After I went to Japan a few years back, I have been constantly trying to find tamagoyaki which is quite similiar to the one at Tsukiji fish market and the only one I manage to find quite near was Ichiro sushi bar inside Isetan, 1 Utama. Good news, is that now SHIN Tamagoyaki is the FIRST Tamagoyaki concept kiosk that focus and serve original tamagoyaki from Japan.

Shin Tamagoyaki (2)

Located just a few steps away from Village grocer in Starling Mall, or right behind Ah Cheng Laksa, you will be greeted with this cute Japanese Kiosk that serve this.

Menu is pretty direct as they focus more on tamagoyaki.

For first timer, and you are skepticle, just try out their Original Tamagoyaki stick @ RM 5.90. Serve pippin hot that is made fresh to ensure the best quality and taste to you. And it sure hit the notes that I had in Tsukiji fish market which is first bite to eat in that give you a little sweetness of it, warm, fluffy and soft. It would be even better if the aftertaste is slightly salty. Well, different stalls have different taste but this is good!

Others which you can give it a try for lunch is their Tamago Mentai don @ RM 13.90. Simple and direct as using Japanese grain, top with fresh spread seaweed mix and tamago on the top with their special sauce. Simple and good.

for quick bites, Chicken karage @ RM 9.90 and fried tamagoyaki @ RM 9.90 for you to take away.

Shin Tamagoyaki (17)

Potato Ham @ RM 11.90 is quite interesting too. Top with mash potato and ham.

Well, would certainly recomend this place if you are a Tamagoyaki lover. Best if you are in a group of 4, do order the block at RM 14.90 as they are slightly cheaper and do see many housewife make a take away in block.

If you happen to be here on this weekend 10th of March, they are having their grand launching and running a promotion of Buy 1 Free 1.

Quite like their choice of sandwich as they prepare everything from fresh including their bread. There are 3 choice to choose from and one of a favourite is their olive bread.

Mango and Smoked Salmon sandwich @ RM13.90 which is kinda a good bargain. Depending on the choice of bread that you are choosing, it is airy and light for the bread and the choices of sauce is kinda intresting to go along such as wasabi mayo and mango ingredient in it. Nevertheless, it turns out to be good.  which was light and refreshing with a hint of wasabi mayo.

  1. Detox Agent : Bloat Beater @ RM 9.90 (Lemon, Pineapple, ginger & Apple) indeed a powerful drink
  2. Energizing Smoothies  : Avocado Dream @ RM 10.90 (XL) – Avocado, Banana, Mango, Low-fat milk & low fat vanilla ice cream
  3. Tropical Sunshine @ RM 8.90 (M) – Mango, Banana, Low-fat milk & low fat vanilla ice cream

They also recently launch their Milky Treatz series as to elevate their choices of juices by providing variety to customers. Tried their Jackfruit Jive @ RM 11.50 (M size only) and turns out to be pretty good. Solid taste of jackfruit and slightly milky to my liking.

Keen to try some new places and Bonfire Restaurant & Bar was one of the latest place we hit on. One of the reason choosing this restaurant is also they cook using wood fire which is something quite interesting.

Bon Fire (3)

Read from some where, that  it is run by Damansara Uptown’s Lou Shang Bar.

While you are waiting for your mains, you will be serve with their hot bread and special home made butter. Indeed their home made butter is awesome. To refill cost you RM 3.

Since there are two of us and instead of ordering ala carte, we chose their set – Bon Fire Platter with a choice of 2 meats  @ RM 120. First the promotion do not make sense at all as it is as good as ordering ala carte. On certain combo you do not save money yet you are short change. Best of all, I wanted to order waygu steak and fish, was told that they do not have stock and changing it to sirloin. Too my dissapointment, we just hit for that as it was my friend’s birthday too.

Bon Fire (10)

Whole Red Snapper grilled over wood fire with sweet basil and coconut Beurre blanc @ RM 58. Read a good review on this dish and no doubt that it is pretty good. Fragrant and fresh fish as it is with a little hint of the aroma of salt little dried orange and spread of their sesasoning. Coconut beurre blanc do enhance the taste of the fish with a little milky end. Interesting indeed.

Bon Fire (11)

Next with no pricing is this sirloin that was cook to medium (we ask for medium rare – they do not have it as only medium and above option was available), then we are not too sure how the chef work then. Meat was rather disappointing where it is dry, lack of seasoning and the green beans dressing on the plate was a let down. We only ate half and the mood was not there anymore. This is the first time we did not finish a steak!

Bon Fire (12)

Bon Fire (13)

Coffee was decent.

Food wise, they have alot to improve on. I am not too sure about others.
