I was told that this place sells legendary Roti Bak Kwa. Of course Roti Bak Kwa in Penang and KL is totally different version. Since I am craving for one, decided to pay a visit to Uncle 6 Toast Bar In Pudu, that just operated not long. In the area, Uncle Chai is known as the motocycle Bak Kwa Man. He had been riding the same kapchai for 40 years moving around to sell his legendary charcoal roti Bak Kwa.

I think this is more like Uncle Chai Retirement shop with some relatives or cousins helping to run the shop and continue his legacy. Uncle Chai is also already 80 years old. standing strong and steady.

Uncle chai kapchai

of course Roti Bak Kwa can be consider as one of a street food. Alright, the diff between Penang and KL as I think this is the first time I eat Roti Bak Kwa in KL and this is the first one.

the difference is that Penang comes with steam bun and own special sauce bath onto the center bed of bread then add in with just charcoal bbq onto it.

KL is what yo usee below. Roti toast and with chili sauce. Ill show you guys Penang version when I go back Penang end of the month.

roti bak kwa in kl

Never the less, the uncle gives generous pork floos and bak kwa 2 pcs and I enjoy every mouth bite of it. Is it super good, I think it is decent enough to fix my cravings. I just enjoy the classic without egg.

In Pudu, there is this famous Hainanese Kopitiam that used to operate inside the Pudu Pasar which is Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea 阿榮哥海南茶. Since there was a new Pudu wet market that being build to replace the old one, most of all the classic famous market street food had move into this ICC Pudu building.  . [I still like the old classic pasar feel(click here)]. Of course in here is cleaner and cooler.

Currently it is helm by second generation if I am not mistaken, that is a shop that had been operating more than 40 years.

Some people say its so so and some say its very good. Again depends on your taste bud. My foriegn friends prefer Ho Kaw which is at China Town, Petaling Street.

Restoran Ruby 祖传芝麻糊大王 or to be known as King of Chi Ma Wu at Pudu is one of a Chinese dessert or Chinese Tong Sui in KL to be. Waves of high praise for them upon their Sesame dessert.

King of Chi ma Wu (1)

We walk over from our pre-CNY dinner place at Restaurant Sek Yuen to here as just a stone throw away. Was told by my colleague that they are famous for a few dessert and try it out lo.

The stall looks more like herbal drink stall rather than a dessert stall.

Price is slightly on the high side.

King of Chi ma Wu (9)

Have you ever  seen a nice dessert art on your tong sui instead of those nice latte art. This is the first. A lot of heart and creativity in this.

The only thing stand out is Black Sesame which suits on the sign board. RM 3.50

King of Chi ma Wu (12)

I have high hopes on this Steamed Egg Custard @ RM 3.50.. However it was quite a let down in both taste and texture.

Well a dessert place that I wont return but again really depends on your taste bud. I do see alot people making take away like at least 3-10 per bag. Also again, the build up hype and comments for many people give me this set of expectation.

Looking for a good classic Chinese restaurant in KL? Look no further for this legendary Sek Yuen Restaurant that had been operating in Jalan Pudu for decades. Residing in this old classic stand alone shoplot that is brightly lit with 70’s neon like as the building outline is making a huge bee line during Chinese New Year.

They are also well known for their dai chow with old classic taste that is mostly run by old folks of family members.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (2)

there is no bookings allowed as they only encourage walk in. I was there last year for the first time to enjoy lou sang. I was told that the history of Lou Sang, they were the first to create this trend out, or they are the founder of Lou Sang Tradition.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (3)

Ingredients of lou sang in here are all made from scracth and fresh. Therefore during CNY and if you are here, it is a must order dish.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (4)

A perfect place for gathering that is transporting you back to the 80’s, with all the wooden frame windows and classic pictures of the restaurant.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (6)

they do not really use salmon as they use other types of fishes, marinate with ginger and their own special oil.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (10)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (11)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (5)

this is their signature lou sang.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (13)

Love the texture of lou sang, as it taste fresh and crunchy. Every bite is with crunch. Sauce is filled with light sweet, sour and hint of bitterness to make it a great dish.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (14)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (7)

