To begin with, food was never  100% perfect. After a a lot of buzz about this Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice at Pudu, KL from a lot of FB pages few years back that they are using Charcoal. They have been gaining its momentum. It is also a place that had been selling for the past 40 years and finally I make my way there after also they won an award of Michelin Bib Gourmand for its food consistency.

I was told that this place do serve nostalgic taste to many people and also to many of them do not like it. As always, I went over with an open mind. To me, any stalls that use Charcoal fire certainly a win for me. However it gets tricky if the person knows how to maintain and control the fire.

chicken rice in klclaypot chicken rice I find that their cooking method is quite unique or I have never seen before. A charcoal Claypot chicken rice goes into double cooking method. Burnt from bottom then finish off with charchaol heat on the top. Then only I realise no wonder the waiting time is there. Easily a pot will take 10-15 minutes to cook base on this.

To me, a Claypot Chicken rice must have Salted fish, without it, its kinda lack a big flavour profile for me. I spread my salted fish into crumbs and mix it evenly in the pot.. After eating the first bite only understand why its nostalgic to a few people. Now I am being added into the nostalgic taste.DSC02151 Soy sauce is a perfect kind for me that gives a nice sweet salty finish that have similar taste those in Penang, hint of salted fish in each bite, is just perfect Chicken is cooked to perfection, soft tender and juicy, with lap cheong is just nice.

Their signature Pig Pepper soup and Sunday Lotus soup is not to be miss. Spot on satisfying soup

I went back again second time to give it a try within 2 weeks. Indeed taste is still good! Certainly one of a claypot chicken rice place for me as it hits all my personal notes. this is the founder of the shop that ensure its consistency and her story of hardship is certainly inspiring.

Meet the Penang legendary street burger at Hillside Uncle’s Burger located at Tanjung Tokong, Penang. This is one of a burger stall I have been eating since high school till now. One of a rare gem in Penang street food that you will find the only Chinese burger Stall in the island (correct me if I am wrong). Or Ramlee burger, Chinese version.

Hillside Uncle's Burger

The old couple have been running the stall easily more than 20 years.  Of course due to inflation price certainly increase and during this after pandemic period, the business is still brisk like the usual. Been ages since last had and I think easily the last I had was 15 years ago. Now, training his son up to take up spot. Certainly there is taste diff but practice makes perfect.

Be prepare to queue for 45 mins to 90 mins for a pippin hot burger. Usually I will buy to eat at the food court or eat at the playground. Then walk over to the Chinese shop next to 7-11 to grab a can of beer. Certainly Satisfying.

Hillside Uncle's Burger menu

Of course I will be ordering, Beef, Cheese and Egg @ RM 9

Hillside Uncle's Burger (5)

As the couple age, now they are pasing the baton to their son. Early session will be son training in progress to take over. When it hit easily after 4.30pm – 5pm the uncle will be in action. Do prepare to see his fast action as orders are pilling up.

penang ramlee burger

Here is my juicy beef burger. Miss the flavors although there is the diff from his dad and son. Each bite is with satisfaction. Mix sourish, mild red onion spicy with their own special sauce , with hint of some sweetness, certainly hit the mark.

Covid-19 indieed is a worldwide pandemic. It had make alot of business closed down. However, it is also a test for many business owners out there. I called it a force transition of business strategy. In Malaysian landscape also facing its own challenges. Especially retail and F&B. The peeps from Urban Daybreak could not operate on their usual cafe hence during this MCO they have created a new brand known as Jeremy’s Chicks in their current URban Daybreak outlet selling Chicken Rice.

One of the famous street food drink or common street dessert that we constantly enjoy is Cendol. As over the years some maintain on a classic note of the dessert yet some decided to evolve it yet Lipao Cendol at Jalan Hang Kasturi evolve the packaging for the convinience of drinkers.

It was on weekdays and just right after Happy Hour with friends and they insisted me to have supper with them that I must try out this burger stall operate by this young chap. I would regard the Burg in Uptown Damansara is one of the best street gourmet burger that I come across. Operating in a yard of close kopitiam during night, brighten up with fairies light, and if you drive slightly fast, I am pretty sure you going to miss out this stall.

The Burg (1)

a style by its own and it is darn good after trying it out. Half the price of gourmet burger chain and taste quite good. Currently only 4 types of burger are available.

  1. Salted Egg
  2. Roasted Sesame
  3. Japanese curry
  4. Buttermilk

the owner only use fresh chicken meat at the moment.

The Burg (2)

The Burg (3)

After I see the menu, I directly hit on the Salted Egg Burger @ RM 9. Slap with a slab of fresh fried chicken thigh. Fried to perfection that the chicken is crispy, juicy and moist. Salted Egg sauce that top on top is spot on. Just the right amount, did not over power the rest of the burger taste. Sauce is creamy, well balance of light salted taste and salted egg is not too strong yet a nice aroma in da mouth.

The Burg (4)

My the other new friend, he ordered his favourite Buttermilk. If you like something cremier then this one is good. slightly creamy with hint of nice sweet taste.

The Burg (5)

The Burg (6)

Then my friend requested some sauce for me to try. The tomyum sauce, is gooooood! will try out his Tomyum base next round.

The Burg (7)

the burg

For gourmet street burger, currently this sits top spot. Nice pricing and good. Definately a recommended burger place also one of the best burger in PJ. Not your typical Ramlee Burger place.
