.

Lee Fong Yuen (15)

Lee Fong Yuen (16)

Will I be back? Definitely will be back. Will be in my recommended list too. Since the taste is quite different, that is not your usual beef noodle that you can find.

Price mention above are my estimation if I remember correctly. Cuz the price is quite reasonable.

Other beef noodle soup you can check out here:

  1. Soong Kee Beef Noodle at Pudu
  2. Shin Kee Beef Noodle at Pudu
  3. Beef noodle in Lai Foong Kopitiam
  4. Ngau Kee beef Noodle at Tengkat Tong Shin