When you are in classic restaurant, we order back all the classic dishes such as Sweet and Sour Pork.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (8)

Deep Fried Pork Ball is one of their signature dish. Wrap with fresh popiah skin, pack with punch and every bite is filled with meat. Those who love mince pork like me, then would be a great dish. Slightly crisp on the outside too.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (9)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (12)

Was told this is one of their signature vegetable with homemade fish ball. Quite a unique vegetable that is very crunchy and fish ball is bouncy yet not too dense.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (15)

If you remember your classic food, this is one of the dish that MUST ORDER. Stir Fried Shark Fin with Egg. Generous amount of shark fin, egg fried to perfection and filled with wok hei and indeed a classic taste like when I ate it when I was a kid.

To eat this, you must take a spoonful of it and put it on a slice of cabbage. Then eat it together. Whoola. Perfect!

Sek Yuen Restaurant (17)

Stir fried beef with vegetable. Pretty good too.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (18)

We wanted to order duck as it is their legendary signature. It was sold out when we reach at 7pm, we will definitely go back again to try their other dishes. If I remember correctly, our dinner was about RM 55 per head for dishes above.

They have expended and have the non air condition seating area and air condition. We prefer the classic ambiance hence to sit at the non-air condition section.

Indeed one of a great classic dai chow in KL that gives you old classic taste. Went back a few times after CNY dinner last year and my dad loves it.

Shin Kee Beef Noodle is one of the stalls that have been operating in Pudu for very long time. Well known for its classic or traditional noodle soup base and also my ex boss favourite noodle place. If you are planing to dine here on long weekend, be prepare to queue.

Sin Kee Beef Noodle (2)

It is a small compact shop and be prepare to sit and cramp with the rest of diners. Do prepare to share table with strangers.

Sin Kee Beef Noodle (4)

Sin Kee Beef Noodle (5)

In this shop, their offerings is very direct. Soup base or dry noodle that serve along with extra bowl of hot pippin soup along. For noodles, we can choose several types of noodle, from yellow noodle, mihun, kuih teow, and the all important “lou she fun”.

Sin Kee Beef Noodle (6)

in Shin Kee beef noodle, I requested for a mix where it serve along with beef balls, tripe, mince meat and some sliced beef. The beef is cook to perfection where it is thinly slice yet the soup base is just nice. Not too heavy in taste and mild enough for the beef aromatic flavour.  Love the beef balls for its extra chewy bouncy texture.  AS for dry noodle, I usually order Koey Teow and Noodle and stir the whole bowl with minced meat enhance the taste of it,

Sin Kee Beef Noodle (8)

Sin Kee Beef Noodle (7)

Do add in their chili which is da bomb. If you love something which is mild and fragrant in taste, then Sin Kee Beef Noodle might be a good option. If you love Beef noodle with a strong punch of flavour, then head over to opposite coffee shop where you will locate Lai Foong Beef Noodle which is also another famous beef noodle shop in Pudu area. In this shop, a bowl of noodle cost about RM 8 – RM 12.

Right after lunch at Pudu area, we were looking for some desserts to hit on our sweet taste bud after meal. Stopped the car and search for any cafe nearby and shown this Cafe 5(五号咖啡.松饼屋) at Pudu. Google about them and seems like they got quite alot or reviews and decided to check them out.

Cafe 5 (2)

Cafe 5 serve more on waffle or the new version of waffle known as Belgian Liege waffle that the dough went through 20 hours of natural fermentation process, resulting in a brioche like texture on  The sugar pearls are well spread onto the waffle and give a nice mouthful bite.

Cafe 5 (3)

Then only found out that they are actually the owner for the waffle shop in Jaya One as they have actually move to this location.

Cafe 5 (7)

Cafe 5 (8)

PB Bunk @ RM 15. A classic waffle for those who love chocolate, peanut butter and banana. Love their waffle as it is baked to perfection, nice pearl sugar taste and not too hard yet pairs along with PB bunk very well. A sip with their slightly robust coffee is a perfect combo.

A pretty good place for waffle in Pudu area that can be considered a hidden gem.
