It was an interesting weekend and indeed an eye opener for me. I always thought that our urban water is from nearby dam. Some are from river. Therefore there is a need to start preserving our river. SPARK Foundation x W.A.T.E.R Project his a combination of few parties that work closely together by working towards urban water resources conservation and heightened the awareness. Not only ensuring that water is managed sustainably but also educating the local communities as well as investing in strategic rehabilitation initiatives.

What is the W.A.T.E.R Project?

The W.A.T.E.R Project is a collaboration between SPARK Foundation and the Global Environment Centre, a non-profit organisation and government agencies which aims to raise awareness on the importance of river and water conservation through community-based programmes.

Water conservation is critical, which we have to be responsible and do our part for the environment as well. I was at the Pusat Informasi and Pengairan dan Saliran last weekend, where the Water Stewardship Agenda 2018 by SPARK Foundation kickstarted their 3rd Phase. It is in collaboration with W.A.T.E.R Project (Working Actively Through Education and Rehabilitation), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and Global Environment Centre.

I have been expose to green community project 6 years ago from my ex-company that created out sustainability living in outskirt area. It is good that now they are projects and initiative that the local council is supporting with discounts on your property.

Now, they have actually built a rainwater harvesting system at Block 1, Desa Mentari in Petaling Jaya, which is located within one of its project sites, Sungai Penchala. The system is capable of harvesting an estimate of one million litres of rainwater annually and will benefit over 1,800 residents in the area by supplying additional water supply that is suitable for general use such as cleaning, landscaping and irrigation.
